Chapter 35: Ace Reporter and a Moral Compass

The world of journalism, Adam was quickly learning, was almost as cutthroat as the superhero world. And at the center of it all was Snapper Carr, Kara's gruff, no-nonsense editor, who seemed to have a perpetual scowl and a disdain for anything that wasn't "just the facts." Adam found him endlessly amusing. "He's like a grumpy cat, but with a journalism degree. And probably less fur. And a lot more yelling."

Kara was investigating a new technology, a revolutionary medical device that promised to cure all ills, but Adam knew its true, dangerous side effects. It was a moral minefield, and Kara was walking right into it, determined to uncover the truth, even if it meant confronting her former mentor.

Adam found Kara looking frustrated, staring at a stack of research papers. "So, another day, another morally ambiguous scientific breakthrough, huh?" Adam quipped, leaning against her desk. "And Snapper's giving you grief? Shocking. I'm sure he's just trying to make you a better journalist. Or, you know, just enjoys yelling. It's a fine line."

Kara sighed. "He just doesn't understand, Adam. This technology… it's dangerous. But everyone wants to believe it's a miracle. And Snapper just wants the story, not the truth."

Adam nodded. "Yeah, well, the truth is messy, Kara. And sometimes, it's inconvenient. But that doesn't make it any less important. You're an ace reporter, Kara. You have a moral compass that points true north. Don't let anyone, not even a grumpy editor, make you doubt that. You have a responsibility to tell the truth, even when it's hard. Especially when it's hard." He paused, then continued, his voice low. "And about this technology… if it's too good to be true, it usually is. And sometimes, the real danger isn't the technology itself, but the people who created it. Or the ones who are trying to hide its flaws."

Adam subtly helped Kara in her investigation. He "accidentally" left a news article open on her desk about a past medical scandal involving a similar "miracle cure," or "speculated" about the financial backers of the new technology, hinting at their less-than-ethical pasts.

"You know," Adam mused to Kara, pointing at a complex diagram of the new tech. "I was watching this documentary about corporate greed. And sometimes, these revolutionary technologies have a hidden flaw. Like, a specific frequency that causes cellular degradation. Or a side effect that only manifests after prolonged exposure. It's like, they're so busy making money, they forget about the 'do no harm' part. Or the 'don't accidentally kill people' part. Whichever comes first."

Kara looked at him, her eyes widening. "Cellular degradation? Hidden side effects? You think…?"

"Hey, I just watch the documentaries," Adam said with a shrug. "But when you're dealing with something that promises everything, you look for the fine print. And the fine print is usually where the devil hides. Now go get 'em, ace reporter. And try not to get fired. Cat Grant would be very disappointed."

Kara and Adam's professional and personal partnership is fully solidified. He was her sounding board, her moral compass, the one person who could offer both cynical humor and unwavering support. She relied on his insights, his ability to see the hidden dangers, and his constant encouragement to always do what was right.

"He's not just a friend," Kara thought, watching Adam playfully mimic Snapper Carr's scowl. "He's my partner. In everything. And he always helps me find my way."
