As Homelander In Multiverse

Chapter 139: Chapter 138: Running into Harley Quinn

Starlight was gone.

Stormfront adjusted her baseball cap low over her face and exited the library through a side door, slipping into an unassuming ice cream truck. Behind the wheel, dressed in a striped delivery uniform, was the bearded Butcher, scrolling through his phone.

"What are you looking at?" Stormfront leaned over, sneaking a glance.

"Just finished chatting with your darling Annie," Butcher replied, looking up with a smirk. "So, did she wet herself out of fear?"

Stormfront chuckled. "She's the bravest girl I've ever met."

"I bet she'll snatch some Compound V for us," Butcher said casually.

"I'm starting to like her."

Butcher snorted. "She can't satisfy you, so what's the point?"

Stormfront's gaze turned icy. "You're insane. Always looking for ways to die, aren't you?"

"Still haven't told me what you're watching," she added.

Butcher tilted the screen toward her. "You're acting like a paranoid wife worried about her husband cheating."

Stormfront burst out laughing. "Don't worry, I'd never fall for you." Then her eyes narrowed as she focused on the phone screen.

"Isn't that your good friend?" she asked. "Did they break out?"

The news report on Butcher's screen detailed how Frenchie and Mother's Milk had recently escaped custody—helped by none other than a bear-like figure who intercepted a prison bus.

"Well, isn't that convenient," Stormfront mused. "You could go fetch them. The more friends, the merrier."

Butcher stashed his phone. "Not happening."

Stormfront wasn't surprised. "At least you're self-aware. They went to prison because of you, and you haven't even acknowledged it."

"I'm doing this for their sake," Butcher replied, starting the truck. "See? They broke out just fine on their own. Besides, how do I know this isn't some Seven scheme? Maybe I go looking for those two idiots, and Homelander's waiting to say 'hello.'"

Stormfront shrugged. "I would've disagreed with you before. But now?"

Butcher simply smiled, turned on some music, and drove off.

On the same day, Homelander led Kimiko into a Chinatown apartment building and unlocked a room on the second floor.

"This will be your new place," he said, tossing her the keys.

Kimiko had been kept hidden these past few days, undergoing a complete transformation under Homelander's orders. Her hair was cut short, and her new clothes made her look like a quiet college student.

"You have one job," Homelander said, pulling out a photo and handing it to her. "Protect the person in this picture. I don't want her harmed. Not even a scratch."

"If you do that," he added, "I'll find your brother for you."

Kimiko studied the photograph. It was of an Asian girl wearing sunglasses and holding a cane for the visually impaired. She signed hesitantly, "This girl… she's blind?"

"Yes." Homelander smiled, pointing at the ceiling. "She lives upstairs. If anything happens up there, you'll know, right?"

Kimiko nodded.

"Good. Now, let's visit her workplace."

A short while later, they stood across the street from a music shop. Homelander pointed through the window, where Lin Aida was tuning a piano.

"See her? That's your target," he said. "Protect her around the clock, but don't let her notice. And make sure her colleagues don't catch on, either."

Kimiko signed, "No problem. But when will you find my brother?"

Homelander smiled. "I can't give you an exact time. How about this? Within a year, I'll find him. If not, you're free to leave—or demand something else from me."

Kimiko's eyes narrowed. "Deal?"

"Deal."

After settling Kimiko in, Homelander returned to his apartment and accessed the in-game shop, specifically the rune section.

[Rune: Crimson Bands of Cyttorak]

Grants the ability to use corresponding magic with a strong control effect.

Note: Only three runes can be equipped simultaneously.

Cost: 20 Proficiency Essences.

Homelander exchanged the essences, and with a flash of light, a nondescript, prism-like crystal appeared in his hand. It glowed faintly with red streaks.

Before he could figure out how to equip it, the crystal dissolved, merging seamlessly into his palm. Information flooded his mind. Homelander extended a hand toward the coat rack near the door.

Scarlet energy bands, etched with arcane symbols, surged forward and wrapped around the rack.

"Perfect," he murmured. "Now I've got a control-type skill."

He glanced at his Traveler's Ring.

"Fifteen Dim Essence left. Six Proficiency Essence remaining. More than enough to open a multiverse portal."

Homelander had chosen to exchange for the rune in preparation for a trip to the multiverse. With no immediate disasters requiring his attention, he was running low on resources and saw an opportunity to restock.

Spending 5 Dim Essence, he opted for a random multiverse jump. Specifying a world required a Proficiency Essence, but he had tested this before. The Marvel Universe was still on cooldown, so he had no choice but to let the ring decide.

Blue light flared, engulfing him in a swirl of black-and-blue flames.

---

In an instant, Homelander found himself in a new reality, greeted by the shrill voice of a woman.

He had landed in a cage, surrounded by armed guards. Behind him, the gate was locked.

The guards, clearly stunned by his sudden appearance, gawked at him.

"What the hell?"

"Where did this guy come from?"

"Identify yourself! Name, now!"

One guard raised his weapon.

Homelander's eyes narrowed, and the man froze in terror. A second later, he turned his gun on himself and pulled the trigger.

Mind Invasion.

Homelander smirked, turning his attention to the woman in the cage with him—a platinum blonde beauty with chaotic tattoos running up her legs and face.

The retina display in his vision lit up.

[You've entered the DC Universe via the Traveler's Ring.]

[Timer started. Daily cost: 1 Dim Essence. Higher-grade essences will be deducted if resources run out.]

[Multiverse Event Activated: Suicide Squad.]

Homelander's eyes lingered on the woman. Harley Quinn.

Harley circled him like a predator. "Well, well, aren't you a magician? Can you pull a disappearing act and take me with you?"

She leaned in, sticking out her tongue to lick his face.

Homelander shoved her back, grinning. "Lady, you need a bath."

She sniffed her arm and shrugged. "Doesn't smell bad to me."

Outside the cage, the guards yelled, "Hands where we can see them, or we'll shoot!"

Harley leaned behind Homelander, laughing. "Go ahead! Shoot us both! I'd love to see Puddin' carve you up later."

With a faint pop, Homelander teleported out of the cage, leaving Harley blinking in surprise.

"Well, I'll be damned," she chuckled. "He really is a magician."
