Chapter 141: Chapter 139: Encouraging Superman
"Hurry, follow up and set up the defensive positions!"
"Can anyone tell me what's happening inside right now?!"
Outside the White House, tanks and armored vehicles surrounded the building in layers.
Above, two fighter jets roared through the sky.
As the troops awaited orders, a sudden roar erupted from within the White House.
A golden stream of light shot diagonally upward from inside the building, propelling a figure into the sky.
Moments later, the stream of light expanded and exploded, unleashing a ferocious wave of flames that surged outward like a tidal wave from the White House.
The entire building was leveled in the explosion, and large chunks of stone flew overhead like cannonballs, whizzing past soldiers and vehicles.
The explosion and smoke made the soldiers feel as if they had been thrust into a battlefield, and most of them ducked to the ground.
When the explosion subsided, they slowly raised their heads, clutching their helmets as they looked up.
The White House was nearly obliterated, with only charred, broken walls remaining where the once-majestic building had stood.
Amid the inferno raging in the ruins, a figure ascended into the sky.
The red cape gleamed even more vividly under the firelight, while the black suit reflected a metallic sheen.
The blond-haired, blue-eyed man flew slowly out of the shattered structure, his gaze indifferent as he surveyed the surroundings.
Then, beams of light shot from his eyes, targeting the troops below.
Suddenly, a figure appeared in front of the troops—it was Wonder Woman, Diana, who had just been blasted away by Homelander's heat vision!
Diana raised her round shield to block the golden beams but was still pushed back step by step.
She stabbed her Godkiller sword into the ground and pulled the Lasso of Truth from her waist.
She twirled the golden-glowing lasso, hurling it at Homelander's foot, ensnaring him before swinging him away forcefully.
Retrieving her lasso and gripping her sword once more, Diana shouted to the troops behind her, "Leave this place! He's not someone you can fight!"
A stiff-faced officer protested, "Why should we follow your orders?"
Diana ignored him, leaping into the air with a loud cry, covering hundreds of meters in an instant.
She thrust her sword at Homelander in mid-air.
Homelander chuckled and suddenly turned intangible, causing Wonder Woman to pass through him.
As he solidified again, Homelander pointed at Diana, and glowing red chains inscribed with magical runes coiled toward her.
The "Crimson Bands of Cyttorak" bound Wonder Woman tightly.
Gripping the chains, Homelander spun Diana around several times before hurling her far away.
She soared off into the distance, disappearing into a speck.
Moments later, in the direction where she'd flown, the upper windows of a skyscraper shattered entirely.
Shards of glass refracted sunlight, falling like a glittering rain.
Witnessing this, the earlier officer immediately shouted, "Retreat!"
"Retreat!"
At this moment, Batman's voice rose from below Homelander: "I don't understand why you're so intent on disturbing Superman."
"In his current state, his seclusion benefits everyone."
Homelander glanced at Batman below him and said, "No, my friend."
"If he hides away and refuses to see anyone, it sends the wrong signal to certain entities."
Batman was about to ask what entities he meant when he felt the ground tremble, as if a herd of mammoths was charging.
Bruce turned to see dust rising in the distance. Within the cloud, Diana shot forth like a cannonball, swinging the Godkiller sword at the mysterious man in mid-air.
Homelander remained motionless but turned intangible again like a ghost, letting Diana pass through him once more.
Diana landed, spun around, and shouted, "Get out of the way!"
Bruce wisely used his grappling gun to pull himself out of the area.
Behind him, Wonder Woman let out a fierce cry, clashing her indestructible bracelets together. A resonant hum echoed, distorting the space ahead like a folded oil painting.
The vibrations destroyed everything at an astonishing speed.
But as Diana unleashed this shockwave, powerful enough to repel Doomsday, Homelander vanished like smoke, reappearing behind her.
He had the leisure to sniff her hair before floating back to avoid her retaliatory sword slash.
Diana was about to charge again when Bruce called out, "Miss Prince, wait."
"I have some questions for him."
Diana glanced at Batman and reluctantly held her position, still adopting a combat stance like a tigress ready to pounce.
Homelander's gaze roved unabashedly over Diana, lingering particularly on her long legs, which epitomized athletic beauty.
"Sir, who exactly are these entities you mentioned?"
Finally tearing his gaze away from Diana's legs, Homelander smiled faintly and pointed to the sky.
"Here's a hint: Mother Boxes, Apokolips, Darkseid."
Batman looked puzzled.
Diana froze for a moment before exclaiming, "How do you know this?!"
Homelander, of course, didn't answer, throwing her a playful "guess" look.
Seeing Homelander's reluctance, Batman turned to Diana.
Diana briefly explained, "Darkseid is the ruler of Apokolips, a dark lord, and a tyrant."
"He conquers planet after planet with his armies. In ancient times, he came to Earth."
"He brought with him something called 'Mother Boxes.'"
"When three Mother Boxes unite, they form the Unity, granting various powers."
"Knowledge projection, energy transfer, gravity manipulation, matter control—among other abilities."
"In that distant era, Darkseid arrived on Earth. My people, the other inhabitants of this planet—humans, Atlanteans—even gods and cosmic protectors joined forces."
"Together, they drove Darkseid away, though at great cost."
"Afterward, the three Mother Boxes remained on Earth. One was kept by my people, another by the Atlanteans, and the third entrusted to humanity."
Pausing, Diana turned to Homelander.
"Are you saying that if Superman hides, Darkseid will think Earth is defenseless and return?"
Homelander tapped his temple. "I studied the Kryptonian ship. It contained fascinating information."
"One piece of information indicated that the Mother Boxes monitor Earth. If they detect no threats to Darkseid, they signal Apokolips."
"And then, someone will arrive."
"So, I believe Superman must act."
Batman finally pieced things together. "That's what this is about."
He added, "But Superman has lost his resolve."
"Then restore it," Homelander said with a smile, arms crossed. "Perhaps by reviving his lover?"
Bruce looked incredulous. "Our technology can't achieve that."
Diana closed her eyes. "But the Mother Boxes can."
"They can alter life parameters. Think of them as god-level supercomputers."
"They can rewrite reality and resurrect the dead."
Exactly.
To motivate Superman, they needed the Mother Boxes.
This was Homelander's true goal—to access the ultimate cheat of the DC Universe: the Mother Boxes!
Smirking, Homelander's plan crystallized. Whether Superman's revival disrupted the "Justice League" plotline didn't matter to him.
As long as he obtained the Mother Boxes, his objective was complete.
Diana, however, sternly objected, "No."
"If we use the Mother Boxes, how do we know we won't trigger them and summon Darkseid?"
"And I doubt my people would willingly hand one over."
Homelander chuckled. "First, the Mother Boxes are already being used by humans."
"Bruce Wayne should've seen the files."
"Someone has already used a Mother Box to reconstruct his son's body into a cyborg."
Batman flinched, then exclaimed, "I did see that in Lex's metahuman files."
Homelander nodded before addressing Diana. "Second, even if we don't use them, Darkseid will come eventually."
"His forces will reach this planet. Do you think he's forgotten what he left behind on Earth?"
"When that happens, and we have no one to oppose him, what could be worse?"
"I can't think of anything."
Batman looked at Diana. "He has a point. We can't afford to be unprepared, Miss Prince."
"Call me Diana," she replied before turning to Homelander. "And you? What should we call you?"
"John."
"Then, John, the search for the Mother Boxes and Superman's revival is up to you two."
With that, Homelander ascended into the air and flew off, vanishing from their sight.
Batman and Diana exchanged a glance.
"I'll find Superman," Diana said. "You track the human-used Mother Box."
Bruce nodded in agreement before both departed the White House in their own ways.
Once the trio had left, the army returned to survey the ruins of the White House, stunned and regretful.
They were used to turning others' homes into rubble, but seeing their own reduced to ruins was a first.

Bel Reve Asylum.
In the rain, Amanda Waller approached the gates under an umbrella.
"Welcome to Belle Reve, ma'am. How are you?" the asylum director greeted with a sycophantic smile.
