At the Beginning, the Villain Is Secretly Loved by the Protagonist’s Mother

Chapter 21:

Chapter 21: Advanced Medical Skills

A few minutes later, Lin Keqing opened the door.

“Mr. Wang, why are you here so late today?” she asked casually, pretending the earlier awkward moment hadn’t happened.

“I was practicing all morning and lost track of time,” Wang Zhenxing replied nonchalantly. Then, as if realizing something, he added, “But do I need to report my schedule to you?”

As he spoke, he walked to his chair and sat down.

“That’s not what I meant. I was just concerned about you,” Lin Keqing quickly explained, waving her hands nervously. Her voice was soft, almost like a whisper.

Wang Zhenxing’s sharp hearing caught her words, but he chose not to comment.

On his desk lay the day’s schedule, meticulously prepared by Lin Keqing. It was concise: a meeting in the morning, another in the afternoon, and attendance at the Qingling Charity Summit in the evening.

Skipping over the company meetings, Wang Zhenxing focused on the charity summit. As memories surfaced, he recalled that he had initiated the event two months ago. The summit, organized by several Qingling government departments, was something the “original” version of him—a charity enthusiast—had set in motion before Wang Zhenxing’s transmigration into this life.

At first, he considered skipping it but quickly abandoned the idea. Not attending would harm his reputation and ruin his goodwill with the government, something he couldn’t afford.

“You’re good at writing, aren’t you? I need a speech for the charity summit—800 words. Write one for me,” he instructed Lin Keqing.

“Yes, but… I’m not sure I can write it well,” Lin Keqing said hesitantly.

“Just write it first. If it’s bad, I’ll help you revise it. But if it’s really bad, you’ll be punished,” Wang Zhenxing said firmly.

“Punished?” Lin Keqing frowned, looking defeated.

He didn’t respond, merely gazing at her with a steady, silent look.

“Understood! I’ll get started right away!” she replied instinctively, hurrying to her cubicle to work.

As Lin Keqing left, Wang Zhenxing rubbed his temples, feeling slightly melancholic. Charity always required money, and as the main sponsor, he would need to dig deep into his pockets.

A few years ago, when the company was thriving, these expenses were manageable and even helped bolster his public image. But Zhenxing Group’s declining profits in recent years made such contributions feel burdensome.

Should I try reasoning with that woman, Han Mei? Wang Zhenxing thought grimly.

Han Mei, the wealthiest woman in Qingling, was also the mother of the rich second-generation heir Qin Yi had offended. Her suppression of his company was a thorn in his side.

As the organizer of the summit, the government had invited all the prominent business figures in Qingling. Han Mei would undoubtedly attend, which meant Wang Zhenxing would have to face her.

The thought of Han Mei filled him with frustration.

If she hadn’t been suppressing him, he’d have made so much more this year. He wouldn’t be stuck driving just a Bentley or living in a mansion without a pool!

The bitterness gnawed at him. Perhaps he couldn’t confront her directly, but could he… sacrifice his appearance to win her over?

Pushing these thoughts aside, Wang Zhenxing opened the system interface to review his recent gains.

His attention focused on the counterattack points, which could be exchanged for items in the system mall.

What can 1,700 points get me? he wondered, scrolling through the options.

Available Items in the System Mall]

Dragon Tiger Pill – 1000 points

Clear Eye – 1100 points

Advanced Medical Skills – 1500 points

Curious, Wang Zhenxing examined the first item.

[Dragon Tiger Pill: Enhances physical strength and significantly improves kidney capacity.]

Wang Zhenxing’s eyes lit up momentarily before dismissing it. While the benefits were intriguing, it wasn’t an immediate need—especially since his current health and stamina were more than adequate.

The next option, Clear Eye, was also tempting. Clairvoyance had endless possibilities: making money through gambling or uncovering secrets. But after some deliberation, Wang Zhenxing decided against it, opting instead for Advanced Medical Skills.

In terms of utility, advanced medical skills offered far more. Beyond saving lives, such abilities were often exclusive to protagonists and could prove invaluable in various situations.

Spending 1,500 counterattack points, Wang Zhenxing acquired the skill. Immediately, an influx of complex medical knowledge flooded his mind. He took a moment to digest and fully comprehend it.

An hour later, Lin Keqing returned with the draft of the speech.

“Mr. Wang, I’ve finished writing the speech. Please review it,” she said, placing the neatly written manuscript on his desk.

Wang Zhenxing skimmed through it and quickly spotted several issues.

Without a word, he picked up a pen and circled the problematic sections. “Rewrite these parts,” he instructed curtly.

“Yes,” Lin Keqing nodded, carefully picking up the manuscript. Yet she remained standing, hesitating.

“Why aren’t you leaving?” Wang Zhenxing asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Didn’t you say there would be a punishment if the writing wasn’t good?” she reminded him, her expression cautious.

Wang Zhenxing was momentarily taken aback. He hadn’t planned to punish her, especially since he noticed she seemed fatigued. But her willingness to bring it up made him rethink.

Goodness, does she actually have Stockholm Syndrome? If so, I can’t go too easy on her in the future.

“Ten push-ups,” he said casually.

“Push-ups?” Lin Keqing blinked in surprise. It wasn’t the kind of punishment she had anticipated.

“Too easy? I can make it harder,” he offered, deadpan.

“No, no! I’ll do it right now!” she exclaimed, immediately dropping to the floor.

Thanks to her yoga practice in college, Lin Keqing completed ten standard push-ups effortlessly, her form impeccable.

Wang Zhenxing watched, nodding to himself.

Her fitness was impressive. He would have to keep her on her toes.
