lunch break.
Her smartphone, which was on silent mode, began to vibrate and Yui took it out of her pocket.
[Would you like to eat with me?]
Thinking it was a LINE message from Yu, I checked and saw that it was from Takuya, inviting me to lunch.
Up until now, Yui had accepted Takuya's invitations as long as she had no other business with him. However, right now, Yui was not happy about his invitations.
I glanced over at Takuya without looking unnatural and he was staring at his smartphone, apparently waiting for a reply.
"..."
Although I felt sorry, I simply replied, "Sorry, I have plans to eat with a friend," and called a friend who was nearby, and we decided to eat together.
From the corner of my eye, I saw Takuya looking lonely as he headed out of the classroom, presumably to join a friend in another class.
(By the way, where did Someya-kun go?)
I started eating lunch with my friends, thinking that Yu and Takuya were usually eating together at times like this.
after school.
Yui was suddenly curious about Takuya while he was doing club activities and came to the soccer field.
Boys of all sizes and heights from the same high school are running around aiming for a soccer ball. They are probably practicing for a red vs. white game or some other match.
Even if you don't know the rules of soccer very well, you can understand that much by watching.
Yui had never come to watch a game before. Although she liked Takuya playing soccer, she had no interest in soccer itself, and she didn't want rumors to spread that she might be dating someone.
This is the first time I've seen Takuya participating in club activities.
Generally, sports clubs are retired by third-year students around summer vacation. The soccer club is also retired by third-year students, but there are still some students who have already been accepted to university through sports recommendations or who have already decided on the company they will be joining who continue to participate in club activities.
Among them all, Takuya stood out. Of course, this was because the third-years who were participating were leaving soon and were handing the lead role over to the second-years who would become the faces of the soccer club from now on.
But even taking that into account, it felt like Takuya stood out.
And gradually I realise it's not just my imagination.
There were girls watching the soccer field just like her. Unlike Yui, who tried not to stand out, they were cheering at every move Takuya made.
(Takkun is really popular after all...)
Yui feels as if the experience is somehow unrelated to her, thinking that she must have felt the same way just a short time ago.
That didn't change even when Takuya was waving happily at the female students like it was professional fan service. I didn't feel jealous.
"..."
Ten minutes later.
After the game, Takuya and the others gather together on the bench.
Meanwhile, a female student who seemed to be the manager ran up to Takuya with a towel and a plastic bottle.
(Ah, that girl likes Takkun...)
He was certainly the most noticeable, but of course practice wouldn't be effective if Takuya was the only one doing well. There were students on the other team who were competing well, but the manager didn't pay them any attention and just ran over to Takuya.
And the other members of the club didn't make fun of it or ridicule it, which is proof that this kind of thing had been sent on a daily basis.
She was a girl with the looks to be able to do such things as a matter of course. Compared to actress Yui, she wasn't particularly good looking, but she was still a high-level high school girl.
Takuya doesn't seem completely opposed to the girl looking at him with a mixture of admiration and a faint crush.
"...What is it, Takkun? You're fine without me..."
Regardless of whether she really wanted to do so or not, from Yui's perspective it just looked like she was keeping her manager on.
Besides Yui herself, no one knows that he is dating her. In other words, no one will blame him for acting like he is keeping her, and he doesn't have to worry about anyone saying anything if he starts dating the manager's girl right after breaking up with Yui.
"...Ah."
I didn't come here with any particular purpose in mind. But thinking back on it now, I think I may have wanted to see even the slightest bit of good and cool about Takuya, and rekindle the flame of my love for him that had died down without me realising.
But rather than growing, the consequences are now on the verge of being extinguished...or perhaps they have disappeared altogether.
"You idiot."
Yui muttered to herself and headed home, leaving Takuya flirting with the manager.
