Chapter 160: Dealing With Patients

POV Tsunade

Today was the day for that playboy to come get healed. I was not that happy about this as his records made me unimpressed. I was asked to try to avoid hurting him too badly if he pushed his luck. Once Stark arrived I noticed something a bit surprising. He looked a bit ill. If I had to guess the Palladium Poisoning has started causing problems. I was a bit surprised because I figured he would have made the improved Arc Reactor.

Tsunade: "Come have a seat. I will do some tests to see what is wrong."

Tony: "Wow, you are beautiful."

Tsunade: "I would be careful what you say. I am sure you have been warned but I will say right now that if you get handsy I will remove that offending limb. Then I will heal the stump so that even prosthetics won't work."

Stark starts sweating after I threaten him as he can tell I am not exaggerating.

Tony: "Gulp. Got it no touching and I will keep my comments to myself."

I ignore him and start my tests, which I find odd.

Tsunade: "You are suffering from extensive Palladium Poisoning. From what I have been told and read you haven't had the Arc Reactor for more than 6 months at this point. What have you been doing that has caused so much damage?"

Tony: "Well I might have been using the Arc Reactor for more hero work. And also I have been using it for unusual things."

I raise an eyebrow at that last statement.

Tony: "Cough. Well, I had to power some things roundaboutly, and my first 2 tries caused damage to the Arc Reactor that I didn't realize until later."

Tsunade: "I won't pry but we will need to operate today as the poisoning is sitting at an alarming 24%. I can't trust you to not mess your body up more before I heal it."

Tony: "Thank you for your assistance. Whatever the price I will try to repay it."

Tsunade: "Scoff. You? Last I heard your company is barely meeting ends meet. No, you will get the bill later but now that my payment is proportional to the patient's wealth. Now follow me to the operating room."

2 Hours Later...

I wiped the sweat from my brow as I finished the surgery. I had to admit I enjoyed such a unique case. His body was in shambles but not in the way I usually see. His liver showed signs of damage from excessive drinking. Shrapnel was found in places other than his chest. The Blood Toxicity was annoying but not harder than dealing with Chiyo's poisons. I also found some old injuries that didn't heal properly that needed to be corrected. Lastly, there was an odd discovery of poison, completely unrelated to Palladium. Overall, it was a complete success.

Tony: "Ugh, is it over already?"

Tsunade: "Good afternoon Mr. Stark. Here is a list of things I fixed. I want to point out point 5."

He looks at point 5 and frowns.

Tsunade: "I found traces of poison in your system. Not lethal amounts but clearly you have been being poisoned for a month or more at this point. The poison is harmless in small doses but the body doesn't process it so it builds up over time. The more that it builds up the worse you will feel. I have seen a lot of poisons so I can confidently say it is man-made. I suggest getting new staff or finding people that won't betray you."

Tony: "Do you know how I might have been poisoned?"

Tsunade: "Most likely food. With a lower chance of drinks. Aerosolizing it would be obvious as it would have a slightly bitter taste and it is weakened when dispersed by air. I would have found traces of injections if it was that. I haven't found any signs that you absorbed it through your skin. As such food or drink is the most likely. I would look at the chefs first and then those who deliver the food."

Tony: "If you didn't remove it how long would it take for me to die from it?"

Tsunade: "3 Months, if you didn't try to treat it. As long as you caught it by the end of the second month you would be able to reverse it without too much damage. Past that you would need the Detox Machine from LexCorp or my assistance if it progressed to the final stage."

Tony: "Thank you for healing me. It seems I have to do some more investigation and clean house. Is there a way to detect the poison?"

I throw him a vial of the poison.

Tsunade: "That is one of the samples I took of the poison. You should be able to invent something to detect it. Now my job is done here and I have other patients today so I ask that once you are able please leave."

I leave the room and go to my next patient today. As weird as it seems, my next patient is Nick Fury. He had finally gotten out of work long enough to come here in secret. I know because we had been keeping tabs on him. Officially, he was on an assignment and out of contact for the next couple of days.

Tsunade: "Mr. Fury, it is nice to see you are being honest on your papers for once."

Fury: "Yes, well in my work I often have to be careful. But I believed that lying to a doctor who would be healing my eye would be unwise."

Tsunade: "A valid thought. Now I will run some tests to make sure nothing has worsened since your last checkup a few months ago."

He nods and I start scanning him and checking his overall condition. It seemed like his health had slightly improved since his last visit.

Tsunade: "It seems like you took my advice and reduced your stress levels. Beyond that, I haven't found anything different. You should be fine to have the procedure today."

Fury: "Good, I have today and tomorrow off so I was hoping to get all the treatments done."

I grab my chin and think about the plausibility of it.

Tsunade: "Hmm, that should be doable. The procedure will be split into 3 treatments. The first will be today and the next 2 will be tomorrow. One in the morning and the other in the afternoon."

Once I lay out the procedure and what he will be unable to do for the time between the treatments I start the first treatment.

POV Orochimaru

I watch as the subject starts to expand and then explode massively.

Orochimaru: "Another failure."

Connors: "It seems the subject had a massive destabilization of his genome when FEV was introduced. Still, he lasted 43 seconds more than the last subject."

Orochimaru: "Sigh. Yes, but it seems we are still no closer to understanding how to make FEV do as it was originally intended. FEV 1, 2, and 3 are proving difficult to modify. The real issue is we are running low on test subjects. At this rate, we will need to start creating Clones to use as subjects."

Connors: "Yes, and I assume Lord Rio would not be too happy about such a method."

Orochimaru: "Hmm, it's hard to say. It would depend on whether or not we design the clones with souls. That shouldn't be too hard to accomplish. Empty human shells should suffice. The real issue would be getting the approval for funding. Cloning is expensive and time-consuming unless we ask for the assistance of Rio. We can't use the rapid-growth Clones as they would be too unstable to work as test subjects. Any results we got would be suspect and invalid."

Connors: "Perhaps Mr. Luthor could assist in this project."

Orochimaru: "He is busy with the Cloning Research and working with the Science Division on the Grand Herald. Combined with running LexCorp and taking care of his son, he doesn't have time to help us. Most of the other researchers are also busy."

Connors: "Then maybe we should request the help of more researchers?"

Orochimaru: "Hmm, yes, I will send in the request. It might take a while for a new scientist to be sent to us so for now we should continue our work."

I go back to the lab and start attempting to modify the FEV 1 Strain.

POV Tsunade

'Finally, I am done for the week. No more patients.'

Jiraiya: "Tsunade are you home?"

My eyebrow twitches as I hear that idiot's voice. I decide to not respond and hope he goes away. But my hopes are dashed a few moments later.

Jiraiya: "There you are."

Tsunade: "Sigh. What do you want? I am very busy."

Jiraiya: "Really? I thought you were done for the week."

I squint my eyes when he says that.

Tsunade: "And what makes you think that?"

Jiraiya: "Well I read your schedule and... oops. I mean... I made a lucky guess."

I crack my knuckles and approach him.

Tsunade: "It sounds like someone has been spying on me. I think I recall telling people the consequences of spying."

Jiraiya: "Now, now Tsunade. You are misunderstanding me. I wasn't spying on you or looking at you when you took a shower."

The room's temperature drops drastically and Jiraiya realizes what he just said and goes pale. He doesn't hesitate and starts running.

Tsunade: "JIRAIYA GET BACK HERE RIGHT NOW!"

Jiraiya: "I MISPOKE I SWEAR I WASN'T SPYING!"

Explosions are heard all throughout the forest as Jiraiya runs for his life and Tsunade attempts to punch him into the sun. Shisui, Neji, and Orochimaru had to try to break up the fight before the entire forest was destroyed.

Authors Note:

A chapter from the Ninja's perspective. I felt it was a nice change of pace and I think that showing some aspects of their lives was interesting to write about. FEV research is happening but it will be slow going as it is risky and dangerous research. Tony is now fully healed and can focus completely on making the improved Arc Reactor. If anyone has suggestions for scientists proficient in biology and genetics then let me know as I have found a couple of candidates but more are welcome. I will leave Jiraiya's guilt up in the air. Until next time Ciao.

Next chapter will be updated first on this website. Come back and continue reading tomorrow, everyone!
