Believe In The Weird and Wild (Star vs. the Forces of Evil x Steven U)

Chapter 158: Chapter 145: A Road Trip Through Dreamland

Summary:

A trip that went horribly, horribly, wrong.

Finally, some mundane peace. Just school, the normal peace with no existencial life problems or unnatural deadly situations. "Alright, you may begin your tests." Ms Skudnick, a familiar face, told the class.

Ah, a test. A mild source of headaches but an incredible source of accomplishment and achievement for her personal pride. What it must have said about her when this was what she rather preferred daily than riding a warnicorn…okay she'd still rather ride a warnicorn, but this was a close second. "Question one: What's ten times thirty?" This one was easy, just add a zero to the other when it was only ones and zeroes. "Three hundred."

"Correct!" Streamers and fireworks went off the moment she wrote it down. She didn't remember school being this celebratory about tests, but it has been a while since she was here. Probably a part of the new curriculum.

"Okay let's see. Question two: Where is the Sphinx located?" Wait, wasn't this her math class? Why did she suddenly get a geography question? Well, it had been a while since she was at school, maybe this was a mixed exam. Lets see, Sphinx was with those sandy people in deserts … oh, Egypt!

"Correct!" Once more the celebratory flares went off as she wrote it down. Two for two, not bad.

"Okay, smooth and steady. You got this. Now let's see. Question three: Which Queen of Mewni had a wand shaped like a fan?" Star was really baffled by that one. She was certain that Earth never covered Mewman history. That was part of the reason why she was so terrible at earth history at the beginning.

She shook her head. Either way, she wasn't going to pass up an easy chance for an A. "Celena the Shy."

Not only did she get the same streamers and shouts for joy, she got a gift basket that had a ribbon that had the words 'smart girl' written on top of everything. Super strange. Miss Skullnick wasn't tossing the food out the window.

"Just focus, just focus." Star shook it off, already feeling weird about today. "Question four, what did you have for breakfast?" Oh, easy, it was … it was … why don't they remember going to school? In fact everything before the test was oddly blank …

"Let's skip it, question number five." Star looked it over. "Who shattered Pink Diamond?" … What? "Um, Ms Skudnick." Star raised her hand. "I think you gave me the wrong test, we never went over this."

"Of course not." The troll woman smiled. "You're the one asking it."

"Why would I be asking this? I already know the answer." As much as it irked her.

"Do you really?" Her teacher asked, suddenly sounding like Mina, or Zircon, one of those two.

"Don't you remember what Zircon said?" She looked over to Jana, sitting upside down. "It doesn't make sense."

"Nobody guarded the Diamond. The diamonds themselves can't even make sense of it." Marco said, being in that older and hot abb form.

"What's … why are …" She paused. "This is a dream."

"Yes Star, it is." Ms Skudnick pointed to the door, which now opened into a strange space like infinity. "Now let this be your final lesson … if you really want an answer, go and find it. It may take a while to look for it, but finding the clues yourself will be more rewarding than waiting around for it."

"Finding clues." Star mulled it over. This just had 'bad idea' written over it. It was digging into a well of drama that would mess with her brother's head once again…

But if there was a chance that Rose Quartz didn't shatter pink diamond, that there was someone else those monsters could direct all those years of resentfulness and hate into anyone that wasn't Steven, then didn't she have a duty as his sister to do what she could to save him?

"And Star." She paused, turning to the troll woman. "It's been an honor teaching you … you've given me back my love of scaring knowledge back into students."

"I don't know how much of this is wishful thinking or reality, but thanks." She nodded her head towards her old teacher before heading towards the door.

========================================================================

Marco climbed over the fallen dragon, using it as a footstool to the castle window. It had been a long journey, but with the help of the reforming Demon King, the Salmon Guard, and the Hairy Barbarian, he finished his task. Stopping the evil monster that plagued the land, avenging his fallen family … and rescuing the fair maiden's hand.

"Oh my hero." Star Butterfly rose from her bed, long dress flowing with the gentle breeze as she rushed to him with a smile brighter than a thousand suns.

"My stunning Starlight. At last I found you." He cradled the absolute angel in his arm and took in her alluring scent of rainbows and fresh popcorn, with a face as cute as a puppy year as stunning as a diamond. "Me and my abbs have searched the land far and wide for you and your beauty."

"Yes, your alluring bod and perfectly long and flowing hair have ever decent sparkle to them, shining through even the darkest of nights, giving me hope that I may be saved from the evil Toffeesaurous."

"That slimy bastard may think he's the smartest lizard in the galaxy, but in the end, no one is able to resist the power of my homemade nachos." He let the moonlight hit him to amp up the dramatic effect. "One whiff and he was but a rat caught within my trap."

"And a cook, truly the hero of heroes." She tilted her head, using the same moonlight to make her eyes sparkle more than he could ever conceive. "May you honor me, with a kiss to break the curse that has me bound to this castle?"

"As if you needed to ask me, my lady." Swinging the fair maiden around, he put her in a dipping position as his mouth touched hers, her warmth overtaking him, pressing deeper and deeper as they continued to connect with each other completely, mind, body, and soul..

"Wow, so that's what I look like as an adult." He halted kissing his lover, turning to see … Star Butterfly … "Hey Marco."

"STAR!?" He backpaddled, falling on his butt, confused as all hell. "What are you doing here, why are there two of you … what the heck is happening!?"

"Well apparently I had subconscious questions about the convoluted nature of Pink's shattering." The girl shrugged. "So I walked into a door, and started dream walking, so score one for another power I share with my brother. Wanted to wait on dragging Steven into this, so I came here first …" She looked at her double. "... So you wanna talk about this?"

"I …" He blushed. "Look, this is technically my second round of puberty, do NOT judge me in the sanctity of my dreams!"

"No, no, I'm not offended … I just didn't take you for the kind of guy who had these types of dreams, safe guy and all." She looked at the older version of herself. "Nice to see you dream of me and not anyone else, or you would've had six arms full of magic to answer to."

"Right, of course not." Do not pull up that one night at the tavern. "So … let me just shift back to teenage Marco and I'll help … Do you know where to look?" He said, letting his body shrink down.

"My first thought was just jumping into the gems heads, but they don't dream other than Amethyst, and she wasn't there." Star grumbled. "Entered her head though, she dreamed of being human, and her family was the famethyst who she formed into some sort of gang, chaotic vandalization and all."

"I am really glad you didn't bring her with you." Marco chuckled, putting on his hoodie. "Would have been really hard to sneak through dreams."

"Yep, just glad she didn't notice me at all. There was just enough fire and rubble to hide behind." The girl put on a thoughtful look. "So far, my list for gathering people to help with this are you and the rest of the main group. Jana helped Steven with this the first time he did this, so we'll have to head there eventually."

"What about Eclipsa?" Marco asked. "She seems the most willing to 'go against the man' and she's training Steven and all that."

"True, but I'd rather keep adult interference as low as I can, plus I don't trust her to do something skeevy while we're essentially breaking into people's heads."

"Fair point." It was so cute to see his girlfriend think through situations. The growth and maturity was astonishing to witness. "Who else do we know that has experience breaking into other people's heads before?

"Well we have a lot of friends that have swapped brains before. That includes the pines twins, Gwen and.." Star's eyes widened as she snapped her fingers. "Luz, of course! I think she mentioned restoring her friend's mind once."

"Cool, let's hit her up then." Marco smiled, walking out into the starry cosmos with her. "... Which way is that?"

"Just look at them one at a time, we'll find it eventually."

"Really?" He looked at her with surprise. "Here I'd thought you'd be looking for a shortcut."

"Shortcuts aren't the answer here Marco. Just gotta do the work." She really had matured so much.

========================================================================

"Alright Steven." Luz held up some liquids. "As I learned through coven tracks, there are a few types of magic that rely on other stuff, allowing humans to use them." She explained. "As such, we have this, the mind jumping potion."

"Whoa … so cool." The tiny seven year old with curly hair and a large oversized pink shirt said with a sparkly and curious gaze that she often found on her face from time to time. "So we're going to drink this and read people's minds?"

"No, no. Not all potions are meant for drinking. Some of them are deadly poisons that will knock you out the moment you take a whiff." Luz patted the eager child. "This is one version of the spell you throw on people's heads, to jump inside them." She explained. "My first use of this was when Amity accidently burned away Willow's memories."

"Why would she do that?" He asked innocently.

"She had a lot of problems back then, but she's grown past them." Luz explained. "Soon she'll be your sister in law, just like me." She whispered.

"Does the 'in law' part mean anything important?" The boy asked. "Does that mean you're a sister that gets to break the law and get away with it like Eda?"

"No, although anything is legal as long as you don't get caught, so keep the truck of Cookie Cats a secret." The young witch winked at Steven. "It means we're family even if we don't share all the same parents."

"Well that never mattered to begin with." Steven pouted. "King's already family, right?"

"Yeah, I'm the most powerful little brother in the boiling isles!" The young titan shouted. "All will fear me, then when we're in power, we will own Cookie Cat himself!"

"We will spread his delicious glory to all the land, after we help ourselves to it of course." Steven laughed. "We get along and love each other, so that already makes us family!"

She laughed, ruffling his head. "Yes we are Steven, always." Luz smiled. "Now, when jumping into heads, always make sure to look out for-"

"Luz?" She turned to see Star and Marco standing there confused. "Are you dreaming about sharing dreamwalking tips with my brother?"

"Ahh, we aren't doing anything illegal, I swear!" She tried to cover the brew. "And I definitely wasn't planning on jumping into Mr. Universe's head to see when he's going to propose!"

"Would that be inception at this point?" Marco asked. "Because I don't think you can jump into the dreams of a dream construct."

"Wait, this is a dream?" Luz looked around, then at the little Steven. "…Hm, guess that explains why he's so young."

"Eh, half the time I still see him as a widdle baby." Star picked their brother up and tickled his stomach. "Aw, if only I could hold you like this forever."

"Let me go you crazy giant!" He laughed. "No, tickle monster!!" He cried for mercy.

"So, what's the deal?" Luz asked. "I thought Steven was the dream jumper."

"Using his powers, my subconscious is asking a question." Star said. "So, what do you know about dream walking into waking people?"

"First time I did it with a walking person was with… Belos." She shivered at the name. "I know that when you do it, it's twice as hard to avoid their inner self, which is what I and you guys are right now." Luz began to think. "Luckily in this case, real world logic and rules, thus magic and glyphs, work in here, so if I gather enough supplies from peoples dreams, I can make the passage go undetected."

"Alright people, let's make it work then." Star smiled. "Jana has the most magical junk, and Kelly should have some raw materials." The girl looked back at the little Steven and gave him a tighter squeeze. "Already embracing the sister role, huh?"

"Yeah. Sure, the parent stuff is weird, but we get along great, and those moments where the naivety shines is a treat."

"Yeah … he really needed to understand birth, but it was still a regret to let him walk through those doors." The magical girl sighed. "Alright, let's wrap this up before we wake up, don't know how much time we have."

========================================================================

"You know …" Jana turned to Marco as they looked around her dream. "It was a lot more fluffy than I was expecting."

"That's what Steven said too." She shrugged. "I like a balanced diet of flaming rainbows in my life. Too much doom and gloom never makes anyone happy." It's why she never committed to going full goth with black eyeliner and clothes.

"Suddenly I understand Eclipsa just a little bit more." Star said as she looked at a bunny that was chewing on the bloody gummy arms growing on a cursed old person-looking tree. "Okay, basic rundown, we need you and Luz's witchy know-how to break into Pearl's head. She's the only one that might have an idea on what really happened with Pink Diamond's shattering."

"Done deal." Jana smiled, pulling out a large wagon of equipment out of nowhere. Thank you, dream physics "Breaking into someone's head sounds fun … so, are we doing this with us or are we getting anyone else?"

"Only two more people..and next is the one I'm dreading the most." Star groaned as she opened up a celestial hallway to the subconscious of every mind around. "Last thing I'd ever want to do is get inside Kelly's messed up brain."

"The frenemy angle can only last so long you know." Luz mentioned as they started walking.

"I know … I just really hoped it could have been as easy as her being the enemy." Star walked up to a star within the cosmos, expanding it into a door. "Alright, be prepared, we don't know what to expect."

"At best, a mountain of bloody bodies with Kelly standing atop of her defeated enemies." Jana estimated as she turned the knob. "At worst, a wet dream with her boyfriend."

"Why did you have to put that out there?" Star muttered. "I already went through one tonight."

Jana raised a humored eyebrow at Luz. "Hey, my dreams were perfectly innocent … for half the night that is."

"Well the only other option is Marco, and I highly doubt 'safety boy' has those kinds of dreams."

"I haven't been the safe kid for over a year!"

"So you admit you totally wanted to do it with Star?" Jana smirked. "Or was it one of those vivid dreams where it's you and all your ex's?"

He opened his mouth to respond, only for a frozen tree falling next to him cutting them all off. "The heck .."

"Wohoo!" They watched as Kelly … rode with Marco … on a pink wolf … the fuck? "Come on Bro, we're almost out of time!"

"Maybe if you turned in your library book before, we wouldn't be in this mess!"

"Hey, you're the one that wanted to do every single move in the book! We were having a blast kicking Tad's butt with every page!" The woolet shouted, wearing a crown and armed with a sword with a long green crystal that formed the blade. "Seriously, I'm the princess of Woolandia, why do I still need to pay the fee like everyone else?!"

"Just because you make the laws doesn't mean you're above them!" Dream Marco shouted, making a pink shield and blocking some arrows. "We all have to put ourselves under it or else the people get antsy."

"... So she's totally swapping everyone's roles, right?" Jana asked.

"It's like a bizarro version of all those universes we watch whenever we create a viewing window." Star observed, looking like she wasn't sure how to take this.

"Yeah, I never thought she saw me as a brother figure." Marco commented on the side. "Then again, we're both the most combat focused of the group."

"Oh, maybe if we take a shortcut we can-" Dream Marco paused, looking at them as they got close. "It's body doubles!" He shouted.

"Stand back, I've got this!" Kelly raised her blade as the wolf charged closer.

"Hey, cool it bush head, you're dreaming!" Star yelled as she blasted the sword out of the Woolet's hand. "You don't have any siblings and you're not a princess."

"Hu?" The woolet blinked, before her eyes widened. "Ohhh … oh shit." The wolf let her off, the girl now blushing. "This is … embarrassing."

"Hey, we have our fantasies that we get lost in." Luz tried to wave off. "Sometimes I dream that I was born a witch stranded in the human world, and all the witches I know are human ."

"Crazy stuff." Marco walked over and patted her back. "Don't worry about it, 'sis'."

"I'm never gonna live that down." She groaned. "So, what brings you to my dream?"

"Need some raw materials before we burst into Pearl's head." Star said, walking over to some rusty metal. "You were the last tour on the stop."

"What about Steven?"

"I'd rather not drag my brother into this mess. I wanna do things on my own for a change."

"Actually, we're going to need him." Jana said. "He's the half gem with the dream walking power, and gem minds are already difficult enough to get through. Without him, we wouldn't have been able to get into Malachite's mind like before.

Star groaned. "The entire reason I went to Marco first was to make sure I DIDN'T drag my brother into more crazy traumatic experiences." She complained.

"If there's anything I've learned about traumatic experiences, it's that no one should ever be in a position to do it alone." Luz patted the girl on the back. "You came to us because you needed help, and as long as we're all sticking together all the way, that weight won't be so heavy to carry."

"Yeah, insanity happens one way or another." Jana added. "Plus this is Rose we're talking about, he'd want to be let on right away or he'll be pissed."

She just huffed. "Fiiiine, we'll get him in." Star said. "Come on guys, let's go get Steven."

========================================================================

Kelly looked around at the new world. "... Marco … you're the expert on minds … Why is everything black and white?"

"Well, as someone that dabbled in psychology.." Star's head lit on fire from hearing that word. "It's one of two things. Either this is representative of how he sees the world as black and white, or.."

"It's a 60's sitcom." Luz finished as they watched the large dinner table from the living room door

"What makes you say that?" Star asked.

"Guys, I brought Pizza!" Garnet came in as cheering was heard from … somewhere.

" Bongacowa!" Amethyst shouted as she shifted into a skateboard that a dream Star rode around the table.

"What have I told you about riding around inside the house!?" Moon shouted….

"Dunno, we block it out every time." A laugh track was heard at dream Star's response.

"Call it a hunch." Luz deadpanned.

"Probably should've expected just as much." Jana nodded with knowing snort. "Steven is the type to love like the type of schmaltzy nonsense they show here that can be resolved in twenty minutes."

"I just don't think we'll be able to get our project done by the end of the week, Steven. " The dream Luz said as she sat right next to Steven . "We spent the entire month getting Lars to stop smoking, stopping the Northwest's from bulldozing the homeless shelters, and wrestling alligators in the sewer! We didn't even pick a topic yet!" Looks like even in dreamland, Steven's sense of 'normal problems' was just a little bit off, and the laugh track continued to make fun of it.

"Honestly I was thinking we could go with fashion." Her boyfriend shrugged. "And who more knowledgeable than Kelly?" Oh, was he talking about her?

"Golly gee, glad you think so, Stevey wevey." Kelly looked at … the abomination of her in a dress with a campy smile. "Is it fine with Luz though? I wouldn't want to intrude on your project with too much kissing …"

"Not happening." Star read her mind and blasted the table to bits, stopping the sequence before it could go any further. "As long as I'm here, you too won't so much as touch hands." A bit extreme, considering how pda she was with Marco.

Kelly jumped in front of Steven, as the boy looked back and forth between her and the betty boo Kelly. "I didn't think it was that kinda dream." He muttered.

"It's not, we're hijacking it." Marco waved as he walked by, looking baffled at his counterpart.

In all her life she's never seen someone's eyes widen so large while their pupils shrink so small. "Ah…I can explain.."

"I know you think the best of me, and I'm flattered … but you have got to change how I look in here." She pointed to the rubber hose version of herself. "Seriously, I know I'm not big on dresses and stuff, but this looks like a preschool ballet dancer threw up on me."

"I really don't control most of the stuff here." He said. "Mina Loveberry is a mean teacher, Marco was the cool kid even before we first met up against Toffee, and there's a lot of glitches."

"I'm sorry, glitches?" Luz said with a bit of sweat.

"Yeah, whenever it connects with someone else's mind lots of creepy stuff happens." Steven said with a wince. "Luckily you guys came here, so I think we're fi-" He watched as Amethyst moved past them all, folding up the exit door and swallowing it whole. "What the..?" Steven shook his head. "What are you guys doing here anyways, and why this many people?"

"Well I didn't want to bring you into this, but I was trying to break into Pearl's head." Star admitted.

"To ask what happened to Pink." Dream Star smiled, the audience giving an 'ooohhh' as it sounded like a scratched record, looping over and over.

" Why does no one know how it happened? Why did everyone say it was Rose Quartz?"Amethyst continued the line of questions.

"Why are there so many questions about the situatio-situatio-situaitio-" River stood up, glitching with static.

"Ah...what's going on?" Luz asked as the world around them started to look like a broken tv screen.

"I told you guys it glitches." Steven sighed. "Usually when we're about to jump into someone else's head."

"Oh no …" Dream Kelly smiled. "You have the answers right over there." They pointed to the live studio audience … as the faceless figures started cracking and falling to the ground.

"The answer is much closer than you think." Dream Moon said as she and all the other dream figures began to get super pixelated, pushing all of them into the crumbling void. "In fact, some could say you've had the answer the entire time!"

"Steven, how likely is this to kill us!?" Marco shouted as they fell farther and farther.

"I don't want us to die, so best case, the shock wakes us up!" Her boyfriend as she clung to Steven for dear life.

"I like your neck!" Kelly shouted as they were falling, making Steven look at her. "Just so we're even on the weirdness of the dreams, in my dream I'm the princess and you're a human that I fall for, and I dreamed you had a neck!"

"Not the weirdest thing I heard!" He called back. "The only reason I'm fine without one is because so many people would want to strangle it!"

"That's totally fair! Just know that if you ever get one, I'll protect you "

"Aw, wholesome shipping in the face of death." Luz cooed at them.

"Please stop flirting in front of us!" Star shouted. "I'd rather not have our possible last moments be-" She was cut off as they finally hit the ground … or in her case, Steven.

========================================================================

Steven groaned as he landed on the hard cold ground. "Everyone okay?" He asked.

"Yeah … I got a cushion." Kelly spoke above him.

"And I got … everyone else." Marco groaned from under the three other girls in their group. "I am so glad my spine can't break."

"No, you'll just have a really sore back when you eventually wake up." Luz said as everyone got up. "I have to say, out of the three times I've hopped into other people's heads, this is somehow the least life threatening."

"My head only causes emotional damage." Steven groaned, getting up as he looked around. "And … we're on the moon." The boy sighed. "Because of course my life's problems just keep expanding every time we go to space." He felt bad a small part of him was tempted to blow the moon up.

"Space: I remember a time when you didn't suck." Star agreed with his sentiment

"Hey, we still know plenty of people who can have fun in space." Luz said. "Like that Lars person, Ben …" They paused. "You know, remember that time he said he scanned an alien werewolf?" The little witch girl asked. "Does that mean he can scan anyone not from earth?"

"I think his grandpa mentioned something about that watch not accepting certain humanoid species, but I get what you mean." Marco mentioned as they looked around. "Are we on the moon base? I don't remember this room."

"I think we passed by it on the way to the main chair, that one room with a giant orb." Steven tried to recall. "Pearl said it was some kind of observation device…"

" But this is what you wanted." The unmistakable nightmare voice of someone who could murder him in an instant spoke. "You begged us for a colony of your own. And now, all you want to do is be rid of it."

"The Diamonds!" Star shouted as she and him prepared to flee like heck into the vast emptiness of space. It would be much safer than facing those monsters.

"Wait." Marco held the back. "How could Star walk if we were around the Diamonds?" He asked.

"Probably because it's just their shadows showing." Jana pointed to a wall, where three silhouettes were shown. Two taller ones, yellow and blue, the former looking away from the third smaller figure. "Wow, Pink's a lot tinier compared to the other two."

"Can they hear us?" Kelly asked. "Can they even see us?" Probably not, considering they were still breathing and free.

"First, there were too many organics, then their cities were too difficult to dismantle, a-and now these... Crystal Gems? We're tired of your excuses, Pink." Blue Diamond spoke down onto the surprisingly small Pink Diamond. "This Rose Quartz can't hurt you. You can't be swayed by a few unruly Gems."

"This is just like the Jungle Moon dream." Steven recalled. "How am I getting a memory of something I've never seen before?"

"Empathy vision?" Star suggested. "Being around them."

"Does anyone else feel … abuse here?" Kelly asked hesitantly.

" But what if.."  The figure that resembled Pink Diamond tried to make her own point.

"Enough!" Blue cut off everyone with the force of the shout. "You must understand. You... are a Diamond. Everyone on this planet is looking to you. You don't even have to do anything. Just smile, and wave. Show everyone you are unfazed by this little uprising. Your Gems will fall into line, and these Crystal Gems will be no more. As long as you are there to rule, this colony will be completed." They said with a gentle tone.

"Starting to hear that abuse now." Marco said with a small bit of sweat.

"I didn't plan on seeing someone that makes my skin crawl as much as Belos today, but here I am." Luz shivered. "Even if she was evil, just imagine the emotional baggage Pink had to carry for thousands of years

"Yeah … lots of baggage." Steven growled out. "And because people were forced into it by arrogant morons, it led to my mom Shattering someone like-"

"Where were her agates?…Where were her sapphires!? … Where was her own pearl??" A shadowy figure walked past them, slender and familiar.

"The amount of effort that went into taking down Pink scarred Pearl so much she can't even speak of the event without freezing up." They continued strolling forward, closer and closer.

"IT WAS A SWORD! You shattered her with a sword!" The familiar shadow pulled out his mom's sword, slowly raising it over their head.

"Rose's sword?" Kelly looked at the sight curiously, leaning in closer. "That's not Rose carrying it though, way too skinny."

"Yeah, it looks almost like.." A slim figure in what looked like ballet attire and hair that pointed upright. "Pearl!?"

The shadow glared at them, her gem and eyes forming a trinity that gazed into his very soul. "Let us never speak of this."

Steven woke up in his bed, gasping for air. He instinctively clutched onto his stomach, the shock still flowing into him. "Could she have, did she really.." Did Pearl shatter Pink Diamond?! And that last sentence he heard … Did his mom order Pearl to do it?!?!

"Steven." Star apparently had snuck into his room when he wasn't looking and covered his mouth so he couldn't scream from surprise. "Your call bro. Want to confront her now or later?"

"... Later." Steven answered. "Like, tomorrow morning later … cause right now I just want one good dream that doesn't involve existentialism." Maybe he could figure out how to fix the dream Kelly and make them less … 'girly'.

"That's a tall order, but a lot easier to manage than whatever crapshoot we just landed in." Star laughed before heading out the door. "Night bro.."

"And Star?" She stopped. "I know you tried to do it without dragging me into this … so thanks for that … along with giving me something resembling a lead."

"Just doing my sisterly duties as I should." She bowed with a silly grin before heading out.

"Sisters…probably the best thing I could ever have." Almost as if on cue, his phone dinged several times with texts, mainly from Luz with all the words capitalized followed by several question marks and exclamation points. "Guess sleep is only optional."

"Sleepy knockout blast." Star deadpanned at his joke. He needed to remember to magic proof, and probably soundproof, his bedroom door.
