Beyond My Grandmother's Death

Chapter 9: Whispers of Defeat

"**

Everything was still in the black forest, so still that Adam's breath could be heard clearly, echoing as if it were the last human sound in this world.

"Laboubo... are we alone?"

Adam asked in a hoarse voice, as if the words were bleeding from within him.

The small creature answered in a faint voice: "Yes... but not for long."

Since his last encounter with the storm creature, Adam didn't just feel physical exhaustion, but something deeper... an exhaustion gnawing at his soul.

The night before, he found himself crying for no particular reason.

"Am I really the one who can protect the earth?"

The thought of surrender began to sneak in.

"Why me? Why is all this responsibility placed on someone who couldn't even visit his grandmother in her final days?"

He looked at his hands, covered in ash, and his arms, which had grown stronger... but had his soul become weaker?

He closed his eyes and remembered that night, the first time he opened the secret door in his grandmother's house, when he had only a vague curiosity…

Now? He was on the brink of death more than once.

Suddenly, he heard whispers.

They weren't from Laboubo.

Instead, the whispers seemed to come from the heart of the trees themselves, from the shadows of Nimora.

"Surrender… you are weak… your grandmother didn't want this path for you…"

"You are not like her..."

He fell to his knees, tears beginning to wet the earth, and asked himself:

"What if my grandmother was wrong? What if all of this was pointless?"

But then... he heard a quiet voice in his mind, familiar and compassionate.

It was his grandmother's voice.

"Strength isn't in not breaking, Adam… it's in rising every time you fall."

He opened his eyes, finding Laboubo standing before him, looking at him with sadness.

"Adam... Nimora wants you to surrender. That's her greatest trap."

Adam took a deep breath and slowly stood up, despite the pain in his body.

"I won't give up now… not before I understand why my grandmother left me this path… and not before I see the end of these shadows."

And he moved forward, with heavy but steady steps… as if his heart had begun to beat with truth once again.
