Beyond My Grandmother's Death

Chapter 10: The Mirror’s Heart

"**

Adam's footsteps led him in silence, cutting through the dark forest like an endless, long dream.

The closer he got to the heart of Nimora, the more the trees changed… no longer made of wood, but of dark glass that reflected distorted images of him.

Laboubo clung to Adam's shoulder and said:

"We're getting close... this is where the first crack between worlds was born."

"The crack?"

"Yes, when Nimora was created, it was not made from something… but from a rupture. A lie told in a moment of fear, and a promise left unfulfilled."

Adam continued his path, until he reached a vast plain, where, in the center, there stood a massive mirror embedded in the ground, reflecting the true sky—not the one above him… but the sky from his world, Earth.

He approached slowly. When he touched the surface of the mirror, images began to shift rapidly:

A small child crying next to his grandmother's bed.

The same child, now a teenager, tearing up a letter he never sent.

Then a young man standing in front of a grave... not knowing how to ask for forgiveness.

Adam gasped, taking a step back.

"What is this?"

Laboubo responded, his eyes shining with a hint of sorrow:

"This is the Mirror of Truth. Nimora draws its power from the buried memories of humans, the ones repressed and never faced."

And then... a shadow appeared from the heart of the mirror, but it wasn't a terrifying creature. It was a version of Adam himself,

but angrier, weaker... more bitter.

"I am you… the one you've always hated."

The shadow said, drawing closer.

"I am the fear you buried, the regret you laughed off."

"I am everything you never confronted."

Adam raised his hand, trying to summon power from the necklace… but no energy responded.

Laboubo said in a confused tone:

"You can't fight this shadow with force, Adam… you must acknowledge it."

Adam hesitated… then whispered to himself:

"I was afraid.

I was a coward.

I wish I never opened the door.

I lied to myself… repeatedly.

But I am here... admitting it.

And I won't run away anymore."

Then... the shadow image suddenly vanished, the mirror turned to ash, and behind it, a glowing glass door appeared, pulsing like a heartbeat.

Laboubo said in astonishment:

"Adam... you've opened the heart of Nimora."
