When Aaron's voice fell, all the students in the classroom turned their heads to look at the young man sitting in the last row.
Unlike the others, this student stood out not only because of his dark skin but also his imposing, muscular physique, which made him appear more like a seasoned warrior than a student.
"My name is Tessai Tsukabishi. I hope we can work well together," he said in a deep, steady voice.
Aaron surveyed the class and smiled. "Now that introductions are complete, it's time to head to Kazama to select your sealed states."
At this announcement, the students' faces lit up with excitement.
The sealed state, or Asauchi, is the form of a Zanpakutō before it attains its Shikai. Known as the "strongest Zanpakutō with infinite growth potential," it was forged by the legendary "Sword God," Ōetsu Nimaiya of the Royal Guard.
Every Soul Reaper in the Gotei 13 begins their journey with an Asauchi. At the Shin'ō Academy, students are temporarily issued an Asauchi, which is formally replaced by their own personalized Zanpakutō after graduation.
Kazama, the sacred vault where Asauchi are stored, is considered a restricted area. Students may only enter it under strict supervision when selecting their Asauchi.
Aaron led the students into the narrow chamber where they each chose their respective Asauchi. Afterward, they returned to the classroom, and he began instructing them in the foundational principles of combat and spiritual arts.
Four Centuries Later
Aaron had been teaching at the Shin'ō Academy for nearly 400 years. During this time, he had mentored countless students. Though his teaching style was laid-back, those who sought his guidance privately always left profoundly enriched.
One such student was Urahara Kisuke, now the Captain of the 12th Division and founder of the Technology Development Bureau. When Urahara first learned that Aaron would be his teacher, he was apprehensive, haunted by tales of the man's dark past. But over time, he came to see Aaron in a different light.
What impressed Urahara most was Aaron's unparalleled mastery of Kidō. Intrigued, Urahara approached him for specialized instruction. To his surprise, Aaron agreed, guiding him with unyielding precision. However, this training came at a cost—each lesson was paired with a grueling sparring match in which Urahara was invariably outmatched.
Yet, Urahara's diligence paid off. He gained insights and techniques far beyond what the Academy curriculum could offer. As Urahara's Kidō prowess grew, so did his admiration for Aaron.
Shihōin Yoruichi, Urahara's close friend, also sought Aaron's mentorship. She mastered Shunpo under his tutelage, earning her the title of the "Flash Goddess." Even so, Urahara couldn't forget the awe-inspiring speed Aaron displayed—something beyond comprehension.
An Unsettling Encounter
One day, as Aaron was heading home after a morning of teaching, a familiar voice called out, "Sensei, are you returning to your residence?"
Turning, Aaron saw a man with a calm demeanor and a faint smile—Aizen Sōsuke. "Ah, Aizen. It's been some time," Aaron replied warmly.
Aizen, ever composed, nodded. "Yes, Sensei. I've been preoccupied with my duties as Lieutenant of the 5th Division under Captain Hirako. Today, I was invited to teach a few calligraphy classes here at the Academy. It's fortuitous to meet you."
Aaron chuckled. "Hirako, eh? That man always had a particular charm about him—slightly disheveled but sharp as a blade."
The two exchanged pleasantries before parting ways. As Aaron disappeared into the distance, Aizen's polite smile faded, replaced by a glint of calculation.
Within the 1st Division Headquarters
In the office of Commander-General Yamamoto Genryūsai Shigekuni, Lieutenant Chōjirō Sasakibe stood at attention, holding a report. After reading the document aloud, he awaited Yamamoto's response.
Yamamoto closed his eyes in thought, then spoke gravely, "What is your perspective on this matter, Chōjirō?"
"Commander, I suspect it may be connected to the Technology Development Bureau," Sasakibe replied cautiously.
Yamamoto nodded slightly but countered, "While it is plausible to associate this with Kurotsuchi Mayuri, we must consider Urahara Kisuke's oversight. Since Urahara freed Kurotsuchi from the Maggot's Nest, Mayuri has refrained from his past transgressions. He is keenly aware of the consequences of experimenting on Rukongai residents or Shinigami."
Yamamoto's expression darkened. "No, this incident points to a different perpetrator. Summon the captains and lieutenants for an emergency meeting."
Sasakibe bowed deeply and departed to carry out the order.
