Chapter 3: Chapter 3 -Imminent disaster-
While Josef was answering Kira's questions, Rimiu placed breakfast on the table and sat down in a chair, listening to the conversation with a smile.
After hearing about his father's peculiarity, Kira wasn't too disappointed. If his father's quirk had been powerful, he would have likely become a hero instead of working like an ordinary person.
Kira looked at his mother, sitting beside him, with the same expectant eyes he had shown his father earlier—eyes as deep as the sea.
"Hehe," Rimiu chuckled at her son's enthusiasm and gently ruffled his hair.
"Alright, my peculiarity isn't suited for combat or particularly useful in most situations, but in extreme cases, it can be very helpful. Basically, my quirk is a fairly strong regeneration compared to other quirks of the same type. And before you ask why I didn't become a hero or something like that, it's because of the weaknesses that come with regeneration. One of them is the lack of physical strength—it can drain all my energy in just a few minutes. But that's not the real weakness of a regeneration quirk. The most fatal weakness is the pain of self-regeneration. And no matter how hard I've tried to overcome it, it's extremely difficult and incredibly painful," Rimiu explained. When she reached the part about pain, she shuddered slightly at the memory, closing her eyes and shaking her head to disperse the feeling.
Kira felt a little guilty for making his mother recall painful memories, and his expression softened considerably.
Noticing this, Rimiu quickly stroked Kira's hair gently, combing it to the side with a warm smile on her beautiful lips, comforting her son so he wouldn't extinguish the flame of curiosity in his heart.
"Sweetie, you don't have to worry about me. Even though my quirk is painful, it's also a lifesaver. Even if I were given the option to have another quirk, I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world," Rimiu reassured him with a maternal voice.
Hearing his mother's comforting words, Kira's spirits lifted significantly, and his rare smile widened a bit more than before.
"Now, you need to eat your breakfast before it gets completely cold," Rimiu said with a slightly more serious tone and gaze.
Kira didn't hesitate and nodded, picking up the utensil beside his plate and eagerly eating his breakfast in big bites.
Rimiu and Josef exchanged a glance, sharing a silent smile. They had known each other for many years and understood one another perfectly without needing words.
- Three months later -
Three months had passed since what happened with Kira. During this time, life had been very peaceful for the small family of three.
Ever since the day Kira learned he might have a quirk, he had tried many methods to discover his ability. However, to his misfortune, none of them yielded any results.
He was discouraged for a while, but his parents convinced him that quirks typically manifest at the age of four. Since he was only three, it would be too early for his quirk to appear.
Today was Saturday, an extremely sunny day, and not a single cloud could be seen in the sky.
Kira and Rimiu walked hand in hand along the busy street, surrounded by countless civilians of vastly different appearances. Quirks had made people's looks extremely diverse—some had fish-like features, others resembled lizards, and many had normal human bodies with animal traits like fox ears or cat tails.
Kira's gaze was as curious as that of a baby, looking around as if he were seeing the world for the first time. In fact, it was his first time seeing so many different people together.
Since he had no interest in playing with children his age, he had little interaction with others. Naturally, he was fascinated by the different appearances of so many people. If he weren't so shy, he would have surely run up to others, asking about their quirks.
Fortunately, his mother held his hand to prevent him from getting lost among the immense crowd. They were heading to the shopping mall to buy supplies that had run out after a long time of use.
Luckily, their home wasn't far from the mall—only about 700 to 800 meters away—so they didn't need to take the train. They only had to walk for a few minutes to reach the mall's entrance.
