Born In Ashes: The Enigma

Chapter 16: Eternal Grade

In the distant past… a terrifying war between the gods shook the world.

The cause of the war was a woman— the Goddess of Love— who was ambushed and beaten to death by several wicked Dark Gods.

Enraged, the husband of the Goddess of Love—one of the most powerful gods— waged war against the wicked Dark Gods.

The entire world trembled. Many worlds were destroyed and turned into dust. Billions perished. Mortals wept in agony and prayed for the war to end.

In the end… the other gods grew furious at the destruction caused by the husband of the Goddess of Love.

As a result, they joined forces with the wicked Dark Gods and beat him to death as well.

End of the story...

Azrael opened and closed his mouth like a goldfish, as though trying to say something, but after reading such a ridiculous tale, he had no idea what to say.

In the end…

"F*ck…" Despite holding the Cold Blooded trait, he couldn't help but curse. "I just wasted two hours of my precious life on this sh*t."

He tossed aside the book titled The Last War of Gods and took a deep breath.

"Damn it. It's my fault for trusting the words of a thirteen-year-old brat. I asked him for a book about something interesting related to the world, and he gave me this garbage novel written by a brain dead author."

It had already been more than twenty four hours since Azrael first opened his eyes in this new world.

Just two hours ago, while having breakfast with Kael, he had asked the boy to bring him a book about something interesting related to the world—using the excuse that he was still recovering and needed to stay in his room. To relieve his boredom, he wanted to read.

Kael, being a kid, hadn't thought too much about it and enthusiastically promised to bring a very interesting book.

"Based on a real event…" Azrael read the note scribbled on the novel's cover and rubbed his temple.

"I need to teach him that just because something says it's based on a real event doesn't mean it actually is," He muttered under his breath and shook his head.

Last night, he had managed to gain a basic understanding of the world he was now in—and it would be a lie to say he wasn't shocked.

"I thought that with my experience, surviving here and keeping Kael safe wouldn't be too hard—even if those two people have the same personalities as before—but…" He looked at the band on his wrist with a complicated expression.

"There are even people who use planetary bodies as footballs for fun. Forget fighting them—even a sneeze from someone like that could turn me into dust."

Irritated by his current situation, he slumped down on the bed.

"Awakening… Only after reaching the age of sixteen and undergoing my Awakening can I gain the power to protect myself and Kael."

Memories of the past—where he had been utterly powerless, tossed into a hellish nightmare just because he was weak—flashed through his mind, and his expression turned ice cold.

"Not this time... It doesn't matter who they are or how powerful they may be…" With a thought, he opened his status window.

He had absorbed roughly one-third of the energy from the Cosmic Energy Affinity Pill. As his body was nourished by cosmic energy, his previously pitiful stats had increased quite a bit.

Especially his Cosmic Energy. Now, he could clearly feel it flowing through his body. And thanks to his Infinite Comprehension trait, he already had a few ideas on how to utilize it.

Azrael shifted his gaze to the bottom section of his status window and narrowed his eyes.

"Shop, Inventory, Task , and Task Points… Just what are these things? Even after reading dozens of articles online, I couldn't find a single mention of them. No one else's status window includes these sections."

He closed his eyes for a moment. Although he wasn't sure, he had a hunch that these elements might be related to how he ended up in this world in the first place.

"Well… it's not like I will uncover the truth just by thinking about it without any leads," He muttered under his breath and looked back at his Traits.

---) Traits: Infinite Comprehension (Eternal Grade), Cold Blooded (White Grade—Evolvable)

====

He had searched the internet last night and discovered that there were eight levels of Traits. Ranked from lowest to highest, they were:

White Grade, Red Grade, Orange Grade, Yellow Grade, Green Grade, Blue Grade, Indigo Grade, and Golden Grade.

The most confusing part, however, was that no matter how hard he searched, he found zero information about an Eternal Grade trait.

Not only that—according to what he read, trait grades were fixed.

If a person awakened a White Grade trait, they could not evolve it naturally no matter what they did.

There were a few extremely rare items in the world capable of evolving traits—but natural evolution was considered impossible.

However, as Azrael looked at his Cold Blooded trait— clearly marked as Evolvable—he muttered.

"There are too many strange things about me… Or maybe the information available online isn't complete."

That was also one of the reasons he had asked Kael to bring him a book containing more information about the world as he knew it was simply impossible to find everything on the internet.

"Although this world is incredibly dangerous…" Azrael glanced at his Eternal Grade trait, and recalling the information he had gathered online last night, his purple eyes gleamed slightly.

"If I use this trait wisely… I might—no, I will definitely be able to grow stronger very quickly."
