Captivating The Demon King: Eve's Obsession

Chapter 20: Grave

Kira sat all day and night beside the demon lord's bed, tending to his wounds and keeping an eye on him. The last memory of her sister being abducted by the king himself and the heartbreaking sight of Madame Gathel's lifeless body on the floor haunted her mind still.

Kira sniffed as her eyes went to Demon Lord Raha's unconscious form. He was brutally injured by the king and it's been more than two days now since she had been by his side and he was yet to regain consciousness. She had no idea how to make a Demon Lord feel better and it was super weird to see how slow Demon Lord Raha's wounds were healing compared to how she remembered Head Nun Gagadel's wounds used to heal at light speed whenever she's hurt.

The demon king must have done more to him than to break a few bones and ruffle some of his feathers.

Kira rose to her feet to adjust the covers around his large body before leaving the room. The house was eerie, quiet, and dark. She was scared and alone and only prayed Demon Lord Raha would recover fast so it wouldn't be so lonely here again. Every painting on the wall and inanimate object gave her the creeps as she moved to a particular room further down the hall. The whole place smelled bad and she could hardly breathe as everywhere was so cramped up.

Kira paused before the small wooden door, her hands trembling as she reached for the handle, tears streaming down her face as she tried to have enough guts to deal with this. She had been stalling to do this for days and it could only get worse if she didn't take action now.

The girl braced up, gulped down the lump that formed at the back of her throat before pushing the door open and stepping inside the empty and partly dark room.

Kira had to endure the putrid smell of the room as the floorboards beneath her feet creaked under her weight. She moved close to the rapidly decaying body of the demoness and couldn't help but feel bad that she had to die like this and it probably had to do with them. The price for disobedience to the angels and their guardian was becoming much more than just being chased out of their homes. It was getting costlier and harder to deal with.

The demon king took Eve from her against her will and she could do nothing but hide behind the wall and sob. Only the heavens could tell if her Evie made it through the night and was still alive. She was there to witness how the king behaved to her at first meeting. How he made it so clear he hated her even though she was destined for him.

He probably took her to finish what he started and it was something Kira wouldn't be able to bear for the rest of her life.

''Eve…'' she sobbed out as her figure loomed over the swollen body of the demoness and tried her best to be strong.

There could also be a solid chance her Evie was still alive but probably held captive and being bullied around by all those demons. If that turned out to be true, then she planned to stick to Demon Lord Raha's side and use him to buy her way into the Red Palace and save her sister from the cruel demon king.

She nodded her head before bringing herself to her knees before the body. Her hands shook as she reached out to its cold hands and shivered. It was very rare for a demon to die. They only live long enough till the point their soul returns back to where they were made from originally; bright, shiny crystals and light. But some chose to return as Hell fire and burn for everlasting.

Only a powerful demon like the demon king was capable of ending the life of a fellow lower-ranked demon. And the thought of what he would put her Evie through scared her a lot.

Kira thought of how she was going to drag this body all the way down to the grave she spent hours digging up for it. It wasn't sanitary to leave it rotting up in this room and only the heavens could tell just when Demon Lord Raha was going to regain his consciousness.

If she didn't want to be consumed by guilt for life, she had to give a decent burial to the demoness that wanted to help them. Kira took in deep breaths and sighed out. She held on to the ice-cold hands of the demon before rising to her feet and began to drag her body along the wooden floors of this room.

She hadn't made it to the doors of the room before she collapsed on the ground in exhaustion and to catch her breath. She had only successfully lifted the body only by a few inches from its original position and she still had a long way to go.

You could blame it on her skinny and malnourished form. She couldn't believe that she would be expending all of her energy tonight on trying to get rid of a body she was not responsible for.

Kira spent hours dragging the body on the floors and dirty carpets of Demon Lord Raha's mansion. She dragged it out of the house from the back and across the field. The moon was thankfully high up into the night sky and its pale blue light illuminated her path clearly as she struggled.

Kira cursed severely when the place she had dug up was still a bit far from the house and she was this close to her body giving up on her.

''Ah!'' she cried out, her voice sharp as the owls and oden birds observed her figure from the nearby trees. Some had black beady eyes and the others bright red as they watched her try to get rid of the mess without falling apart. She fell to the ground when she made it to the grave she dug up. The depth of the grave was poorly done but what other choice did she have?

After several minutes of catching her breath and calming her racing heart, she stood up and pushed with all her might as the body of the demoness rolled and landed unceremoniously into the pit. Kira rose to her full height, her eyes widening a bit at how cramped the size of the hole was to accommodate the body of the demoness.

She considered just covering up the hole like that but a part of her felt too guilty to do so. With a loud groan, she pulled the body of the demon back up and aimed to expand the size of the grave a bit. The body of the demoness rolled back into the pit when she was done and thankfully, the size was much more accommodating than the previous one she dug.

She began to cover it up with a shovel, her eyes aware of her surroundings, trying to see if no one was around to see what she was up to in the dead of the night. Kira picked up large stones to use as landmarks for the grave and returned back to the house when she was done.

She paused at the kitchen, turned on the tap and began to furiously wipe out every trace of dirt and blood from her hands and fingernails. She suddenly felt so repulsed by the way her hands were and by the smell on and around her. She needed a good scrub. But first, she was dehydrated. She hadn't eaten or taken anything since she got here.

Her eyes wandered around the kitchen cabinet for any sign of a cup. She had no idea where they were being kept so she went ahead to drink directly from the tap, rinsing her mouth in the process.

She choked on the water when a loud bang sounded behind her. She straightened her form from the sink and slowly turned around to see what that was.
