Chapter 10: Foul Breathed Monster
"Summoning a non-main combat magic card monster—Flame Heavy Knight!"
The magic card was placed into the first card slot.
In an instant, a white light enveloped the card, initiating the summoning of the magic card monster.
On the white stone floor of the arena, a single spark floated up. Its flame was faint, but around it, thousands upon thousands of other sparks began to swirl.
Amidst the countless sparks, a humanoid figure, approximately 2.5 meters tall, gradually materialized and became clear.
Flames coalesced to form its body, every inch of which was covered in crimson armor, transforming it into a red heavy knight.
Even its face was protected by a steel visor, with only a faint glimpse of its pale blue glowing eyes visible beneath.
Flames erupted beneath its feet.
The fire burned fiercely, sweeping over its armored boots, greaves, belt, and breastplate, leaving behind a trail of ash. The edges of its armor gleamed with gold inlays.
The flames grew even more intense, forming a diamond-shaped alloy shield on its left arm and a dark black lance in its right hand.
The surface of the lance was covered in fine cracks, through which the energy of fire elements could be faintly seen.
In the front row of the second-year Class 3's seating area, the homeroom teacher, Jiang Qingmiao, along with He Nuonuo and Zhang Mingyun, were well-acquainted with Su Chengyang's magic card monsters.
This Flame Heavy Knight was clearly different from before.
Its aura, as well as the weapons and equipment it wielded, were far superior to its previous iterations.
The large screen displayed Su Chengyang's information page.
Deng Qilang glanced down at the screen on his duel platform, observing the details of the magic card monster Su Chengyang had summoned.
He was genuinely surprised.
"It's actually stronger than the Foul Breath Monster!"
[Magic Card Monster: Flame Heavy Knight (3 Stars · Blue)]
[Monster Race: Warrior Clan (Fire Attribute)]
[Health Points: 2000/2000 (As a non-main combat monster, it lacks the support of a main imprint, but due to its high compatibility with the card master, its health reduction is minimized.)]
[Combat Power/Defense: 890/790 (As a non-main combat monster, it cannot fully utilize its combat potential without the main imprint, but due to its high compatibility, it can unleash a significant portion of its power.)]
"Flame Heavy Knight, charge! Shield Bash!" Su Chengyang commanded without hesitation.
The Flame Heavy Knight remained silent, a man of few words.
The diamond-shaped shield on its left arm gathered fire elemental energy as it launched into a rapid charge. The high temperature of the flames concentrated on the shield's surface, slamming into the unprepared Foul Breath Monster's abdomen.
The slime on the monster's skin was instantly scorched dry, and its massive body trembled violently, like waves rippling across its form.
The enormous creature staggered backward, nearly falling before it managed to steady itself.
A charred mark was left on its bloated belly. Despite its 870 defense points, it couldn't withstand the heavy knight's devastating blow, and its health dropped by a staggering 150 points!
"Gurgle, gurgle!" The Foul Breath Monster spat out a vile substance, filled with biological waste, reeking of toxins.
The Flame Heavy Knight raised its shield to block the attack, the surface sizzling as the corrosive liquid made contact.
"I—eat!" The Foul Breath Monster opened its gaping maw, releasing a cloud of black gas before thrusting out a thick, slimy tongue to latch onto the knight's shield.
But to its surprise, the Flame Heavy Knight's other hand gripped its lance and thrust it forward, piercing straight through the monster's fat tongue!
With a burst of strength from its right arm, the five-meter-tall, massive Foul Breath Monster was lifted off the ground and hurled into the air, crashing down onto the arena floor with a resounding thud.
Its face smashed into the white stone floor, leaving it dazed and disoriented, barely able to stand.
The crowd erupted in gasps and cheers.
That move was spectacular!
The Foul Breath Monster's health plummeted to 1200 points. At this rate, it wouldn't be long before it was completely defeated.
"As expected of the senior the dean singled out, he's so strong!" exclaimed a first-year male student.
A female student added, "That knight is really, really cool!"
Clap, clap, clap.
He Nuonuo was applauding.
She cheered for Su Chengyang, celebrating the Flame Heavy Knight's outstanding display of combat prowess.
The Flame Heavy Knight pulled out its lance and swung it down onto the Foul Breath Monster's back, causing its spine to cave in slightly. The monster howled in pain.
After landing the combo, the Flame Heavy Knight swiftly retreated, putting distance between itself and its opponent.
Its left arm shook a few times, dislodging the sticky liquid clinging to its shield.
After this series of attacks, the Foul Breath Monster's health had dropped to 989 points.
"Gurgle, gurgle..." Black water oozed from its mouth, clinging to its skin as it slowly pushed itself back up.
Its once beady eyes now glared viciously at the Flame Heavy Knight.
White steam billowed from its back, a clear sign of its fury.
"The Foul Breath Monster should have the advantage over the Flame Heavy Knight. Su Chengyang, you've really given me a little surprise," Deng Qilang remarked, somewhat taken aback.
Normally, a water-attribute monster like the Foul Breath Monster would counter a fire-attribute monster like the Flame Heavy Knight.
But this was no ordinary situation.
From the judges' seat, Zhou Hua, who rarely commented, offered his thoughts.
"Third-tier advanced-stage card masters are limited by their spiritual energy, restricting the magic card monsters they can control. Blue-quality monsters generally haven't mastered elemental powers at the three-star stage, but this Flame Heavy Knight has managed to harness partial elemental energy through specific methods. First and second-year students, take note and learn from this."
The first and second-year students in the audience were even more impressed by the Flame Heavy Knight—and by Su Chengyang.
Even among three-star magic card monsters, there could be a vast difference in power.
A third-tier advanced-stage card master's monsters naturally couldn't compare to those of a third-tier peak-stage card master.
But there were always exceptions!
On the western duel platform, Deng Qilang suddenly laughed.
"Haha, as expected of the dean, concise and to the point."
"Blue-quality magic card monsters indeed haven't mastered elemental powers at the three-star stage."
"..." Su Chengyang didn't feel like engaging with Deng Qilang's self-assured tone, so he remained silent, simply watching.
Deng Qilang continued, "Three-star magic card monsters that surpass blue quality demand even greater strength from the card master. Generally, only third-tier peak-stage card masters can earn the recognition of such monsters and summon them.
But there are always exceptions. For families with deep legacies, spanning over six generations, some three-star monsters that surpass blue quality... can still be summoned and controlled—!"
His voice suddenly rose.
Many second-year students felt their hearts tighten.
Was it coming?
A three-star magic card that surpassed blue quality—a three-star cyan-quality monster!
Su Chengyang looked at Deng Qilang, knowing that while some of what he said was true, he had deliberately omitted certain details.
True prodigies, even at the third-tier advanced stage, could control magic card monsters that surpassed blue quality.
On the duel platform opposite Su Chengyang, Deng Qilang raised his arm and pointed at him, barely containing his smugness and arrogance as he declared, "And I happen to possess such a legacy! Su Chengyang, how will you withstand a magic card monster born from a bloodline spanning over six generations?!"
"It's coming," he finished, narrowing his eyes as he held up a three-star magic card, its name written in cyan.
