Chapter 9: Summon!
Zhou Hua glanced at Su Chengyang and nodded in approval.
"Alright, it's time to step up."
Under the gaze of the crowd, Su Chengyang rose from his seat.
He took a step forward, heading towards the duel platform.
On the western duel platform, Deng Qilang stood at a higher vantage point, looking down as Su Chengyang ascended the opposite platform.
The test was about to begin.
Deng Qilang let out a light snort.
"Bringing this upon yourself!"
He had originally thought he would face Su Chengyang in the second round, the finals.
But since they were meeting earlier, he wasn't going to hold back.
"Su Chengyang, soon, we'll be in two different worlds," Deng Qilang thought to himself, one hand on his hip.
Qingbei Academy was one of China's top institutions, but even among its students, there were hierarchies.
Once you advanced to the elite class, your progress in all areas would accelerate. And if you could participate in the subsequent inter-academy league, you'd be on a fast track to rapid advancement!
As Deng Qilang watched Su Chengyang, his perspective broadened, and suddenly, the other boy didn't seem so detestable anymore.
It was just that he had once seen him as a rival, and rivals naturally clashed.
"We were never on the same level. Hmph, I was being narrow-minded before," he muttered to himself.
His true rivals should be Zhang Mingyun and He Nuonuo.
The perspective shifted to Su Chengyang.
He stood firmly on the duel platform.
He took out three magic cards: **[Angel Flower Demon (3 Stars · Blue)], [Flame Heavy Knight (3 Stars · Blue)], and [Fully Armed - Flowing Fire Lance (3 Stars · Blue)].
He placed the three cards into the card slots one by one.
His right hand swept over the card box, and a fourth magic card appeared in his hand!
Holding the fourth card, Su Chengyang looked at it—the white dragon.
He placed it into the card slot.
[Blue-Eyes White Dragon (3 Stars · Cyan)]
Five seconds later.
The crystal at the front of the duel platform emitted a green light.
"Test passed, duel begins!" Zhou Hua announced.
The crowd erupted in cheers. After the previous three consecutive losses, the atmosphere had shifted.
Su Chengyang felt the duel platform beneath his feet tremble. It began to rise, moving towards the end of the cantilevered arm.
Once the platform reached the end of the arm, it came to a halt.
This was the first time Su Chengyang had stepped onto such a grand stage!
He retrieved the four magic cards from the slots and placed them into the storage compartment on the control panel.
Su Chengyang raised his head, his gaze locking onto Deng Qilang across the way.
The two were over a hundred meters apart, but he could see the unmistakable arrogance in Deng Qilang's demeanor, as if he were already the victor, standing high above the clouds.
That expression, that attitude—it was something only Deng Qilang could pull off so naturally in the entire class.
Su Chengyang didn't like people like that.
Arrogant, and acting like they were already on top before the battle had even begun.
Coincidentally, his friends Zhang Mingyun and He Nuonuo also despised such individuals.
Su Chengyang had no intention of wasting words.
"Is it because you're about to be eliminated that you're so sullen and silent?" Deng Qilang raised an eyebrow.
"Maybe it's because the person across from me is so unlikable that I don't feel like talking."
"Let's see if your magic card monsters are as sharp as your tongue."
Deng Qilang gripped a magic card, his gaze sharp.
He placed it into the first card slot.
"Summoning a magic card monster in a non-main combat form, using the power of the summoning device! Descend, my... Foul Breath Monster!"
The card in the slot was enveloped in a beam of light, consuming one of Deng Qilang's magic card imprints.
But something miraculous happened.
The summoning device on the duel platform released its internal energy, replacing Deng Qilang's own spiritual energy consumption.
This meant that summoning the magic card monster didn't drain his own spiritual energy.
The crystal at the front of the duel platform projected the card's energy into the arena.
A purple magic circle rose from one end of the arena.
"Woo..." A mournful wail echoed.
Skeletal heads of vengeful spirits flew out, swirling above the magic circle.
The purple magic circle resembled a deep, dark lake. Suddenly, a monster burst forth, opening its gaping maw and swallowing all the skeletal heads in one gulp.
Its dense, interlocking teeth formed a net, capturing all the skulls and devouring them in one swift motion.
The Foul Breath Monster had appeared.
It stood about five meters tall, massive, with a slimy, mucous-covered body that resembled a mutated toad.
Its short, stubby legs supported its weight, while a fat tail dragged behind it. Its toad-like mouth was filled with sharp teeth, the longest two resembling walrus tusks, hanging out over a meter long.
Its gray hands slapped against its belly, and its large head bore two small yellow eyes, greedily staring at Su Chengyang.
Its nose constantly oozed thick mucus, forming bubbles that popped and reformed.
"Gurgle, gurgle." It patted its belly, and a burst of gas escaped, releasing a thick purple toxic fog.
One could only describe its appearance as "unique" and "distinctive," enough to make Su Chengyang physically uncomfortable.
"This is my new magic card monster. Since it's not a main combat monster, my personal information panel won't display its specific details.
Instead, it will have its own separate information page," Deng Qilang explained calmly.
This was one of the rules.
Non-main combat magic card monsters wouldn't appear on the player's personal information page but would have their own independent page.
Both the large screen and the main screen on the duel platform would update simultaneously to display the information.
[Magic Card Monster: Foul Breath Monster (3 Stars · Blue)]
[Monster Race: Mutant Clan (Water Attribute; a special race formed from the mutation of other races, possessing bizarre and unique traits)]
[Health Points: 1600/1600 (As a non-main combat monster, it lacks the support of a main imprint, resulting in reduced health and no additional bonuses)]
[Combat Power/Defense: 690/870 (As a non-main combat monster, it cannot fully utilize its combat potential without the main imprint)]
Its specific information was displayed.
The main imprint's primary function was to allow magic card monsters to fully utilize their health and combat power without any reductions, while also granting additional health bonuses.
For a monster like the Foul Breath Monster, which couldn't fully unleash its power, these stats were indeed impressive!
"Su Chengyang, summon your monster!" Deng Qilang pointed at Su Chengyang.
"Let's see what kind of magic card monster you've been hiding in the bathroom to create."
His last sentence was deliberately sent through a private channel, audible only to the two of them!
"That depends on your ability."
Su Chengyang's true magic card monster wasn't just the Blue-Eyes White Dragon.
Long before this, using his innate ability—Deduction—he had analyzed, modified, and strengthened his existing magic cards!
His hand swept over the magic cards.
A new magic card appeared between his fingers.
"Summon—!" he shouted.
