Chapter 6: A Dragon
A dragon faced its defiant prey in a wide clearing amidst the dense, lush forest.
"Why didn't you just lay down and be eaten so our time wouldn't be wasted?" This dumb deer is driving me nuts. I couldn't believe I'd been chasing it for almost a week. This is infuriating. Whatever—they say its meat is delicious. Once I catch it, my tiredness will be gone.
The Red Deer, the same size as me, glared at me with defiance which ticked me off, its glowing antlers pulsing faintly with energy, red fur that covered its muscular body, and pure black eyes that showed defiance.
The Red Deer lowered its head into a strange posture. Huh, what's with that posture? Lukas never told me about this.
I watched the Red Deer closely, raising my guard.
Between the deer's antlers, a sphere of condensed magic formed, its crackling aura twisting the air with heat and static, freezing me in place.
"Damn you, Lukas—' easy and delicious prey' my ass." As soon as I saw that ominous sphere of magic, I frantically flapped my wings and soared into the sky. When I reached a certain altitude, a blue light suddenly blinded me. Then, an earth-shattering explosion erupted. A second later, a powerful shockwave slammed into my body, tumbling me uncontrollably through the air. I flapped my wings and twisted my body around multiple times before I managed to regain control and stabilize my flight.
I looked down and saw a massive crater stretching for miles, steam rising from its scorched edges. If that attack had hit me, I would've died for sure. Even though the attack didn't pack overwhelming destructive power, it was enough to kill a dragon like me. I'd felt terrifying heat at the center of the blast a moment ago—heat that would've killed me instantly.
The Red Deer didn't give me time to rest. It immediately fired magic bullets at me, streaks of blue light slicing through the sky.
"Lukas, that bastard. If I see him again, I'll smack his ugly face with my claws for tricking me into targeting this annoying deer." I cursed my so-called friend while dodging the attacks. I didn't do a great job, though; thanks to my huge dragon body, some attacks landed. Thankfully, my scales successfully blocked the damage.
I took a deep breath.
"Wind Dragon, Roar."
A powerful tornado shot out from my mouth, its roaring winds tearing through the forest and hurtling toward the Red Deer. The tornado grew stronger and wider the farther it traveled. By the time it was about to hit the Red Deer, it had expanded to an astonishing width of five miles.
Boom!
An earth-shattering impact erupted, generating a powerful shockwave and razor-sharp wind blades that tore up the ground and flattened more of the forest.
"Tsk, it blocked it with magic."
On the ground, the Red Deer stood still, its antlers glowing brighter. A thin barrier surrounded it, shimmering faintly but holding firm.
"You blocked it once, but can you block it a second time?"
"Wind Dragon, Roar!" I put in extra effort, doubling the output and creating a more powerful roar.
The Red Deer tried to block it again, but this time, it wasn't successful. The barrier collapsed, and the shockwave and wind blades tore into the deer's body, breaking its bones and shredding its flesh until all that remained was an unrecognizable paste of meat on the ground.
I flew down and stared at my prey.
"I went overboard. How am I supposed to eat this thing?"
Should I scoop it up with my claws first or just bite into it? While I pondered how to eat it, I sensed someone approaching from the sky.
I looked in a certain direction and saw a dot in the distance sky.
A few seconds later, a silhouette fell from the sky, crashing into the ground with a powerful impact that raised a cloud of dust. When the dust settled, it revealed a man dressed in black.
The man looked ordinary, and his magic power was small. How did someone like him survive in this place with such meager magic? I wondered.
"Who are you?" I asked, curious.
After landing, I heard someone's voice. Turning toward it, I saw a Green Dragon staring at me with curiosity.
"Me? I'm John Von Alver. Nice to meet you, dragon." After introducing myself, I gestured for him to do the same.
"Rekno."
"Okay, Rekno. Nice meeting you. Can you be my mount?"
The dragon, who had been curious a moment ago, turned sharp. Killing intent radiated from his body.
"You dare ask a Great Dragon like me to be your mount? You've got guts, I'll give you that!" he growled menacingly. His magic power surged, painting the world's color with his red magic pressure. His magic enveloped an area of true infinity. The ground trembled beneath its weight.
"Sixth, seventh, no—ninth tier. A dimension destroyer. Not bad."
Hearing my comment, Rekno, the dragon in front of me, grew furious.
"Roar!" The earth shook, and a shockwave flattened everything in its path.
Dragons have two types of roars: the normal roar, which uses sheer vocal force to create powerful shockwaves that affect a large area, and the magic roar, which unleashes elemental dragon breath, such as fire, ice, wind, etc affecting a vast area.
This dragon has a bad temper. What else should I expect from a young dragon? Still, this one was impressive—dimensional-level strength for someone so young. But if I remember correctly, I designed my creation's power system to be off the charts. By that standard, this dragon wasn't too impressive. Based on my observation, he was at least at the omniversal level—his hidden power included.
Rekno flapped his wings and ascended. He took a deep breath.
"Wind Dragon, Roar."
A raging tornado shot from his mouth, ripping through the air with deafening force, hurtling toward me.
"Yeah, calm down."
"Eternal Prison." At my words, a translucent barrier enveloped the entire area, trapping both me and the dragon inside.
"What's happening? My magic—I can't feel it! Human, what did you do?" Rekno scowled and growled, his Roar disappearing.
I ignored his question and stared at him.
He snorted. "Do you think sealing my magic is enough to stop me? You're dead wrong!" Rekno dived toward me at high speed.
To counter, I reinforced my body and punched him square in the face, beating him senseless.
A while later...
"I surrender," Rekno whimpered, crying. His body was battered and bruised.
"If you were going to surrender anyway, why didn't you just do it earlier?"
"Why would I? I'm a dragon! We don't surrender without a fight!" Rekno spat angrily.
"Oh, do you want another beating?" I raised my fist threateningly. Rekno immediately changed his tone, apologizing profusely while cold sweat dripped down his face.
"Okay, enough chit-chat. Let's go to the Old World."
Rekno grumbled audibly but bowed his head to let me on his back. I hopped on, signaling him to take off by tapping my foot.
Rekno begrudgingly flapped his wings and soared into the sky.
