Chapter 13: Ch.13 : The Fifth Girlfriend
That afternoon, after his girlfriends had gone home, Nic tidied up the house as usual. But his attention drifted toward Kiara's room—she hadn't come out all day. Curiosity won over fatigue, and he decided to knock on her door.
"Sis? It's evening already, still asleep?" Nic slowly opened the door.
Turns out, Kiara was asleep on her bed, her expression more peaceful than usual. Nic smiled gently and walked over with a blanket. But as he got closer, Kiara suddenly grabbed his wrist.
"You won't forget about your sister one day, will you?" she murmured, half-asleep.
Nic chuckled. "No way. If I didn't care, I wouldn't be tucking you in right now, would I?"
He sat at the edge of her bed, looking at her.
"Even if you're bossy and short-tempered, you've always been the one person who was there for me when I was a loser."
After making sure Kiara was sound asleep, Nic stepped out with a small smile. Before shutting the door, he called softly, "Don't forget to shower. I already warmed the water."
Kiara cracked one eye open, watching his retreating back. Her gaze shifted to a framed photo of the two of them as kids hanging on the wall. She smiled faintly.
"Nic, you're starting to grow up, huh?"
---
That night, Kiara suddenly invited Nic to go out.
"Come on, we're going somewhere."
Nic sighed. "Why do I have to come?"
Kiara pinched his cheek. "Shut up and follow me!"
With no further complaint, Nic followed her. They arrived at a small, cozy café that was surprisingly lively. Inside, Kiara's friends were already seated—with their younger siblings in tow.
"What is this, exactly?" Nic whispered, already checking his phone.
Another pinch on the cheek. "No phones! Just watch!"
One by one, Kiara's friends introduced their siblings. When it was her turn, Kiara patted Nic's shoulder.
"This is my little brother, Nic."
One of her friend's siblings, a muscular teen, smirked.
"This is your brother? Kinda looks like a wimp."
Kiara glanced at Nic, worried he'd lash out or feel humiliated. But Nic only smiled calmly.
"You think you're better than me?" he replied coolly.
The teen chuckled. "Let's arm wrestle then. Right here. Let everyone see who the real wimp is."
Nic shrugged. "Sure."
Kiara was stunned by his confidence. Her friend, Gisel, smiled.
"You think your brother can beat mine?"
Kiara folded her arms. "Well... we'll see."
Arm Wrestling Match
They moved a table to the center of the café. Nic and the teen sat across from each other. The crowd gathered to watch.
The match began. The teen immediately applied pressure, pushing Nic's hand close to the table.
"Come on, is that all?" he mocked.
But Nic's hand held firm. His expression remained relaxed.
Kiara's eyes widened. "Is he… holding back?"
After a tense moment, Nic smirked coldly. "Want me to get serious? Fine."
In one swift motion, Nic slammed the teen's hand onto the table. The match ended in an instant. Nic stood up without saying a word.
As Kiara opened her mouth to praise him, Nic said flatly, "If you don't believe in me, don't call me your brother."
Without waiting for a response, he left.
Gisel looked confused. "Are you two fighting?"
Kiara smiled weakly. "No... he's just in a bad mood, I guess."
Outside the Café
Nic sat alone on a bench outside, enjoying the cool night air. He sent Kiara a message:
"I'm not going home. I'll wait outside. Don't follow me. Just focus on your friends."
As he sat there, a cold-looking girl approached him. She seemed lost.
"Excuse me... Can you help me? I'm lost and don't know how to get home."
Nic stared at her for a moment, then nodded. "Sure. Where do you need to go?"
That short conversation marked the beginning of something unexpected.
They walked through dim, narrow alleyways. Suddenly, the girl spun around and covered Nic's mouth. Before he could react, everything went black.
---
Nic awoke in a dark, messy room. His hands and feet were tied to a chair. The girl was talking to a burly, tattooed man nearby. Around them stood several rough-looking men—clearly gang members.
Nic stayed calm and assessed the situation. The gang leader approached and tore the tape off his mouth.
"What do you want?" Nic asked coldly.
The girl answered with a thin smile. "You're free to go if you send us 100 million. If not... well, it's up to them."
Nic stared at her, then replied, "Untie me. Give me my phone. I'll transfer it. You can watch me to make sure I don't call the cops."
After a brief discussion, they agreed. Nic was untied and handed his phone. He entered the account number they gave him and transferred the money.
As the gang celebrated, distracted by the transaction, they didn't notice Nic slowly reach for a metal pipe nearby.
He struck one thug unconscious, shocking the rest. A fight broke out, but Nic moved swiftly—one by one, they fell.
Only the boss remained. Nic bashed his leg, causing him to collapse, then delivered a solid kick to his head.
Now, only the girl remained. She trembled in a corner, pale with fear. Nic glared at her and quickly refunded the transfer to himself.
"Why'd you do this?" he asked, his voice low and firm.
She couldn't answer. Nic smashed a cardboard box nearby, making her flinch.
"You weren't afraid tying me up earlier. Why are you shaking now? Speak!"
Finally, the girl stammered, "I... I had no choice. I needed the money. My grandma's sick and I have no one left."
Nic sighed deeply and messaged Kiara:
"I'll be home late. Don't wait up. I'm getting picked up by a friend."
He turned back to the girl. "Take me to the hospital where your grandma is."
She nodded fearfully and led him out of the building. Before they left, Nic sent the location to the police, reporting the kidnapping.
---
At the Hospital
Once they arrived, the girl showed him her grandma's room. Nic went straight to the reception desk and paid all the medical fees.
The girl was stunned. Tears streamed down her face. "Why would you do this? You don't even know me."
Nic replied, "Name's Nic. I just hate seeing people fall into despair."
The girl, who introduced herself as Violet, sobbed and apologized.
"I didn't know what else to do... I swear I'll never do this again."
"How long have you been like this?" Nic asked.
Violet shook her head. "This is the first time. They promised me a lot of money to kidnap someone."
"Are you still in school?" he asked.
Violet looked down. "No... I dropped out. No money."
Nic thought for a moment. His mind drifted to his system—he wondered if something new would unlock after getting a fifth girlfriend.
With a serious tone, he asked, "Want to be my girlfriend?"
Violet's eyes widened, cheeks flushed. "W-What? Are you serious? I almost got you killed!"
"I'm not joking. If you say yes, I'll pay for your education. If not, I'll still help you. It's up to you."
After a long silence, Violet smiled and nodded. "Okay... but why would you want me?"
Nic shrugged. "If you're fine with it, I don't mind either."
Violet hugged him tightly, tears flowing again. But when Nic added, "You'd be the fifth," she pulled back.
"Fifth? You already have others?"
Nic looked at her calmly. "If that bothers you, I won't force you."
Violet shook her head. "No. I don't mind. I'll be your girlfriend."
Nic nodded. After handling everything, he walked home. On the way, a small smile played on his lips.
"Five girlfriends now, huh? I wonder what new system I'll unlock next."
To be continued...
