Chronicles of the Time Machine: Unveiling of the Forgotten era (COTM)

Chapter 10: SHAYAN

On a fresh and chilly morning, Gens invited Fesly to become his primary member. Fesly responded with a cautionary message—asking why Gens chose her, and reminding him to be careful with such serious matters. Despite the weight of the conversation, Gens appeared carefree and unaware, not realizing that the tragedy between his father and Kioni started because his father openly supported his martial arts training.

"So what, Fes? Why are you being so cautious? You know I've already defeated one of the geniuses, right?"

Gens asked arrogantly, full of confidence.

Fesly remained silent, refusing to respond. Gens looked at her with innocent confusion as the mood shifted into a deep silence, as if the world itself went mute.

Gens called her name repeatedly, "Fes! Fes!" Then, Fesly grabbed his hand and pulled him out of the house, running toward an unknown destination.

Eventually, they arrived.

"Fesly! What do you want? Why did you bring me here?"

Gens asked.

"Don't you get it, Gens? Just look around. It's dark, filled with trees, and…"

Fesly's words were cut off by Gens.

"Yes! That's enough—I understand… There's no AI network out here, right? You brought me here for my safety, didn't you? You're worried because I invited you to join… No—because I carelessly spoke without assessing the situation first. You're afraid that invisible AI surveillance might be listening, right? Don't worry. I already realized that!"

Gens explained.

"Then why did you still do it, you idiot?! I'm worried! You know I'm Kioni's daughter! One of the geniuses who created those AIs and robots!"

Fesly shouted at Gens.

But Gens calmly claimed that he did it on purpose, because he had already devised a brilliant plan. He said this with a deeply confident gaze.

After that, Gens began implementing his plan by visiting various regions to find suitable targets to recruit.

30 minutes before Gens set out:

"How exactly are you going to do this, Gens? You realize if you do this openly, the geniuses might capture you!"

Fesly warned.

Gens thought to himself—why did she think like that? Just earlier, he had secretly signaled to her that he was intentionally trying to provoke the geniuses to notice his actions. But clearly, she didn't understand. So, Gens changed his recruitment strategy to ease her worries.

"Of course, Fes! I'm not as reckless as you think! I'll observe them first—where they are, and which places they frequent. Once I know those things, I'll post paper flyers in the area!"

Gens said confidently, like he already understood how everything worked.

"W-why are you so confident?! Why paper posters? And how will you know if someone is a potential recruit?"

Fesly asked, clearly concerned.

"Simple. The geniuses rely too much on AI. They gather all their info through it—even their surveillance uses AI. If I recruit people openly, they'll immediately catch me! Because, like we're talking calmly here like teens in a romance drama… the truth is, someone—maybe even a hundred people—might be watching us right now."

Gens answered calmly again, as if he'd already mastered the world.

"D-did you not think about the fact that CCTV cameras have AI too?! They could detect your posters!"

Fesly cried out.

"Yes… but I'm reducing the risk. There's only about a 70% chance that'll happen. To identify potential members, I just need to observe their behavior, posture, facial expression, and other subtle signs—even ones I don't fully understand,"

Gens said, subtly hinting that this conversation was more dangerous than the posters.

Fesly went quiet, simply staring. She realized how hard it was to live in this era—how hard it was to simply find privacy. They had to travel far, even into forests, just to avoid the network.

That day, Gens continued scouting many areas. While it was difficult to find suitable people, he did find a few that matched the criteria. This gave him hope—little by little, but hope nonetheless.

As evening fell, Gens and Fesly decided to return home and rest.

"Gens! Don't you think that's enough for today?"

Fesly asked, her concern as deep as the ocean.

"Ah… there she goes again, worrying about me… (he thought). You're right, Fesly. Let's go home!"

Gens responded.

That night, Gens immediately fell into a deep, peaceful sleep. Fesly felt relieved seeing him finally resting well, but still worried about his recklessness and naivety.

However, during his dream, Gens began to sweat and show signs of distress.

"AAAAAAGHHHHH!!!"

Gens screamed, waking up in terror.

"W-what's going on, Gens?!"

Fesly shouted, rushing into his room.

"I-I had a… a dream…"

Gens muttered, eyes wide with fear.

"A bad dream?"

Fesly asked.

"W-wet…"

Gens said, still shaken.

"Y-you're CRAZY!!"

Fesly screamed, smacking their foreheads together.

"W-what's wrong with you, Fesly… aghh... I-I dreamed… my body was drenched in blood… from my own followers… who died… but… died how?"

Gens, usually calm, now trembled like the world was shaking beneath him.

Fesly sat quietly, trying to calm him.

"It was just a dream…"

That same night, in the place where the geniuses gathered...

A group of geniuses stared at a massive screen.

"Hehehe... look, looks like there's a kid who's going against what we've built,"

one genius said.

"Tch... should we give them a title? For the thousandth time? Hahahaha!"

another replied.

"Of course! It's boring if they die without a name. Otherwise, it's like swatting at the wind,"

another added.

"Ugh... fine. I'll come up with a cool name for them…"

one of them grumbled.

"NO! This time, I'll name them! I've already decided!"

one genius declared.

"Haa… how rare of you. So, what's their name? Ha ha ha."

another asked smugly.

"Systemic Hunter and Annihilator for Y-AI Networks... or simply, SHAYAN."
