Chapter 11: Chapter 11: Truth, Lesson, and Opportunity II

Everything was ranked from one to ten, with one being the worst and ten being the best. There was also a chance of decimals, functionally making it a one to one hundred scale but simplified.

The first thing he looked at was his classes. Although he knew what path he would take in the long run he was till curious and to his surprise he was right. His talent as a mage edged out his talent for a warrior, with his mage talent being a 9.5 while his warriors talent was an 8.6. An almost full point difference!

With his potential being block, he did not know how exactly his mage talent related to his potential; but he did understand that going the route of a mage class was his best bet to reach his peak.

The next thing he looked over were the affinities he was the most connected to. This list was far more exhaustive than any of the other two with their being over a hundred affinities, but most of those outside of the top five where below three points and were therefore not worth mentioning.

His top five affinities were: One, Ice at 10 points; Two, Water at 7.3 points; Three, Space at 6.8 points; Four, nature at 4.4 points; and Five, Time at 3.5 points.

It was mostly what he expected, most of his affinities were tied to his bloodline, the Space-Time Destroyer bloodline. An incredibly and rare branch bloodline from his families Lightening Destroyer bloodline. It was also the reason that he was more talented at being a mage than a warrior and why he had any amount of talent with both the Space and Time elements.

Two elements that were exceptionally rare in the world, especially the Time element. One that was almost unheard of for someone below the level of 25 to have. Mostly because it was known that one needed to be able to understand the fundamental laws of a realm to even get a glimpse at it. And it was still impossibly hard to do so without some type of help, even Richard needed the help of the Eternal Dragon to be able to use it. It was safe to say he was more than satisfied with his elemental affinities.

He moved onto the last list that was presented to him, the list of professions. When he had learned about professions in this world he had been surprised to know that there were many more than what was talked about in the book. In the book there was a heavy focus on Rune Master; for good reason, as it was the most powerful of them and it was the reason that Norland had it's current prestige and power. It was also, unsurprisingly, the most developed of any of the professions. There were minor mentions of Alchemy and weaponsmiths (and armorsmiths), the next two most notable professions after Runes. They were developed, yet nowhere near where they could be. They were more developed in the other races, the Elves and dwarf specifically. There were also totems -essentially removable runes- for the Barbarians. Though, again, they were still not as developed as runes as neither one of these races focused on them like the humans did the runes.

After the Alchemy and smithing there were a slew of more minor magical professions. Like tailoring, tamer, herbalist and so many more. The list went on and on. All of them far more underdeveloped than they could be. This intrigued him greatly, and one day he would see to it that this gap was made up. Even though he did not think that they could even reach the current heights of Alchemy at their greatest, that did not mean they would not greatly improve the ability of Human's to survive and thrive in the infinite planes. Any little bit help, even more so when the battlefields of despair were considered. The slightest of edges could tip the scales dramatically.

He would go into a profession, he knew this the moment he was born into this world and when he gained True Sight it only cemented his path, now he just needed to know which one he should focus on. Like the other list this one was broken down similarly, there were tens of professions but he only focused on the top three as those were the ones that interested him the most. And he was truly surprised by the results.

His list was as such: First, Alchemy at 9.5 points; Second, Runes at 8.5 points; lastly Portalist at 7.6 points.

This threw him off. With the revelation of Truth Sight, he figured he would have decent potential with runes at the least, but he did not think his talent in Alchemy would be even higher; nor did he think that either of them would be so high! At the most he expected to receive a six or seven, and that would be very generous. For both to be in the so high was astronomical and opened up his paths considerably, and at the same time made his life much much harder.

Out of the three professions he immediately dropped the last one, he had no interest being a Portalist. They were the people who made and maintained the portals to the planes that were use for travel and conquest, as well as keeping the coordinates for Norland and other assigned planes. It was a noble job and was essential for anyone that wanted to dive into the infinite planes. It was also one that was easily forgotten since good Portalist were as common as dwarves in a mine or elves in a forest. The information to travel the planes had been disseminated so widely that it was almost common knowledge. It was too the point where most powerful families either had their members learn it themselves or trained internally for it. It would not serve his needs in the slightest.

That left him with the other two options. On paper Runes was the obvious choice. If he came out with an exceptional talent in Runes the world would be handed to him on a silver platter. He would receive resource his other siblings could only dream of and he was sure that his father would devote everything for him to reach his max potential. Even if the best he could achieve was a Rank two runes and the occasional rank three rune, like their current Runemaster Lunor, he would still be incredibly valuable.

Then their was Alchemy. A path that he could see reaching the heights of Runes if given a fair shot at developing it. He had done some research into Alchemy and had come to learn that even a simple healing potion did not exist and outside of that all of alchemy revolved around potions. No one had thought to invent any different types, like pills, or tinctures or even something as simple as powders. With his potential as high as it was, he was sure he could accomplish some magnificent things in the profession. If he was truly being ambitious, he was sure he could become to Alchemy what Saint Peter and his Midren sets have become to Runes.

To him, it was just as tempting as walking the path of runes was, if not more so. In the back of his mind though, there ware the beasts of greed and pride that were clawing their way forward, speaking of things near impossible. Forcing ideas in his mind that only a fool would think. A path that was truly unconventional and almost certainly near impossible. One that could put him on a path of ruin, but should he accomplish it, would leave his name in history above the like of Saint Peter or any other powerhouse that has ever walked this realm.

The more he thought about it the more it appealed to him, the more he hungered for it. He had been reborn in this world, it wouldn't due to just change the world, he needed to reshape it. And this path would allow him to do just that, but the risk of failure was so high that it halted him from truly choosing.

"My Prince?" a voice tentatively called out to him from the other room, pulling him from his rumination. He chuckled to himself when he realized he had just been staring at himself in the mirror for who knows how long. Anyone who saw him would think him the most vain boy who ever lived and in some ways they would be right.

He halted his True Sight and made his way out of his spare room he arrived into his bedroom to see his Steward William peaking his head through the door.
