Chapter 6: Young Dragon encounter
Wands are special. They contain a number of charges of a unique spell. They are usually found at dungeons and you must identify them. Some stores sell them at a hefty price, but you know what they are immediately.
I don't think the thug knew what the spell on his wand was. When the effect came in place, he was smiling like a mad man.
[The wand in Thief's hand shines!]
[The wand summons a Yougling Dragon! (LV 39)!]
Shit! That is a Young Dragon! They are less powerful thana grown one, but they are a problem!
Kathrina gasps and quickly takes a step further to get herself in front of the unconscious man and the beast.
And I am paralized.
I have found these things in my save. Amber can kill them with ease with the right equipment.
But... I am seeing a massive lizard in front of me. I swallow saliva while looking up at the thing looking back at me.
What wand was it? There are only a couple types that can do that...
It has green scales, yellow eyes... It only reached halfway through the trees, but it was enormous for us.
"Haha... Hahahahaha!" The thief turns towards us, smiling like a mad man. "This is what you get for getting into other people's busi-"
The dragon lowers it's head and in one bite grabs him. Only his feet were left in the ground.
[Young Dragon devoures Thief in one swoop!]
Shit! For a moment I thought he used a [Summon Ally] wand... It was a [Summon Creature] wand. That one gives you zero control over the summons and is dangerous to use without a mean to escape.
Kathrine holds her sword in one hand and I see a shield appear on her other hand.
Ah, so that is a thing.
I need to check my equipment fast! I don't kow if I am equiped for this!
She takes a menacing step forward, placing the shield in front of herself.
"I-I never fought a giant lizard like this, but I will protect the innocent!" She screams.
I can see her expression falther. I commend her once more for not running away.
But there is no way for her to cause damage to it unless her sword has some magic or elemental damage with proper resistance penetration. Even her shield has a risk of getting melted once it breaths.
But if I can make equipment appear...
I look at my right hand. There is one green ring in there.
[Defending Jade ring of Resistance]
[Made of Jade]
[+230 Defense]
[+20 Magic resistance] [+15 Sound resistance] [+18 Fire resistance] [+12 Cold resiatance] [+5 Chaos resistance] [+10 Temporal Flux resistance]
One of my defensive rings... Good but not what I want right now. I know I have another one...
A list of rings appear on the screen... And I look for it quickly.
Then the creature breathes towards Kathrina.
In a flick, I cast [Magic shield] on her once more. For a moment I forgot I am not playing the game and I am in real life.
The game is turn based, so I can take my time making choices... Here no one waits for your turn.
"Mother Ellen, protect your chile with your shield!" She screams.
She puts her shield between herself and the fire breath. I see a light appear in front of her, blocking the fire!
I hide behind a treet to avoid getting burned.
[Kathrina creates a Holy Shield in front of herself! It deflects Young Dragon's Fire Breath! Kathrina is unharmed!]
What did she just do? I thought I knew the repertoire of spells and skills the NPCs could have... Although I never interacted that much with the Malkor's Eagles.
The fire goes through the snow and dead plants, smelting and burning its way. I can feel it scorching heat but thanks to the resistances in my equipment, I can stand it more than I normally would without them.
I still don't want to be hit by it.
I look back at my hand and see the list again. I look for the ring...
My hand is shaking.
I can feel my heart beating extremely hard... It is hot... Too hot. It is getting hard to breath...
Am I having a panic attack?
"Raaaahhhh!" Kathrina screams.
I look at her, unscathed, jumping at the beast and swinging her ehavy weapon. It bounces in contact. Not strong enough to penetrate.
[Kathina's sword bounces against Young Dragon's scales!]
The beast swings it's front paw and manages to hit her. She puts the shield in the middle, but atill recieves the blunt of it.
Her body gets launched against the tree I am hiding, and goes through the burned wood.
[Young Dragon hits Kathrina! She is Critically wounded! Young Dragon's Paw pushes Kathrina! She hits a tree! She hits a tree! She is Critically wounded!]
"Aaagh!" She screams in pain
She hits another tree, stopping her and causing more damage.
The tree I was hiding at was cut when she passed through it. I did not notice when I ducked for cover, I am crouching and holding my head.
I look up and see her in the ground. Blood coming from her scalp and dripping from her scalp. She is trying to stand up again.
A warm air hits the back of my head...
I turn around...
And I am met with two yellow eyes piercing through me.
To be sincere. When I came in I did it thinking this was going to be like the game. But seeing the thing with my own eyes in front of me is not the same. I can feel it, see it smell it. And that thing can too.
The it takes air with it's mouth. Smoke comes out of its nosetrils.
[It breaths...]
I close my eyes thinking I am going to die once more.
The heat of the fire sureounds me... But it is not hurting me.
I open my eyes.
[You get harmed by the Young Dragon's Breath (-250) (-276) (-310)! You are basically unscathed! Your resistance prevents Burned Status!]
The fire is hitting me... Yet I am barely feeling it. It hurts... But it is not a mortal pain or excrussiating.
When I see well, I can see my HP going lower... But it is in low amounts.
The beast stops breathing its fire at me and is surprised I am safe and sound.
Why am I not dead?
... Then it is like the game... I must be wearing my defensive set.
Clarity returns to me. But I don't have time to think. It is swinging its paw at me!
"Hah!" Kathrina screams and she gets in the way!
[Kathrina blocks Young Dragon's claws with her shield! It is a well timed block! Young Dragon's attack bounces off Kathrina's shield!]
With her shield, she parries the claw and makes it bounce.
"No one is dying under my watch!" She screams and sets a firm foot in the ground.
I don't have time to admire her. I stand up and slep myself with both hands.
I need to take this seriously. I know I have the firepower to deal with this thing.
With a firm grip, I grab my sword's shaft and pull it out of its scabbard. Time to use my secret weapon!
