Inside the AV, two armed guards from Kang Tao's American branch, equipped with Defender machine guns, were nervously watching the door.
They were ready to pull the trigger the moment the attacker appeared, turning them into a sieve.
Meanwhile, Hellman, who hadn't managed to escape, was cowering behind his seat, trembling with fear since the AV's emergency landing.
"Just hold on a little longer! Our backup will arrive soon!"
"Yeah, take turns shooting, keep your eyes peeled!"
As the tension between the two armed guards reached its peak, a round object suddenly rolled in from outside.
Both guards felt their hearts skip a beat.
"Grenade!"
The moment they heard that word, their blood ran cold.
There was no time to inspect what it was.
They bolted out of the AV.
While running outside might mean death, staying put meant certain doom from the explosion!
Hellman, on the other hand, felt a warm sensation in his lap as he wet himself in fear.
This was it.
No escape.
Weren't these people here for him?
Why would they toss a grenade inside under these circumstances?
"Grumbling..."
The "grenade" rolled to a stop in front of Hellman.
Hellman's vision blurred with fear, nearly causing him to faint.
Until he realized what was in front of him...
"???"
Though not a combatant, as a native of Night City, he recognized the appearance of grenades.
What lay before him wasn't a grenade at all—it was an environmental sensor from a combat robot!
Damn! He's been duped!
As if to confirm his suspicions, two screams echoed from outside the AV.
There was no need to guess—it was the two armed guards who had bolted.
"I'm dying of laughter; those two fools really bought it!"
"This trick works like a charm; sometimes brains are better than brawn."
Alex Carter and Panam strolled into the AV, chatting.
Alex had employed this tactic with similarly shaped objects as fake grenades multiple times in his past life.
It worked like a charm every time.
"Why does it smell so bad in here?" Panam asked, wrinkling her nose.
Alex didn't reply, instead turning his attention to Hellman, who seemed to be in shock, with a mocking smile.
"Hellman, right? Scared you, huh? Just a little scared?"
Hearing Alex's teasing tone, Hellman knew there was no hiding, so he peeked out from his hiding spot and asked:
"Who are you? Do you know the consequences of crossing Kang Tao?"
Seeing Hellman still acting arrogant, Alex kept his smile.
But inside, he was itching to take him down.
Hellman had been a turncoat, playing both sides between Arasaka and Kang Tao before crawling back to Arasaka.
It was his return that led to the tragic end of V and Misty's psychic haven.
Back then, Alex wanted to shoot him on sight.
But the game didn't allow it.
However, things were different now!
"Come on, are you walking out on your own, or do I have to knock you out and drag you?"
"Don't bother, I'll come." Hellman snorted, stood up, and walked out of the AV.
Looking at the wet patch on Hellman's pants, Alex couldn't help but admire his gall.
If it were him, he would've offed himself out of shame.
Yet Hellman walked out proudly, as if saying, "I wet myself, and I'm proud."
"Whoa, did he really wet himself?"
Seeing Hellman, Panam, arms crossed at the AV's entrance, couldn't help but laugh.
Hearing this, Hellman's face turned dark.
"You homeless scum, you have..."
"Smack!"
A crisp slap echoed.
Before Hellman could finish, Alex slapped him out of the AV.
Alex crouched beside Hellman, who lay sprawled on the ground.
"You're such a fool. I've wanted to slap that mouth of yours for so long, and you didn't disappoint."
"Panam, could you give us a moment?"
Though puzzled, Panam followed Alex's request and busied herself with the AV.
Meanwhile, Alex got to work.
He tied Hellman up and approached the body of a nearby armed guard.
Soon, a pair of black men's underwear was in his hands.
Rolling it into a ball, Alex stuffed it into Hellman's mouth.
"Mmmph..."
"Let's see you run your mouth now!"
Alex dusted off his hands contentedly.
Johnny appeared beside him at that moment.
"If there were more wicked people like you, those loudmouths would definitely quiet down."
"Don't talk nonsense, I'm a good person," Alex said, carrying Hellman over to the Outlaw.
"Oh, sure," Johnny smirked, dissolving into a stream of data and disappearing from Alex's sight.
After dealing with Hellman, Alex opened a communication line.
"Alex? Any progress?" Takemura Goro's voice came through.
Alex nodded, "I've got him. Meet me at the Sunset Motel at noon."
Hearing the news, a hint of joy flashed across Takemura's face.
"Thank you so much! See you at noon."
"See you at noon."
Hanging up, Alex called for Panam, ready to leave this place of chaos.
Just then, a chaotic roar of engines could be heard in the distance...
