Chapter 9: 9
These monsters also pounced on John Smith frantically, and he swung his axe with fervor. Every monster hit by the axe turned into particles that scattered in the air, colorful and gorgeous.
He relied solely on his axe to carve his way through these monsters. Even if the monsters weren't directly struck by him, they would transform into colorful particles and float in the air after being hit.
Soon John broke through the blockade of the monsters and strode towards the direction of the pool. He felt his consciousness becoming more and more blurred, the colors around him becoming more vivid, and the passage elongating as if there was no end.
The little people on the ground were dancing hand in hand, as if celebrating his successful escape. The strange souls in the air also waved their tentacles, cheering for him as well.
But at this moment, his steps became weak, as if he were walking on cotton, and he staggered. This made him feel in a trance that he might not be able to hold on any longer.
But how could he give up like this? So many ghosts couldn't stop him, so how could he fall down at the end?
John gritted his teeth and continued to move forward. In the dim light, he seemed to see the garden again. It turned out that he was already outside the garden.
He staggered to the edge of the pool, then collapsed beside it, burying his entire face in the water, and instinctively began to drink in big gulps.
As he drank, he found that he had no strength to get up. He was suddenly surrounded by a feeling of suffocation and a sense of absurdity. Was he going to drown by the pool instead of dying on the road?
But at this moment, he felt a sharp pain on his face, as if something had torn off half of it. This made him raise his head reflexively, and his face immediately came out of the water.
Looking at the world in front of him that was so bright it seemed unreal, the blurry drops of blood falling on the ground made him realize that it was not just the feeling of his face being torn apart; it was really torn apart.
The next moment he could no longer hold on. His eyes went dark and he fell directly to the ground, completely losing consciousness. The tall flowers, plants, and trees around him returned to their original state, the little people on the ground burrowed into the soil, and the twisted souls in the air disappeared.
When John woke up again, he first looked around at everything. He could vaguely recall how he came here.
If he guessed correctly, he was poisoned by eating the dog, and he recovered after drinking the pool water.
Thinking of this, he quickly looked at his right hand, which was intact! He touched his face and found that it had also recovered.
It was as if he had never been bitten at all. If it weren't for the torn clothes on his right arm, he would have thought that being chased by a dog and bitten by a fish was just an illusion.
If John remembered correctly, everything around him became very big at that time, with strong color contrast, and little people and twisted souls appeared. These all appeared after eating the monsters here.
So the monsters here should all be poisonous, and these toxins can cause people to have hallucinations, and this pool of water can not only detoxify but also restore the injured body.
However, this poisoning was not completely without benefits. He finally overcame his fear of the dungeon and the monsters in the hallucination, and gained the courage to break through without hesitation even when facing invincible monsters.
John did not rest here for too long. He had to move on. This was not his destination, and he had to find edible food, even if it was the breadfruit from the man-eating tree.
However, this time he did not go through the passage of the man-eating tree. Instead, he returned to the secret door and gave a gentle push with his hand. Then the wall flipped over.
He followed the same path back to the place where he met the dog, and picked up the rusty sword on the way. Although it was not as sharp as an axe, it was longer.
After walking along this passage for a while, he did not encounter that terrible dog again, but even if he encountered it again, he would not turn around and run away, but would rush up to fight it.
Just when John was wondering why there were no monsters on this road, a humanoid monster with a bull's head suddenly appeared in his sight.
This made him alert instantly, and he immediately picked up the bow and arrow and aimed at the monster, but the monster did not move at all and just kept muttering to itself.
He slowly approached the monster with a bow and arrow, wanting to see what the monster was doing, but just as he got closer, the monster suddenly looked at him.
John almost shot an arrow at it, but fortunately, the monster didn't move, so he didn't attack the monster rashly.
"Why did you come here?" the monster asked. John slowly put down his bow and arrow after hearing it. This was the first monster he met in the dungeon that he could communicate with.
After thinking for a while, he said truthfully, "Because our family is cursed, no one in the generation will live beyond 30 years old, so I came here to lift the curse."
"So that's how it is. Then do you know why I am here?" the monster asked again. John couldn't help but complain in his heart, how should I know why you came here?
But he didn't say that because this monster was too strange, and who knew if talking nonsense would anger it and cause unnecessary trouble.
So John shook his head and said, "I don't know." "You are a very real young man. You speak the truth and don't make random guesses about things you don't know. I admire you very much."
The monster paused for a moment, then continued, "So I decided to ask you a question. If your answer satisfies me, I will give you my blessing."
"Ask," John said, not relaxing his vigilance at all. Who knows if this monster was deliberately acting so friendly in order to make him relax his guard.
The monster nodded and said, "Is this world real?"
John didn't expect it to ask such a profound question. After thinking for a while, he said, "For me, this world is real. I have past memories, I used to have a family, and now I have some friends. They are all real to me."
He paused and continued, "Everything I am experiencing now is happening right now. Maybe in the eyes of some beings, we are like a movie that can be fast-forwarded or slowed down, but for me, there is only forward movement and no backward movement, so this world is real to me."
"Young man, you have a strong will and will not be easily shaken in your beliefs. I see my own past in you. I hope that one day you will be able to see the whole world like my master."
The monster continued with a deep look in his eyes: "I have to go where I should go. This is just a part of the journey, but I will always keep an eye on you. Good luck will be with you... My name is, The Thinker."
As soon as the words fell, the monster disappeared on the spot, and a green beam of light enveloped John, and a feeling of comfort instantly spread throughout his body.
At this moment, the ethereal voice rang in his ears again.
"Due to the influence of unknown forces, you have become lucky."
"Due to the influence of an unknown force, you have mutated and your cells have become active."
"Due to the influence of an unknown force, you have learned a magic spell: Charge attack; the longer the charge time, the higher the attack power. The current level is 1. You can upgrade after killing a certain number of ghosts."
