Chapter 4715: Chapter 3789: Peril in the Dark City (15)
But what's even more surprising to everyone is the other figure stepping out of the Batmobile. Opening the car door and getting out, Shiller places his hat on his head and pulls a gun out from inside his coat.
"Long time no see, Night Owl." He looks at Night Owl, who is sitting in a chair suspended in mid-air, and says, "Strange, isn't it, how I ended up here?"
"It's you." Night Owl squints his eyes at him. He now confirms that the Shiller in front of him is the same agent he was paired with in the last mission.
He was just about to say something when he saw the barrel of a gun already pointed at him.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Shiller fires three shots. Night Owl rolls behind the chair to dodge. Instinctively, he turns his head to look at Mad Laugh, only to see a strong silhouette with an indescribable sense of oppression leap high then land. Before Mad Laugh could swing the chain in his hand, a metallic-glossed fist had already come crashing down.
"Boom!"
The slender, pale figure is knocked straight into the air. Arkham Batman closes in again, following up with another punch, sending Mad Laugh flying into the air, then his elbow hammers down fiercely. "Crack!" The ribs shatter entirely. Mad Laugh sputters a mouthful of blood. Arkham Batman lands another punch, scattering Mad Laugh's teeth all over.
Night Owl swallows hard.
He doesn't stay hidden for long before turning back only to see Shiller's fist slicing past the edge of his head. He dodges to the right, and Shiller sidekicks him, sending him flying out.
"Wait!" Night Owl shouts, "We can talk!"
"Bang!" Shiller shoots Night Owl in the chest. The bullet pierces through his lung, silencing him momentarily. Realizing the other really intends to kill him, he scrambles to his feet and pulls out his dart.
Beside him, Dark King Batman also stands up, cracking his knuckles. Just as he is about to select a suitable target, he notices another figure step out from the Batmobile with the most classic Batman appearance. Night Owl recognizes at once that it's the Prime Universe Batman.
In the blink of an eye, three darts fly out. Dark King Batman roars and jumps down from mid-air, clashing with Prime Universe Batman.
The last figure to step out seems out of place in this world, so pale as if about to turn transparent. But as soon as he steps onto this land, endless darkness and chaos spread out.
A massive black tentacle suddenly appears, curling towards empty space and then slamming down fiercely.
"Boom!"
A semi-transparent phantom is caught by the tentacle and smashed onto the ground, letting out a wretched scream. The owner of the tentacle reveals a pale smile, the bloodless lips moving almost imperceptibly: "Got you."
At the moment the phantom hits the ground, the church where Batman and Shiller are standing trembles abruptly.
This interrupts Batman's chanting. He has to look up and ask, "What's going on? An earthquake???"
Shiller suddenly bursts into laughter, saying, "The plan worked."
Batman looks over at him. Shiller recalls when the agent led Greed and Arrogant to find him.
The memory bank of the Tower of Thought is vast, categorized and extensive. As soon as you enter, turn left to find the librarian's office. The agent, with Greed and Arrogant, knocked on the door of the office, which was opened by a similarly young Shiller.
He looks unremarkable and unassuming, his student-like black-framed glasses making him even more inconspicuous, just like the kind of bookworm you'd see outside the library every night.
"What's up?" he asks.
"A bit of trouble," the agent says, "Let's go inside and talk."
After a moment, the agent looks at the other and says, "That's the situation. We might need you to go up and stall for a while so that we can get reinforcements."
"I see." The other pushes up his glasses and says, "That shouldn't be a problem. From what you've said, I already have an idea of how to break the situation. But let me be clear, I'll only go up for a while, and when you resolve the matters in the real world, someone else takes over."
"No problem. If not for your 'inspiration' in mysticism being best suited to handle such strange situations, we wouldn't have bothered you," the agent says, "And don't waste too much time talking to those Batmans; they're all mysticism-blind."
"Like you?"
"Like me."
Watching inspiration ride the elevator to the surface of awareness, the agent begins delegating tasks. He says, "Even in the mission, we can travel through the Kingdom of Dreams to reach our bodies. I'll go find the Batman of the Arkham Knight Universe, Arrogant will find the one of the Prime Universe, and Greed will find the Evil God Batman. Any issues?"
"I thought you'd have come up with some clever solution." Greed can't help but mock, "Turns out it's just calling for reinforcements."
"Hah, if the two of you could go in person, I wouldn't need to find Batman." The agent says as he descends, "It's clear that those trapped can't break the situation themselves, so we'll have to find a way from outside the scene. Who told them to use outside-the-box moves first?"
The three head to the Kingdom of Dreams to borrow the path. The agent surfaces from his body's awareness, feeling unprecedented tranquility.
Since floating up with Arrogant and Greed, he somewhat understands why the Superego doesn't allow additional floating in normal times. Over the past few hours, he has wanted countless times to punch himself, to make himself shut up.
Shiller once again uses the Kingdom of Dreams to reach the universe of Arkham Batman. He lands in Gotham, the weather still gloomy, but at least there's no gunfire. As soon as he steps out, he sees a group of National Guard soldiers patrolling the street.
