Days of my Life: REWRITE

Chapter 5: STRANGE DREAM

Kakashi spent his evening carefully filling out the application form; there were some tricky questions that he didn't fully understand, so he skipped them.

It was already getting late, so he folded the clothes on the bed beside the window and kept them on the other bed. He sat on the bed, staring out the window, just watching some of the students walk around the pathway, from building to building. The lamppost did a good illuminating the place, there were even some students sitting on the benches.

Kakashi stood up and walked to the bathroom, took his bath and came back to lie down on the bed. It was the first time he was going to sleep on a mattress for the past six years.

At the lab, they were grouped into two to share a blanket that was laid on the floor. It was always hot at night, especially during the summer, so Kakashi always took off his shirt before going to sleep even though Megumin tried to stop him.

Kakashi rested his head on the pillow, gazing at the night sky through his window, his mind was filled with thoughts of his sister, thinking of what she might be doing until he finally dozed off.

---

"I didn't do it!" Kenshin said, trying to stay calm. "Why would I do something as disgraceful as that."

"It's a lie, I saw him! He was the last person in father's room!" A little boy said pointing at him.

"I'm sorry prince, but we'll have to search your room then." an elderly man said.

"That's absurd! Are you saying I'm a thief?!" Kakashi yelled, the accusation was starting to get on his nerves. "Are you calling your soon-to-be king a thief?!, You could get killed for this accusation"

Two heavily bodied men grabbed Kakashi from behind and pushed him down on his knees, while the rest searched the room. Kakashi struggled but he couldn't break himself free from their grip.

"Stop this foolishness at once!" Kakashi ordered but no one listened to him.

The little boy quickly ran into his room and pointed to a corner of the ceiling.

"Check there, I'm sure he hid it there."

"What??" Kakashi watched in awe as the guard opened the ceiling brought out a parcel and unwrapped it.

"It's the holy sword." the guard announced.

"I had always known he was a thief." a middle-aged man said.

"I'm telling the truth, I didn't do it!!!" Kakashi shouted, but no matter how loud his voice was they didn't listen to him.

His hands and feet were chained to a steel post, he was left in an open area for the villagers to watch. Kakashi looked at the villagers, pleading with them for, at least one person to vouch for him, but they all turned their faces away.

His eyes widened from shock and his body was trembling, the villagers which he had taken care of, he treated kindly, trying to make them live a better life, everything he had ever done was for them, and in the end, none of them could even speak up for him.

It wasn't their fault, the only person who stood by his side was tagged as an accomplice and was tied beside him, waiting to be burnt to death. Kakashi turned to the girl beside him, her head was facing the ground and her striking blue hair covered her face, making Kakashi feel like it was his fault she was going to be killed.

Who was he kidding? Of course, it was his fault. It was his fault that the girl that was betrothed to him, the girl that he had always loved was going to die.

She didn't speak the whole time while Kakashi was screaming, she just stayed still, silently.

A middle-aged man who Kakashi had recognized as his stepbrother addresses the crowd.

"My good people, this traitor tried to steal something precious to us, a holy sword." The man paced around the platform before continuing with his speech. "The holy sword, Zenitsu, was given to us by God as a weapon that can banish evil spirits and they have tainted its holiness with their sins. What do you suggest we do to them?!"

"Come on!, What are we waiting for?!"

"Burn the thief!"

"Kill him!"

The villagers started shouting like they were commanded to do so, prompting the executioner.

He walked towards his direction and whispered into his ear.

"Tell me how does it feel? It must hurt to have your people betray you." He said chuckling. "It must suck to be you right now, and all it took was a few gold coins to change their minds, but don't worry, I'll take my money back when I finally take over from you. I pity your soon-to-be wife who blindly followed you to her death, she could have been happier with me but thanks to you, she's going to die the same your parents and siblings did."

"Damn you, bastard!!!" Kakashi yelled and bit his stepbrother's ear off.

The man screamed and fell to the ground, holding his ear. "Ahhh... You stinking bastard!, How dare you?!. What are you waiting for!?, Burn him, burn him now!!" He yelled at the guards as they came to help him.

The executioner finally did what he was waiting for, he threw the touch that he had been holding the whole time at Kakashi, causing the woods to go up in flames.

Kakashi struggled to break free as the fire was becoming more unbearable.

"Please!, Listen to me. I didn't do it. I was set up!" Kakashi pleaded. Even after all his pleading, nobody listened. His pain slowly grew into anger and he started screaming, but this time it was different. "I'll never forget you for this!, I'll make you pay!. You'll regret ever doing this to me!, Mark my words, I'm going kill all of you!!!"

**Breathing heavily**

Kakashi tried to control his breathing but the screaming and the smoke from his body being slowly burnt away, made him choke under his breath. He suddenly turned to the girl beside him.

"I'm sorry" He apologized. It was bad enough that he was going to be burnt to death for a crime he didn't commit but adding her for defending him was something he couldn't forgive. "I'm sorry, Aya. I dragged you into this"

Aya whose face was facing down the whole time just nodded. She didn't scream, she didn't say anything, she didn't even move an inch, she just kept quiet. It made Kakashi feel even more guilty.

Kakashi struggled and managed to pull out his hand from his bind and tried to reach for her, trying to hold her chin for the last time and tell her that she loved her. Aya finally raised her head, Kakashi's hand couldn't reach her but it was close. His hand covered the left side of her face that had already peeled off.

"I believe you" Aya managed to say with a faint smile on her face, her eyes were closed as tears rolled down her cheek. "I still believe you"

Kakashi began to tear up, he was finally able to break free from his shackles. His body was too damaged to try to escape, besides, he couldn't leave Aya behind. He slowly walked to Aya, forcing his body which was slowly breaking away and hugged her.

"Don't worry, it's going to be fine" He assured, but as he looked down at her, tears dripped down his cheek but were quickly boiled by the flames, Aya was already dead.
