Chapter 229: Chapter 229 Conflict! Justice League VS Avengers!
"Are we the ones being surrounded?"
Aside from the contemplative Tony, the Avengers surrounding Eddie were momentarily stunned, then reacted as if they'd just heard a joke.
"What nonsense are you talking about…"
"You really think one person can take on all of us?"
Rumlow sneered.
"Rumlow, shut up!"
Before Eddie could respond, Tony expression suddenly grew serious, and he shouted, "Alert! Everyone, stay alert… They're coming!"
"What?"
"Who coming?"
"Tony, what are you talking about?"
The others froze again.
Tony demeanor gave them an uneasy feeling, and their expressions instinctively turned serious. Could Eddie really have a trump card?
"It the teleportation device!"
Tony gritted his teeth, his tone anxious.
"The Justice League has a psychic teleportation device. Eddie must have already sent a distress signal. His allies wouldn't miss it… They're all coming! Batman is coming!"
At those words, everyone suddenly understood.
Even the team old-fashioned leader, Steve Rogers, Captain America himself.
Even he knew what "teleportation" meant.
Boom!
Though Tony warning was accurate, time was already against them.
Through Tony suit interface, he saw the energy fluctuations around them spike to their peak, and space itself began to distort.
Around them, the once mirror-like space seemed to rupture, forming a massive tear.
At the same time, the other Avengers—Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Doctor Octopus, and Crossbones—noticed energy beams appearing around them, shooting straight into the sky.
From within the beams, an unsettling, terrifying energy emanated.
Swish, swish, swish!
Suddenly, beam after beam appeared in succession, surrounding the Avengers in a bizarre layered formation.
In other words, the Avengers had Eddie encircled, but now the teleportation beams encircled the Avengers.
"Damn it, we're too late!"
Tony face darkened as he once again warned, gritting his teeth, "They're here!"
Whoosh!
As his words fell, figures began to emerge from the beams.
Batman, Cyborg, Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man, Daredevil, and four muscle-bound turtles—New York City mascots, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Including Venom, the Justice League totaled eleven individuals, all ready for action.
Wait.
The Justice League should have twelve members, but the demonic Phil was absent.
At this moment, Phil was carrying out a task previously assigned by Anton, serving as a bodyguard for the old man and his companions.
Under these circumstances, saying that the Justice League had fully mobilized was an acceptable stretch.
In any case, the number of Justice League members present in Washington was more than enough to unsettle the Avengers.
Gulp!
Doctor Octopus, Otto, swallowed nervously as his gaze locked onto Cyborg standing before him.
As someone who had been defeated by Cyborg, even with his enhancements after joining S.H.I.E.L.D., Otto couldn't guarantee he could defeat Cyborg now.
The more he understood, the clearer it became—Cyborg tech was not inferior to Tony Stark armor it might even surpass it.
"You Avengers… seem to have underestimated us in the Justice League," Batman said coldly, his sharp gaze sweeping over all the Avengers.
His words sent shivers down their spines, raising goosebumps on their arms.
"You will pay the price for this."
Green Arrow chimed in.
Standing beside Batman, his expression was grim.
Batman needed to maintain his aloof demeanor and wasn't suited to say too much.
The extra verbal jabs could be left to Green Arrow, whose level of prestige wasn't quite as high.
In the original story, a single line like "You have failed this city" perfectly captured Green Arrow showy personality.
Adding a remark before taking someone down—wasn't that just grandstanding?
"Batman…"
Tony took a deep breath. "We don't want a full-scale war with the Justice League."
"At this point, are you trying to back down?"
Eddie glared at Tony.
He had thought of Tony as a friend, yet today he was ambushed by that very friend.
If it hadn't been for the teleportation device, he wouldn't have been able to escape, let alone summon his allies for a counterattack.
"Back down?"
Crossbones wasn't one to show weakness and suddenly sneered.
He stared at Eddie, clenching his fists. "Don't think you can win just because you have more people!"
"Crossbones?"
Cyborg electronic eye flashed, and he suddenly spoke.
"Real name: Brock Rumlow. Publicly, he the commander of S.H.I.E.L.D. rapid response special forces.
But his true identity is that of a Hydra operative and Alexander Pierce most loyal subordinate."
"Hm?"
"What?"
The other Avengers were taken aback and turned to look at Crossbones.
Rumlow was equally stunned.
He hadn't expected that not only would Alexander Pierce identity be exposed, but his own would also be revealed.
Still, years of secrecy had trained him to be an excellent actor.
"Stop spouting nonsense!"
With a glare of fury, he put on an expression of deep hatred and turned to his fellow Avengers, shouting,
"At a time like this, are you really going to let their words sow discord among us?"
"Rumlow is right. At a time like this, no matter what the enemy says, we can't believe them."
Rogers gripped his shield tightly, choosing to stand by his teammate.
In a firm tone, he said, "What done is done. Get ready to fight… This outcome was something we already discussed."
Among the Avengers, Captain America held the highest prestige.
When he spoke, the others fell silent, halting their thoughts, which were doomed to lead nowhere.
As Rogers said:
For a situation like this, they had discussed it before setting out.
The final conclusion was that if they truly ended up face-to-face with the Justice League, aside from fighting, there didn't seem to be any other choice.
As for making peace?
That would require one side to back down first.
Clearly, neither side was willing to yield it wasn't even considered an option.
Whoosh!
As Rogers finished speaking, he flung his shield.
The motion was like a signal.
The fuse was lit, the spark raced along the line, and the bomb was completely detonated.
The battle began.
Black Widow and Hawkeye bodies erupted with red light, their Extremis virus modifications granting them extraordinary powers.
The Ninja Turtles, seeing this, brandished their weapons and charged at the duo, clashing in a fierce melee.
The turtles, with their tough skin and protective shells, weren't as afraid of intense heat and flames as ordinary humans.
Spider-Man glanced around the battlefield, his eyes landing on Captain America.
After a moment hesitation, he thought it might be a good opportunity to meet his childhood idol.
Just as he was about to rush over, Doctor Octopus, Otto, charged toward him.
Haunted by his previous defeat, Otto, as a scientist, was wary of Cyborg and had no intention of facing him again.
After some thought, he deemed Spider-Man an easier target and set his sights on him.
Rumlow, ever the opportunist, targeted Daredevil.
Now, Eddie came into play.
Transformed into Venom, Eddie was incredibly vengeful. Having just clashed with Rumlow moments earlier, Venom didn't hesitate to intervene, joining Daredevil against Rumlow.
Rumlow was instantly under immense pressure, quickly learning the consequences of his sharp tongue.
Naturally, Iron Man opponent became Cyborg.
The two armored combatants took to the skies, entering a new battlefield and unleashing a dazzling aerial battle.
This left Batman, Wonder Woman, and Captain Steve Rogers.
Among the three, Batman didn't move.
Rogers initiated the fight with his shield, hurling it like a boomerang toward Batman.
Clang!!
In a flash of sparks, just as the shield was about to hit Batman, Wonder Woman suddenly stepped in front of him, deflecting the shield with the silver bracers on her forearms.
The resounding clash of metal echoed.
Captain America shield ricocheted back, landing once more in his grasp.
Meanwhile, Wonder Woman summoned her godly shield and the Sword of Hephaestus.
With a sweeping motion of the sword, she pointed it at Captain America.
Whoosh!
A formidable wave of divine power surged forth, like a level-eight gale sweeping across the battlefield. The terrifying winds billowed around her, sending her long hair flying.
In that moment, Captain America stared at his opponent, feeling an unprecedented sense of pressure.
He had studied the profiles of all the Justice League members.
Information on Venom, Daredevil, Spider-Man, and the Ninja Turtles was relatively easy to obtain.
But Batman, Cyborg, Green Arrow, and Wonder Woman—these four seemed to have appeared out of nowhere, with no real-world counterparts to trace.
Even the most likely candidate for Batman, Anton, had been personally ruled out by Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Notably, of these four, the most extraordinary wasn't Batman, who had assembled the Justice League, but Wonder Woman—the opponent Captain America now faced.
The daughter of Zeus!
A true and literal god!
Not long ago, information provided by S.H.I.E.L.D. had dealt a heavy blow to Captain America staunch belief in science.
Even someone as old-fashioned as him had to admit that gods truly existed in this world.
However, these so-called gods were merely beings from other planets—advanced intelligent lifeforms who happened to look exactly like humans.
These thoughts flashed through his mind.
Boom!!
Wonder Woman suddenly made her move, snapping his attention back to reality. His focus sharpened to its peak.
In a flash, Wonder Woman body transformed into a streak of lightning, seemingly radiating golden holy light.
A fierce wind burst outward in all directions, slapping against faces like open-handed strikes.
Captain America pupils contracted.
Faced with Wonder Woman assault, he felt as though time itself had slowed down. His own movements seemed to lag behind.
Only Wonder Woman moved at normal speed within this slowed world, wielding her ancient-looking sword as she lunged toward him.
The sword tip sliced through the air, leaving ripples in its wake.
Sweat poured down Captain America forehead.
At the critical moment, he broke through the divine energy suppression and raised his shield to block.
Clang!!
Another sharp metallic collision rang out.
Captain America barely managed to deflect Wonder Woman strike, and the sweat on his forehead finally slid down his cheek.
But immediately after, an unimaginable force surged from the shield into his body. The impact sent him flying backward, like a discarded ragdoll.
He was hurled off the rooftop, tracing a perfect arc through the air before crashing to the ground below with a thunderous boom.
"Cap!!"
The scene stunned the other Avengers.
No one had expected Captain America, one of their stronger fighters, to be unable to withstand even a single blow from their enemy.
"Cap!"
In the skies above, Tony, who was locked in a back-and-forth exchange with Cyborg, caught sight of this.
His thrusters roared to life as he rushed toward the falling Captain America.
"Trying to leave…"
Cyborg sneered, "You're underestimating me, Tony!"
As he spoke, his arms transformed into energy cannons, firing directly at Tony to intercept his attempt to rescue Captain America.
