Chapter 12: Well Said, the Strong Should Bully the Weak
The student newspaper club has been around for a long time, and Chloe's computer was connected to the campus intranet.
The girl moved her mouse and typed on the keyboard. Soon, a large photo of Jeremy popped up on her computer screen.
"Name: Jeremy Cree."
"Twelve years ago, he was a high school student with excellent grades, but after falling into a coma due to a wilderness disaster, he received financial support from LuthorCorp for twelve years."
Chloe scrolled, glancing at Jino.
He actually has ties to the Luthor Family.
"So, why are you asking about this guy?" Pete sounded a bit gossipy.
"I have some private matters to settle with him. He recently woke up and then disappeared," Jino said with a faint smile, then instructed Chloe, "Could you please also look up the members of Jeremy's old football team?"
As Chloe typed, a photo of three burly men in football uniforms quickly appeared before Jino's eyes.
"These three are David, Kendall, and Lance."
"They were the main players on that year's football team."
"And these guys happened to choose Jeremy to be the Scarecrow back then," Pete said mysteriously. "My mom's sister's ex-boyfriend's nephew was in Jeremy's class. That guy was quiet and often got bullied."
"Is that so?" Jino stroked his chin, gazing thoughtfully at the computer. "Thank you for your help. I have to leave for a bit."
Having gotten the information he wanted, Jino didn't linger. He tossed his car keys to Chloe and Pete, joking with a smile, "This is your 'payment.' You can drive it home after school and bring it back tomorrow."
He was never stingy with rewards when asking for help, but because they were high school classmates, Jino felt it would be inappropriate to directly offer money; it would change the nature of their relationship.
"Boss, you're too generous!" Pete's eyebrows shot up. It was a sports car; most ordinary people would never even get to touch one in their lifetime.
As for feeling insulted?
Please, driving a sports car and showing off to relatives and friends was cool. Everyone would know you had a friend who drove a sports car.
Besides, Pete and Chloe weren't that sensitive, introverted, or fragile.
"See you tomorrow." Jino waved goodbye and pushed the door open, leaving.
After Jino left, Chloe and Pete exchanged glances, looking at the sports car keys on the table, then simultaneously reached out their "devil's claws" toward the car.
"It's mine!"
Ignoring the commotion inside as they fought over the keys, Jino pulled out his phone and called the Smallville police chief after leaving the office.
"Hello?"
"Chief George, it's me, Jino Luthor. I'd like to ask you about a few people." Jino's tone was calm.
Chief George on the other end of the line immediately lowered his voice upon hearing the name "Luthor," respectfully saying, "Sir, please tell me what you need."
"I need to ask you about a few people."
In free America, power exists to serve money.
Smallville was quiet and peaceful late at night.
The climate here was a bit chilly at night.
A full moon hung high in the sky, its clean, soft moonlight spilling onto the street and into a repair shop on a silent street.
A loud rock song was playing on a music player.
A young man named David was shaking his head to the rhythm of the music while swinging a wrench in his hand, tapping and checking the performance of the off-road vehicle in front of him.
"Good boy." David returned to the car, twisted the key, and watched the engine roar. A proud smile appeared on the man's face; this job was going to make him money.
Bang!
The man closed the hood. A figure had appeared in a corner not far away, unnoticed.
The moonlight spilled at his feet, making the young man's face appear alternately bright and dim.
"Hey, this is private property. Do you need a car repaired?" The middle-aged man frowned, instinctively tightening his grip on the wrench in his hand.
"David Scan, former football team captain, the popular guy on campus, every girl's crush, now reduced to a pathetic car mechanic?" A slightly hoarse and young voice echoed in the workshop.
The boy's words undoubtedly ignited David's anger: "F*ck, get out of here!"
He tightened his grip on the wrench and began to walk toward the person.
As the distance between them closed, the hazy face gradually became clear.
A gaunt figure, sunken cheeks, dressed in a cheap white hoodie.
What chilled David most was the man's cold and eerie gaze.
"Wait…" David stared at the young man, feeling that the more he looked, the more familiar he seemed.
"I think I know you!"
"You're that Scarecrow, Jeremy!"
David stared at Jeremy, a hint of disdain appearing on his face as he scanned the young man's clothing. "How can you have the nerve to mock me? You don't look rich yourself."
Hearing the man's words, a playful glint flashed in Jeremy's eyes. "No, no, no, we're not the same."
He spread his hands. "The reason I can mock you is because I have the right and the power to do so."
As he spoke, Jeremy's hands suddenly glowed with a searing blue light. On closer inspection, it was actually a torrent of wildly flickering electrical currents.
"Zap!"
Before the middle-aged man could react, Jeremy abruptly grabbed his neck.
"Sizzle!"
The moment skin touched skin, a violent current surged into the man's body, invading every blood vessel and brutally destroying his tissues!
"Ah oh oh~" The man, inundated by the current, trembled all over, his eyes rolled back, re-enacting the famous scene of Wu Jing being electrocuted. A strong smell of burnt flesh wafted from him.
"Heh heh." Jeremy watched the man struggle in agony, a morbid smile spreading across his face.
"That's right, exactly. The strong should humiliate the weak, isn't that what you taught me?"
"Just die already!" Jeremy shouted, continuously increasing the current in his hands.
"Ah!" The man let out a piercing scream, and nearby electrical appliances sparked and exploded under the influence of the current.
"Crack!"
Amidst the sparks and flashes of electricity, Jeremy closed his eyes in enjoyment. "That's right, just like that. Your screams are my lullaby."
"Whoosh!"
Before Jeremy could fully enjoy torturing David, a whooshing sound reached his ears, and he instantly felt a sharp pain in his cheek.
"Thud!"
A fist landed on the man's face without warning.
"Boom!"
The air exploded with a sonic boom.
The next second, the young man flew out like a baseball, slamming into a scrapped car in the workshop. The immense force embedded his entire body into the car door.
"My face!"
Lying in the car, Jeremy wailed, clutching his cheek. That punch not only sent him flying but also knocked out several teeth on the right side of his face. Crimson blood trickled from the corner of his mouth, making him look quite pathetic.
"Who is it!" Jeremy glared vengefully at the shadowy figure in the corner.
"Clap, clap, clap~"
A tall figure slowly clapped his hands as he emerged from the darkness. The moonlight dispelled the shadows, revealing a handsome face, though a look of disdain was etched upon those attractive features.
"You're absolutely right, Jeremy." The blond young man rubbed his fist, rotated his neck, and stared at the young man in the corner. "The strong should indeed humiliate the weak."
Jino paused, the smile on his face fading, and he said expressionlessly, "So, are you ready?"
