Chapter 65: DSWS: Chapter 65
"The Pleasure District"
Tension hung heavy in the air. Even Tanjiro and his companions felt a palpable pressure. This was the first time they'd witnessed a potential clash between Hashira, and they were unsure how it would unfold.
Just as everyone braced for a fight between Aoki and Tengen Uzui, Tengen Uzui unexpectedly backed down.
He dropped his fighting stance, a look of resignation replacing his earlier aggression.
With a sigh, Tengen Uzui explained, "I didn't want to do this, but I have to. This mission requires women."
Seeing Tengen Uzui finally explain, Aoki deactivated his Sharingan. "What kind of mission requires women? Tell me."
"My three wives lost contact while on a mission in the pleasure district. Demons have been confirmed there, so I suspect they were abducted. To rescue them, I need to investigate."
"But the pleasure district is unique. Most inhabitants are women who offer companionship and entertainment. To investigate effectively, I need women.
The Butterfly Mansion is the only place in the Corps with women, so I came here to enlist some… unfortunate volunteers."
Aoki stared, his eyes wide.
"Three wives? Uzui, you dog," Aoki said with a smirk, clearly amused by the gossip.
Tengen Uzui's face darkened. He didn't want to explain further; it would only get more complicated.
Aoki stroked his chin, deep in thought.
After a moment, he said, "You said women are necessary for the investigation. I have three suitable candidates."
"Who?"
Aoki turned, his gaze falling on the three attendants standing by the Butterfly Mansion entrance. A sly, mischievous grin spread across his face.
The three attendants felt a sudden chill.
"Take these three. While only women can easily infiltrate the pleasure district, men in disguise might work. With the right disguise, they'll blend in."
After some hesitation, Tengen Uzui nodded. "Fine. Let's take them. I suspect a Twelve Kizuki is involved, so two Hashira working together will provide better protection."
The Mugen Train incident had drastically altered their perception of the Twelve Kizuki. Even the usually arrogant Tengen Uzui was seeking Aoki's collaboration.
Aoki had no reason to refuse. Killing lower-level demons was too slow; eliminating Twelve Kizuki was far more efficient, but he hadn't encountered any since the Mugen Train.
Even the previously active Lower Moons had disappeared, leaving Aoki frustrated.
He couldn't defeat the Upper Moons, and he couldn't find the Lower Moons.
With Tengen Uzui suggesting a Twelve Kizuki might be in the pleasure district, Aoki was willing to investigate.
He mentally prepared his Flying Thunder God technique; if things went south, he could escape, unlike his last near-fatal encounter with Akaza.
Before they left, however, they needed to treat Zenitsu's wound to prevent infection.
Once Zenitsu's wound was treated, the five prepared for departure.
Before leaving the Butterfly Mansion, Aoki instructed Kanao Tsuyuri, "If Shinobu returns and can't find us, tell her we're going to the pleasure district with Uzui. If she wants to join, she can follow."
The five then set off for the pleasure district.
Upon arrival, Tengen Uzui suggested a stop at a house marked with wisteria flowers. This symbol indicated the household had received assistance from the Demon Slayer Corps and would provide hospitality to any Corps members needing rest or treatment.
"Once in the pleasure district, you three find my wives. Aoki and I will gather information on demons. Remember, be discreet; avoid drawing attention," Tengen Uzui instructed Tanjiro and his companions.
"Actually," Tanjiro said, standing up, "you keep emphasizing discretion, but how exactly do we do that?"
Tengen Uzui replied, "You just need to disguise yourselves and blend into the establishments."
"My wives are excellent kunoichi. I suspected the pleasure district was a good hiding place for demons, but I found nothing during my visits as a guest. That's why I sent them undercover."
"I've identified three suspicious establishments: Suma at the Tokito, Makio at the Ogimoto, and Hinatsuru at the Kyogoku House. Find my wives and get information from them."
"Maybe your wives are already dead," Inosuke suddenly interjected, earning a swift blow from Tengen Uzui.
A man poked his head out from inside the house. "I've prepared everything you need."
Yoshiwara Pleasure District.
A unique place in Japan, a haven for women and a popular destination for men.
Women here offered both companionship and entertainment. With enough money, anything was possible, even beyond government regulation.
This resulted in significantly lower security than other areas, though incidents were rare.
Tengen Uzui had long suspected this district was an ideal hiding place for demons. His investigations yielded nothing, so he sent his three wives undercover as employees, but they recently lost contact.
Desperate, Tengen Uzui sought help to rescue them, suspecting they'd been captured by demons hiding in the Yoshiwara, especially since all three wives lost contact simultaneously.
