Chapter 66: DSWS: Chapter 66
"Infiltration"
"My, my, what a clumsy little girl."
Inside a Yoshiwara establishment, an elderly man and woman sat before five individuals: three girls and two boys.
The three girls were, to put it mildly, strikingly unattractive.
Their names were: Tan-ko, Zen-ko, and In-ko.
These were Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke in elaborate disguises. To complete their mission for Tengen Uzui and Aoki, they had reluctantly adopted these personas.
Their escorts were Aoki and Tengen Uzui, both impeccably dressed and undeniably handsome, at least by modern standards.
"I'm sorry, but we're not really taking anyone else right now. We just took in a new girl a few days ago," the old man said apologetically.
His wife, however, was clearly captivated by Aoki and Tengen Uzui. "But another one wouldn't hurt."
"Then we'll trouble you to take one more. My apologies, ma'am," Tengen Uzui said with a practiced air of regret.
Disguised Tanjiro stepped forward, volunteering to stay. "I'll work hard!"
And so, Tanjiro was left at this establishment. Tengen Uzui then dispatched Zenitsu and Inosuke to the other two suspected locations.
As night fell, Aoki and Tengen Uzui climbed to the rooftops overlooking the Yoshiwara.
"Where should we start?" Aoki asked Tengen Uzui.
"No rush," Tengen Uzui replied. "Let's see how our three do first. We don't know where to begin yet."
Aoki nodded, showing no impatience.
Yoshiwara, Ogimoto House.
"See? How does this look?"
The Ogimoto House was one of the establishments Tengen Uzui's wife had identified as suspicious. Inosuke was assigned here.
His amateurishly applied makeup had initially made him look rather grotesque, but after the Ogimoto owner washed it off, his naturally pretty features, enhanced by the female attire, were revealed.
He looked like a beautiful woman, albeit a slightly vacant one.
"Jackpot! Jackpot! We hit the jackpot! Despite the strange makeup, he's gorgeous after washing it off. What luck! We got such a beautiful child for such a low price."
"Let's market him well. He needs to be more popular than Warabihime."
Inosuke was promptly and forcefully taken away by the Ogimoto owners.
"Now, this child… is she unusually firm?"
"Aren't chubby children better?"
"It's less chubby and more… rock-hard."
Yoshiwara, Kyogoku House.
Zenitsu was assigned here. He sat playing the shamisen with surprising skill.
"That… that child plays the shamisen beautifully."
"Yes, so powerful."
"New here?"
"Her hearing is amazing. She can play any shamisen or koto after hearing it once, but she's so ugly. I can't believe the shop hired her."
Yoshiwara, Tokito House.
This was Tanjiro's assignment. Compared to Zenitsu and Inosuke, things were relatively calm here.
"Little Tanjiro, could you help me move this? We seem short-handed."
Tanjiro, folding clothes, paused. "I understand. To Koinatsu's room, right? I'll do it right away."
He effortlessly lifted two heavy objects, each weighing over a hundred pounds, and carried them towards Koinatsu's room.
In Koinatsu's room, Tanjiro overheard two women whispering.
"Hey, did you hear? Kyogoku House's madam fell out the window and died."
"Scary. We need to be careful."
"Many girls have disappeared lately. It's terrifying."
The two women didn't notice Tanjiro enter until he was close enough to ask, "What's 'disappeared'?"
"Little Tanjiro, you don't know? It means girls who ran away before paying their debts. Those who are caught… well, it's not pretty.
Some manage to escape and run off with their lovers. Suma, the former oiran, was like that. Whether she escaped successfully is unknown."
At the mention of "Suma," Tanjiro's body tensed. He remembered Suma was one of Tengen Uzui's wives. She was supposedly a runaway, but in reality, she'd been abducted by a demon.
"Let's not talk about rumors," Koinatsu, the oiran, appeared, dressed elegantly.
Looking at Tanjiro, Koinatsu spoke softly. "Thank you for carrying those things. Come here for a moment."
As one of the Yoshiwara's most famous oirans, Koinatsu was undeniably beautiful, surpassing most women Tanjiro had ever seen. Her gentle manner gave the impression of a kind, motherly figure.
Tanjiro approached, and she slipped some sweets into his hand. "Here's a treat for you. Eat it secretly."
After accepting the sweets, Tanjiro began his investigation. "Excuse me, was Suma the oiran… was she a runaway?"
Koinatsu paused, surprised by the question. "Why do you ask?"
"Because Suma… she's my sister," Tanjiro replied, his honesty evident in his tense demeanor.
Koinatsu and the other women were shocked; they'd never heard of Suma having a sister.
Koinatsu then began to recount the details of Suma's disappearance.
