Demon Slayer: The Ultimate Defense System

Chapter 44: Chapter 44 – A Home Among Demon Slayers

"I came here today mainly to ask if Lord Ubuyashiki would be willing to offer Lady Tamayo a place to stay."

"You mean… have Lady Tamayo live here at the Demon Slayer Corps headquarters?"

"Yes."

Ubuyashiki didn't answer right away. Instead, he turned his gaze toward Tamayo. "What do you think, Lady Tamayo?"

In the past, he had written to her several times, hoping she would come to the headquarters. But every time, she had declined. Now, hearing the request come from her own mouth—well, through Yohan—left him momentarily puzzled.

Tamayo responded softly, "Lord Ubuyashiki, whatever Yohan says—that is my will as well."

Slightly surprised by how readily Tamayo followed Yohan's words, Ubuyashiki didn't dwell on it. Instead, he gave a gentle smile and nodded.

"In that case, allow me to welcome you to the Demon Slayer Corps, Lady Tamayo."

He then glanced at Yohan again, curiosity flickering in his violet eyes. "Might I ask—what happened in Asakusa that brought about this change of heart?"

Yohan offered a calm nod. "Of course… Allow me to explain."

And so, Yohan recounted everything—what had happened in Asakusa, their encounters, and all that had led Tamayo to reconsider her stance.

"I see," Ubuyashiki said after hearing the full story. "Thank you for telling me. Lady Tamayo, please rest assured—now that you're here, I will guarantee your safety."

To Ubuyashiki, Tamayo was a unique and remarkable existence—a demon who had broken free from Kibutsuji Muzan's control and no longer fed on humans. The fact that she also shared their goal of eliminating Muzan made her a precious ally.

Tamayo bowed slightly. "Thank you, Lord Ubuyashiki."

But in her heart, the feeling of safety came not from this promise, but from the man beside her—Yohan.

With the first matter settled, Yohan moved to the real reason he had come.

"Lord Ubuyashiki," he said, expression serious, "do you truly wish to eradicate Kibutsuji Muzan, once and for all?"

The air in the room shifted.

Ubuyashiki's demeanor changed entirely. He straightened his back and leaned forward, his tone resolute and unwavering.

"Yohan, destroying Muzan is the sworn duty of the Ubuyashiki family. It is the very reason the Demon Slayer Corps exists."

"So, if you know a way… any way to kill him—tell me."

And with those words, he bowed deeply before Yohan.

Without hesitation, Yohan began to explain the plan he had shared with Tamayo previously. Every detail. Every step.

"…The Blue Spider Lily," Ubuyashiki murmured when Yohan finished. He closed his eyes, thoughtful.

For a long while, silence hung in the air.

Then finally, he opened his eyes and met Yohan's gaze with absolute clarity.

"Yohan," he said gravely, "the Demon Slayer Corps will assist you with everything we have."

There was no hesitation in his voice. This was the moment he had waited for.

Ubuyashiki understood now, thanks to Tamayo's testimony, that Muzan truly sought to evolve into a "perfect being." And central to that evolution was the very thing Yohan spoke of—the Blue Spider Lily.

For years, the Demon Slayer Corps had lost ground. Ever since Muzan killed off the Sun Breathing swordsmen after the death of Yoriichi Tsugikuni, their strength had waned. Many current generations of Demon Slayers had never even glimpsed Muzan, let alone fought him.

But now—now there was a chance.

This plan Yohan offered—it could draw Muzan out. That was all Ubuyashiki needed.

If he could lure Muzan into the open, he would stake every last ounce of strength the Demon Slayer Corps had. Even if it meant annihilation, they would hold him until dawn.

They would end him.

Ubuyashiki had made up his mind.

"In that case, Lord Ubuyashiki, we'll take our leave and get some rest."

"Yes. And I leave this mission in the hands of you and Lady Tamayo."

As Yohan turned to go, Ubuyashiki suddenly remembered something.

"Oh, Yohan—one more thing. I will be calling a Hashira meeting soon to announce this plan. I hope you and Lady Tamayo will both attend."

"No problem at all, Lord Ubuyashiki."

Yohan left the room with Tamayo quietly following. For him, the main purpose of this trip had now been fulfilled. All that remained was the gathering of the Hashira.

"Things went smoother than I expected," Tamayo commented softly beside him.

Yohan chuckled. "Of course."

"Ubuyashiki is not only a noble leader, but also a man with a vast heart. It's precisely people like him who have the power to inspire others to fight side by side."

Yohan spoke with admiration, clearly impressed.

He turned his head slightly to glance at Tamayo. "Now do you feel at ease?"

Tamayo's eyes flickered, and she quickly looked away, her voice barely above a whisper. "Y-Yes, Yohan."

Before this meeting, she had only known Ubuyashiki through letters. In her mind, he was just another man who shared her goal of killing Muzan. She hadn't expected his warmth… or the genuine respect in his gaze, despite her being a demon.

He hadn't looked at her with fear or disdain—only welcome.

For the first time in centuries, Tamayo felt accepted by someone who wasn't Yohan.

Yohan, noticing her strange silence, scratched his head, puzzled. "Alright then. Let's head to Butterfly Mansion. I'll introduce you to your future colleagues."

"Yes, Yohan," Tamayo replied with a gentle smile.

As she followed behind him, she didn't say the one thing she wanted most to express.

That the person she was most grateful to—the one who had saved her, given her hope, and never once treated her as anything less than human—was the man walking just a few steps ahead of her.
