Chapter 1120: Athena’s Cage
His name had rolled off her tongue even before her mind could catch her.
He stopped. Right in front of her. Both of them facing each other for a while.
Virgil saw this and wanted to say something, but Lilith raised a hand to him, and his lips paused were they were.
It was obvious that she wanted to enjoy the show.
"I knew it was you. You look.... Different. Where are your eyes?"
"I lost them....Eaten," she added as the look on her face suggested that she still did not believe that he was the one.
"And you. You are..."
"A cup bearer of the morningstar!"
Athena had questions. A million of them. She wanted to know how.
However, a thought came to fruition in Hector’s head and he suddenly frowned. "Is that it? was he the one that... Was he the one that sent you here?" He took a step back. His eyes turning towards the throne. "I heard. He is your son right? First he took my woman, and now, he plans to take my home."
Athena was speechless about this. She absolutely did not expect that he brought this entire thing up again.
It was because of this, that they had that fight the other time.
She bloated out, "NO!!! I... I left. I left the eighth earth. I rejected his offer. I... came for," her fingers streched to reach him. However, he took a step back.
"I haven’t forgotten." His words interrupted her. "You were responsible for their death... My Father... My mother. There were good people."
Those words defeated any strength that Athena had initially summoned. and the beat down in her heart was incredible.
With all the power, and greatness she had achieved, before him right now, she was speechless. Who could have thought that this sin that she committed against the man she had only ever loved would come and bite her again in hell.
However, that was exactly the problem. She had already tortured herself for a long time because of this. In truth, she had served her punishment. But she could see that glaring gaze in his eyes spoke otherwise, she was at a loss for what to say.
Hector suddenly took several steps back. Disgust was evident on his face.
"You do not belong here, go back to earth."
"Hector... No!...I" she tried to reach for him again. But stepped back some more. "And don’t you dare call me that name. Hector is no more. In this place, I am Moranda, Cup bearer of the Morningstar."
On saying this, he turned around, his body morphed into a wild black smoke in an instant, and he flew out of the place.
Athena watched him fly away.
Her hand still streched towards him. She was not even granted the satisfaction of touching him after losing him for so long.
In truth, she had thought that she had become different. She thought that she had become over him. However, all he had to do was call her name, and all the cells in her body had responded to the longing of feeling him.
The entire defense she had put up against him had all crumbled like dust.
Lilith watched this in both interest and amusement.
Meanwhile, a glowing yellow tear fell from one side of her golden eye sockets.
At such a time, Lilith sighed. "I think that is enough drama." She stood to her feet, and then walked over to Athena, pulling her into her embrace. "There there little one." she stroked her beautiful hair gently. "Trust me, I understand the cruelty of love, especially when sacrifices made her never returned."
She helped her to wipe her face. "Why don’t I help you out with something. It will make you feel much better."
In saying this, she waved her hands, and some of the blood that made up the portal gathered together, weaving with one another, creating a glowing green light, and then the other side was revealed.
"Access to the other earths is not so granted. But You are a natural denizen of the earth earth. the Cosmic laws will not prevent your return back home."
Athena looked on. Truly, Ahead of her was home. She could feel the wind blow from one side to this side, picking up the dried smell of the desert, and even the smell of the mutant beasts as they crawled on its surface.
As dangerous as that place had been, it was her home, and in a very weird way, she missed it. Or did she? Did she actually miss it?
After all, her time there had been anything but rosy. From the gladiator dens to the battles in the arena, and then destroying it all under Lenny’s direction, to escaping into the witches territory, and then getting lost in the nether realm.
Now that she even thought about it, there was never a time, that she had been able to make a choice for herself. Not until now.
She had been sentenced to hell without her consent and weathered through a storm with her will and might. And even outsmarted a predator that had treated her like a free-range farm animal, and now, with out power she had carved for herself, she was living her best life yet.
And yet, it was in hell. In hell, she was a person of power, one that had even gotten the respect of the Hell beasts, become their Boss, and now earned the respect of unusual being like Virgil, and lastly the Praised and feared Mother Of hell.
Out there, she had been nothing. But in here, she was someone. She was recognized. She was of importance, and the best part was the fact that he was here. Her Hector was here.
Athena paused, and then she turned to Lilith. "I... I don’t want to go."
"You want to stay!?" Lilith gave a surprised look, but in truth, she knew this was going to happen.
"Yes, I want to stay here in hell."
"But..." Lilith pulled away from her. "But that’s not right. Its not right for you to have a fleshy body in hell. I mean I am of flesh but my flesh as partaken of the tree of knowledge. I am much different. For you, your life, health, its already a miracle that you are still alive."
"What does that mean?" Athena asked.
Virgil stepped forward and bowed towards Lilith, "perhaps I might explain it to her."
"of course." Lilith allowed Virgil speak.
"you are an anomaly here in hell. And sooner than later, your stench will attract significant trouble. You see, there are entities in hell that your kind cannot comprehend that will turn your flesh into dust. If left on your own, you will definitely not last long."
"What do you mean? I have done good so far."
Virgil suddenly waved his hand, "have you!"
And then she saw it. Her body glowed with a white light. It was the same one that surrounded virgil’s body.
"I had long placed my mark on you the moment I sensed the presence of flesh in hell. But that was because I needed you to help release the Hell mother from her prison. If you decide to live here in hell on your own accord, I will remove my blind on you. And there will know you are here." his expression became stern, "Trust me, you would wish you had ran back home when you have the chance."
"But why would you do that...?"
"I had a deal with you." Virgil spoke like the gentleman that he was, "and I have fulfilled my end of it. I have no obligation to do any more. I’ll rather put all my effort into serving my Queen."
Athena had a faint understanding of what was going on. and in truth, she had already made up her mind. "I’ll serve." She suddenly took a knee before Lilith. "I’ll serve the Hell mother."
"Oh, now this is a surprise." Lilith spoke up. "Are you sure about this. I heard from Virgil that you have very unique talents. I might end up using you... a little too much."
"It doesn’t matter. I’ll stay and serve. In here, I am important. But out there, I am...nothing. Besides, he is here."
"Very well," a smile played on Lilith’s lips as she stepped forward. She made a cut on her palm and allowed blood flow out. And then she made a runic symbol on Athena’s head.
"You will serve as my General. This day, I gift you the true name....."
The moment the true name was given, Athena once again went through rapid changes. as the mark on her forehead sank into her being.
Of course, it was called a true name. What Athena did not know was that this true name, and gift of power given to her was but a shackle.
Of course, deep in her bloodline, a different one from one that had given her a different name existed. But that is a story for another day...
(Author’s note: A bit of Writer’s block. But I’ll get back. Also, more twists to come.)
