Douluo Dalu 2: Sun-Moon Glory

Chapter 144: Chapter 142: Meng Hongchen and Ji Juechen’s Clash

An incomparably sharp aura burst from Ji Juechen's body in an instant. In that moment, he seemed to become one with his sword, the Celestial Meteorite Sword.

He had fused soul into sword—this was Ji Juechen's cultivation method. His martial soul no longer had a physical form but had entirely become energy, perfectly integrated into the Celestial Meteorite Sword. Man and sword were one, indistinguishable from each other.

The sharp pressure surging from him was the manifestation of his intense sword intent.

As Ji Juechen poured soul power into the sword, a low hum began to emanate from the Celestial Meteorite Sword. Its tip trembled lightly as his aura surged at an alarming pace. If this sword was unleashed, it would surely shake the heavens.

Meanwhile, across the field, Huo Yuhao remained calm despite sensing the deadly sword aura. Without a trace of panic, he calmly put on a silver helmet—his prize from the royal tournament: a Grade 9 spiritual amplification soul tool. Against opponents like Ji Juechen and Jing Ziyan, he would need to give it his all.

Beside Ji Juechen, Jing Ziyan stood ready. She planned to support him the moment he launched his strike. With a sword fanatic like Ji Juechen spearheading the attack, her role as support was most fitting.

Noticing that Ji Juechen and Jing Ziyan seemed focused more on herself, and that Huo Yuhao's unique helmet had barely drawn their attention, Meng Hongchen's lips curled into a beautiful, confident smile.

'Heh. If you underestimate Yuhao, you're going to lose.'

With that thought, she acted, choosing to break the battlefield's silence herself.

Her third soul ring lit up. In concert with Huo Yuhao's spiritual detection and planning, countless smooth ice mirrors suddenly appeared across the dueling platform. Utilizing the ice refraction to her advantage, Meng Hongchen rapidly darted between them, quickly closing in on Ji Juechen and Jing Ziyan.

Ji Juechen remained calm with eyes shut, sensing Meng Hongchen's approach. His brow twitched—an aggressive move?

Without any warning, Ji Juechen's eyes suddenly snapped open, twin arcs of lightning flickering in his gaze as he locked onto Huo Yuhao.

In the next second, his entire body turned into a streak of light skimming low across the ground, charging toward Meng Hongchen.

A lightning-fast streak—his movement so quick it could only be described as a flash of brilliance. Without any soul tool enhancement, this was the upper limit of a six-ring Soul Emperor's speed. Even agility-type soul masters at his level would struggle to match it.

Contrasting his explosive movement, Ji Juechen's upper body moved slowly.

His hands gripped the sword as he turned his body and swung in a slow horizontal arc. It was a simple motion, but under his execution, it seemed impossibly heavy—like slicing through a dense liquid. The strike was slow yet flawless.

As the Celestial Meteorite Sword swung, the ground ten meters away cracked open with a several-meter-deep trench that extended as Ji Juechen slid along, growing deeper by the second.

Meng Hongchen's eyes narrowed. His speed had far exceeded her expectations. As the deadly sword aura swept toward her, she showed no fear. A glistening icy armor appeared over her body, reflecting brilliant light. In her hand was a crystalline soul tool rifle marked with eerie green veins—crafted from mysterious black ice.

This armor was made by Huo Yuhao himself using ten-thousand-year-old black ice acquired from Shrek Academy. It was an elite soul tool optimized for enhancing ice-type soul power and protecting its wearer—a customized variation of Huo Yuhao's own Ice Pole Armor.

The soul tool rifle in her hand was Meng Hongchen's own creation. Its effect?

She raised the rifle and, with Huo Yuhao's spiritual detection guiding her, fired a beam of chilling green-glowing ice energy straight at Ji Juechen.

The moment Ji Juechen sensed the terrifying aura in that jade-green beam, his expression changed. He knew this wasn't something he could block head-on.

Quickly, he altered his trajectory to dodge the beam. But doing so at such high speed threw him wildly off course, causing him to veer dozens of meters to Meng Hongchen's right before halting. He had completely missed his chance to strike her.

This entire sequence—from Meng Hongchen's charge to Ji Juechen's retreat—unfolded in the blink of an eye.

The green glow in the beam came from Meng Hongchen's Ultimate Poison. During past training, she and Huo Yuhao discovered that after their martial souls fused, her body seemed able to naturally produce the same deadly poison, even when not fused.

This revelation gave her the idea for a soul tool: by integrating her Ultimate Poison into the beam-firing soul tool rifle, she created a weapon that shot lethal toxin-infused beams. Ji Juechen had sensed the terrifying danger in the toxin and wisely evaded it.

Meng Hongchen sighed with slight regret. This Soul Emperor from the Royal Academy really wasn't easy to deal with. Had her shot landed and poisoned him, he would've gradually lost all ability to resist—the true terror of her Ultimate Poison.

Unfortunately, the rifle required a ten-minute recharge period after each shot to regenerate enough toxin. It also required a user capable of safely controlling the poison, making it exclusive to Meng Hongchen. With some upgrades, this weapon might reach even greater heights.

Even though the ten-minute killer failed, Meng Hongchen smiled softly—her objective had already been met.

Ji Juechen steadied himself, feeling something was wrong. Where was Jing Ziyan? She should've backed him up by now.

Suddenly, a thought struck him, and he turned toward where Huo Yuhao had stood—only to find him gone.

Whipping his head back toward Jing Ziyan's direction, Ji Juechen saw the shocking sight of her collapsed on the ground—and standing before her was Huo Yuhao.

What had happened in that single second while he was focused on Meng Hongchen?

Meng Hongchen turned her eyes to the stunned Ji Juechen and smiled sweetly.

"Hehe, Brother Ji... Looks like it's two versus one now. Still want to keep fighting?"
