Douluo Dalu 3: Legend of the White Fox

Chapter 127: Chapter 127: I Can't Fully Agree to Your Request

Yali watched Leng Yaozhu, who seemed to be angry at Xia Yi on the surface but was actually in a very good mood and appeared quite relaxed. Yali's delicate brows furrowed slightly once again.

She truly couldn't understand what charm Xia Yi possessed that could affect Leng Yaozhu so profoundly.

Looking at Leng Yaozhu's radiant face, for a moment, Yali even felt that Leng Yaozhu looked younger than before.

"Hmph, I'll definitely steal Xia Yi away," Yali silently vowed in her heart.

They were all the same kind of people, so why could Leng Yaozhu joke around so freely with Xia Yi, while she had to constantly handle the tedious affairs of Shrek Academy?

Even with Yun Ming by her side, she didn't feel as happy as Leng Yaozhu did with Xia Yi.

"You two can sort this out yourselves. I'm going to take a shower." After leaving Xia Yi in front of Yali, Leng Yaozhu strode away on her long legs, really leaving just like that.

Casually, she also grabbed Mu Xi and took her along.

Yali was left standing there, utterly bewildered.

"Since when did Leng Yaozhu become so carefree? Is she not worried about Xia Yi being swayed?" Yali couldn't help but mumble to herself.

If Leng Yaozhu knew what Yali was thinking, she would undoubtedly scoff and say, "If you can actually sway him, then I'll consider it your achievement."

"Your Holiness!" Seeing that Leng Yaozhu had truly left him behind, Xia Yi had no choice but to bow respectfully.

Yali quickly stopped Xia Yi from bowing. "No need for formalities. Today's incident was Shrek Academy's fault. On behalf of Shrek, I apologize to you."

Normally, she would have accepted his salute, but today she was here to apologize.

How could she let Xia Yi be so formal under such circumstances?

"Heh, it's no big deal. If anyone dares to act pretentious in front of me, I'll beat the crap out of them," Xia Yi said with a laugh.

"You're not upset?" Yali was taken aback.

"Not upset? If someone was plotting to kill you in secret, could you really not care? Didn't you see how scared I was, hiding in the Spirit Pagoda?" Xia Yi rolled his eyes.

"Can you not be so blunt? You're going to kill the conversation," Yali thought, feeling utterly speechless. She braced herself and explained, "This kind of thing will only happen once. I'm sure the person who ambushed you acted on impulse and must be regretting it now. They definitely won't try something like this again."

"Uh-huh," Xia Yi tilted his head in thought before saying, "I believe there's a 90% chance of that being true. But even if it's 100%, I'm still going to hide. If I stay at a hotel and they act on impulse again and kill me in my sleep, I'm not willing to take that gamble."

Yali fell silent. She realized that although Xia Yi was mocking her on the surface, he was actually warning her.

The person who attacked him might not reflect on their actions just because Shrek Academy protected them.

On the contrary, they might even escalate their actions.

"Let's cut the nonsense. Tell me, what does Shrek need to do for you to let this go?" Yali asked directly.

"If I asked you to hand over the culprit, you definitely wouldn't agree, would you?" Xia Yi asked with a mischievous grin.

Yali fell silent again. After a while, she finally said, "The Pavilion Master said not to investigate further, so there's no way we can pursue this anymore."

"Heh, Shrek Academy sure is..." Xia Yi began but quickly stopped when he saw Yali's furious gaze.

"I've had enough of Leng Yaozhu's sarcasm. Don't you start with me, or I'll vent my anger on you," Yali said, placing her delicate hands on her chest and clenching them tightly, her slender fingers creaking from the force.

"Aren't you supposed to be the kind-hearted support Soul Master?" Xia Yi was stunned. How did she turn into a violent woman all of a sudden?

Seeing her serious expression, he had no doubt she meant every word.

If Yali really pinned him down and beat him up, Leng Yaozhu would probably just find a chair to sit on and enjoy the show.

Seeing that she had finally intimidated Xia Yi, Yali nodded in satisfaction. "Alright, can we get down to business now?"

"Fine. I want Shrek Academy to help me evolve my Martial Soul," Xia Yi finally conceded.

"Evolve your Martial Soul? Are you talking about your fourth tail?" Yali's brows furrowed. "What kind of treasure does it need to evolve?"

She couldn't agree to his request lightly. His second tail required the power of faith, which almost drained her completely. The third tail needed the Ice God's Heart, capable of creating God-Slaying Fixed Soul Ammunition.

The energy required for the fourth tail would undoubtedly be terrifying.

There was no way she could agree to that.

Xia Yi shook his head. "I don't know either. But since arriving in Shrek City, I've felt an energy drawing me in from within Shrek Academy. It's just..."

"Just what?" Yali asked.

"Just that the pull is intermittent. Since I came to Shrek City, I've felt it twice: once the day before the new student assessment and once today in the Soul Battle Arena. I'm certain this power is coming from Shrek Academy," Xia Yi said seriously.

Originally, he came to Shrek City just to try his luck.

To his surprise, the day before the new student assessment, he felt a pull from Shrek Academy while he was sleeping.

However, it lasted less than a second before disappearing.

At first, he thought he was imagining it, but it happened again today in the Soul Battle Arena, coming from Shrek Academy.

Again, it lasted less than a second.

"If you can't specify what it is, I can't fully agree to help you," Yali shook her head. Her bright eyes locked onto Xia Yi as she continued, "Unless you agree to be my student."

"Absolutely not. I, Xia Yi, a man of honor, would never betray my teacher just to evolve my Martial Soul. End of discussion," Xia Yi declared firmly.

"Nowadays, which outstanding Soul Master doesn't have multiple teachers? I'm not asking you to betray Tianfeng. How is that betrayal?" Yali argued, unwilling to give up.

"Heh, having more than one teacher isn't betrayal, but given your relationship with my teacher, agreeing to your request would be the greatest betrayal of all," Xia Yi chuckled slyly.

"Alright, let me ask you another question. In the battle arena, why did you attack Tang Wulin and Yang Nianxia instead of Zheng Yiran, who was frozen?" Yali asked solemnly.

"Are you kidding? Even though someone from your Shrek Academy tried to kill me, that was between the teachers. It has nothing to do with the students. Smashing Tang Wulin and Yang Nianxia was enough to vent my anger. If I had attacked Zheng Yiran, who was frozen, it could have resulted in death. Who would be responsible then, you or me?" Xia Yi rolled his eyes.

Of course, Xia Yi didn't tell Yali that he actually wanted to smash Zheng Yiran, but Yali was right there, and he simply didn't get the chance.

No matter the circumstances, while Yali might allow him to vent his anger, she would never allow him to kill someone.

"One more question. How did you break free from that powerful mental interference?" Yali continued to question.

The fact that Xia Yi survived today was nothing short of a miracle.

Although Yun Ming forbade an investigation, Yali could easily guess who had secretly attacked Xia Yi.

Precisely because she could guess, she was even more shocked. The person who attacked Xia Yi from the shadows was a renowned and powerful figure. Before making a move, they had calculated everything to perfection, including exactly how much mental interference was needed to affect Xia Yi, Tang Wulin, Yang Nianxia, and Shen Yi.

Yet, Xia Yi still managed to break free at the critical moment and escaped death.

Considering Xia Yi's current cultivation level, surviving an attack from someone of that caliber was unbelievable to Yali.

"That's a secret. I can't tell you," Xia Yi replied indifferently.

Yali nodded, not pressing the matter any further.

"I can't fully agree to your request. The only thing I can promise is that once you confirm exactly what item you need for your Martial Soul evolution, I will do my best to help you obtain it." Yali shook her head, her body transforming into dots of holy light that vanished before Xia Yi.

As her figure completely disappeared, her final words echoed, "I won't give up on taking you as my student."

"You just let them off that easily?" Leng Yaozhu appeared behind Xia Yi.

She had taken Mu Xi away to give Xia Yi the opportunity to negotiate with Yali.

She didn't expect Xia Yi to let Yali off so easily.

"There are some things that are better handled personally." Xia Yi sneered. "Shrek Academy might be protecting the culprit, but that doesn't mean I will. Once I find out who tried to kill me today, I'll make sure they regret it."

"Sigh, I never expected the esteemed Skyraising Douluo to act like this." Leng Yaozhu sighed.

"Uh, I'm starting to feel like none of you genuinely admire Skyraising Douluo. It's like you all don't really know what he's up to!" Xia Yi mumbled softly.

"What do you mean by that?" Leng Yaozhu's pupils narrowed slightly.

"Let's just say, Yali is going to regret coming to Spirit Transferring Pagoda soon, mainly because she got scolded by you for nothing." Xia Yi chuckled.
