Chapter 101: Chapter 101: The Extreme North Plateau
Gu You pressed his hands to the ground and slowly pushed himself up. This time, when his soul rings appeared, they did not rise in the usual formation under his feet. Instead, they floated and glowed behind his back like a divine emblem.
It was a sight so striking that anyone witnessing it would be stunned. A terrifying lineup: two black rings, one red ring, and one green ring. Each pulsed with overwhelming energy, and the sheer pressure in the air made even seasoned experts catch their breath.
"His first and second soul rings… they've broken through to the ten-thousand-year level," Ya Li whispered softly, her eyes reflecting a complicated mix of pride and concern. She knew immediately — it must have been Leng Yaozhu who helped Gu You complete this massive upgrade.
The moment Gu You opened his eyes, blinking against the soft golden glow of the Sea God Pavilion chamber, the first figures he saw were those of the Pavilion elders.
"Godmother? Why are you all here?" Gu You asked, his voice carrying a trace of surprise but also warmth.
Ya Li gave him a gentle smile. "It's been a few years since we last met. You've grown much, little one."
Gu You grinned lightly. "Of course! I couldn't just slack off, could I? It's been a while, Godmother…" His tone was easy, but his heart tightened, knowing this reunion could only last a moment.
"You really plan to go?" Ya Li's eyes turned serious. "My ninth soul skill can bring someone back to life, as long as their soul isn't destroyed. If Brother Yun can recover your spirit…"
Gu You's smile faded, and he slowly shook his head. "I have to go, Godmother. I refuse to believe that your ninth soul skill has no cost or side effects. Besides, this is something I must do. Saving them — it's a duty, a matter of righteousness. Even if my luck or character isn't the best, I at least have to keep my sense of duty. Even if there's a chance of falling… I will not run."
Long Yueye watched the exchange silently from the side, her expression unreadable as she lowered her head.
Gu You didn't linger or explain further. He simply gave them a firm wave, then turned and strode away. This battle — he knew he had to win.
Ya Li instinctively reached out as if to stop him but then slowly let her hand fall. She remembered Yun Ming's quiet words to her: 'The young cannot be sheltered forever. Let him go boldly — only by passing through trials and tribulations can he truly be reborn and ascend.'
Far to the north, beyond the known realms, lay the icy edge of the world.
The border of the Extreme North, the coldest place in the Douluo world, loomed like a white wall against the sky. Gu You's journey led him to Linbing City, the last human settlement before the vast, frozen wilderness began.
Disembarking from the soul tool-powered aircraft at Linbing Airport, Gu You took a deep breath, his warm breath misting in the frigid air. Even during the flight, he had not wasted a moment — he practiced diligently, refining his control, preparing his body and mind. And yet, a pang of regret lingered within him. How much time he had squandered in the past, years when he could have trained harder, forged himself stronger! Now, when every ounce of strength mattered, he wished he had been more disciplined.
But regrets were useless now. What mattered was what he did next.
Currently, his spirit power stood at the peak of rank 49, just one step away from advancing to rank 50 and qualifying for his fifth soul ring. And Gu You already had a target in mind — one that lay deep within the Extreme North.
Based on his current soul ring configuration, anything less than a 100,000-year soul ring simply wouldn't do.
Carefully, Gu You inventoried his supplies. He had packed preserved food, sealed water rations, and most critically, he topped off the energy reserves in his soul power milk bottles. Only after checking everything twice did he finally feel satisfied.
"Time to move," he murmured softly, his eyes narrowing as they gazed toward the endless white horizon.
He pulled up his hood, tightened his gloves, and began walking toward the snowy wilderness — toward the legendary Extreme North Plateau.
The Extreme North was not just a frigid wasteland; it was a graveyard for countless adventurers and spirit masters who had dared to challenge its mysteries. The deeper one went, the more the biting cold seeped into one's bones, and the more the spiritual pressure in the air thickened, making it hard to breathe, let alone fight.
But Gu You wasn't just any challenger. He was a rising dragon, his body tempered by battle, his will honed sharper with each trial.
As he trudged forward, the landscape shifted around him. First, there were the ice plains, vast and silent, their surfaces gleaming under the pale sun. Then came the frozen forests, where ancient frost-covered trees creaked like brittle bones in the wind. Farther still lay the glaciers, massive walls of translucent blue ice that loomed like sleeping titans.
Gu You's every step crunched softly in the snow. Yet in his mind, he was utterly focused.
'I cannot fail,' he told himself. 'No matter who I face, no matter what stands in my way — this time, I will bring them home.'
Behind him, the distant warmth of Shrek and his godmother's gentle gaze faded away, replaced by the steel-hard determination carved into his heart.
His journey into the Extreme North had only just begun, but the weight of it — the lives depending on him, the fate resting on his shoulders — made it feel as though he was already carrying a mountain.
For the sake of those who were waiting. For the sake of those who were lost. For the sake of his own honor.
Gu You pressed on.
