Douluo: I'm Invincible

Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Special Training

Chapter 23: Special Training

During the following long-distance run, Gu Yue and Tang Wulin chatted while running, and occasionally talked to Nan Fusheng.

To be honest, Nan Fusheng was a little surprised, but he also understood that this was probably because Gu Yue didn't want to appear too enthusiastic and scare Tang Wulin away. After all, she had come here because of a bet with Na'er.

As for Xie Xie, he wanted to interject from time to time, but every time he spoke to Gu Yue, he was met with eyes that clearly said, "Don't talk to me, you bastard." That left him frustrated yet unwilling to argue. In short: annoying and eager to talk.

When Wu Changkong returned, the running assignment was nearly completed.

"Assemble!"

The students of Class 5 were like a defeated army, dragging their exhausted bodies and barely managing to stand on the playground.

"That's it for this morning. Disband. Gu Yue, stay behind."

It was finally over—what joy!

Nearly all the students ran straight for the dormitory, eager for rest.

Gu Yue's face looked rosier than before thanks to the running.

"My name is Wu Changkong. I'm your homeroom teacher. Here are your dormitory keys, school uniforms, and textbooks. From now on, you're officially a student of Class 5, Grade 1."

"Thank you, Teacher Wu." Gu Yue accepted the items he handed her.

"Rest for now. Class will continue this afternoon."

The afternoon class was still physical training—more painful than the morning session.

Where was the theory class he promised?

Wu Changkong's explanation was brief: "With your current physical state, what theory can you learn?"

Since when had the cold and aloof male god been reasonable?

Running was still manageable, but when it turned into frog jumps, the students collapsed within half an hour.

After a full day of training, these nine-year-old children felt like they were crawling back to the dormitory.

"Tang Wulin, Nan Fusheng, Xie Xie, Gu Yue—come to me after dinner." Wu Changkong's cold voice sounded just as class ended.

Xie Xie leaned on Tang Wulin for support, his legs trembling. Gu Yue was in better shape but still had her hands resting on her knees.

"Again tonight?"

After fighting side-by-side with Nan Fusheng and the others yesterday, the indifference on Xie Xie's face had faded a bit, and he seemed more genuine now. The bratty air of a rich kid was beginning to show again—but thankfully, Wu Changkong was there to keep him in check. Otherwise, he wouldn't have survived even one day of physical training.

"The teacher is doing this for our own good," Tang Wulin said, supporting him.

An hour before dinner, most students fell asleep from exhaustion. Although Nan Fusheng was tired too, he still insisted on meditating. His meditation speed had increased several times.

During the previous class competition, Nan Fusheng had secretly parasitized Class 5 students mid-fight. Later, when Mu Xi brought senior students to threaten Tang Wulin, he had parasitized some of them during the confusion—though not Mu Xi herself. Her father was a Saint Craftsman with ties to a Divine Craftsman, and he didn't want to risk being detected.

Currently, Nan Fusheng had five shallow parasites: senior students. Three were his roommates. As long as they didn't leave Donghai City, he could continue to absorb soul power through them.

Even if he only got half their cultivation energy, senior students were Grand Soul Masters, and their cultivation rate was far better than Soul Masters.

He also wanted to test which class of Soul Master he could parasitize at this stage, to gauge whether he could use soul skills on teachers or other academy students. Even if caught, he'd have some wiggle room.

The teachers at Donghai Academy generally weren't too high in cultivation either, so they made good experimental subjects for now—though he'd stick to students for the time being.

For Nan Fusheng, everything was about survival. He would continue to follow Tang Wulin during the early stages and only start acting independently once he reached Sequence 4 and had enough strength to protect himself.

After dinner, Nan Fusheng was the first to arrive at the playground. Gu Yue was second. Tang Wulin practically dragged Xie Xie there—he had wanted to give up.

By now, the sun was setting, casting a fiery glow across the sky.

Wu Changkong, dressed in black sportswear, still wore his cold expression. Not far off, several senior girls had gathered in small groups, all sneaking glances at him.

"Follow me, all four of you," he said when the last two arrived.

He turned and walked deeper into the academy.

The four students followed, eventually arriving at an indoor training facility located behind the academy. Wu Changkong had been here earlier when meeting Long Hengxu.

After expressing support for Long Hengxu's work and promising not to stir up trouble, the teaching director had given him the green light.

As the department head, Long Hengxu was locked in fierce competition with his counterpart in the senior division. Wu Changkong had been demoted to the intermediate department after clashing violently with that rival—even breaking his leg in the process.

If he could maintain a good relationship with Wu Changkong, Long Hengxu figured he'd earn favor with the dean.

Wu Changkong didn't care about Long Hengxu's motives—as long as his goal was met.

If not for Gu Yue, he wouldn't have compromised so easily—or apologized. But this time, coming to the intermediate division, he had met two students who truly impressed him.

If nurtured properly, they could definitely qualify for that place.

As for the other two, one of them had a benign mutation in his martial spirit. With proper training, he might not be inferior to the others. The last one was a bit unusual and piqued his curiosity—though compared to the others, he was more of a foil for now.

The training ground was circular and protected by a soul shield. It was used for training martial spirits at higher levels of power, where normal playgrounds would easily be destroyed.

Wu Changkong led the four to the center and stopped.

"Starting today, you'll undergo special training with me every night. Work hard for the promotion match in three months."

His gaze fell on Tang Wulin.

"Tang Wulin, your martial spirit is Blue Silver Grass. You were originally chosen as a backup. Now that Gu Yue is here, you've seen her strength and talent. I won't retract my earlier decision, but you need to prove to me that you're truly qualified to represent Class 5. If you can't meet my standards in three months, I'll only send three people."

"Teacher Wu, I won't take his spot in the match."

At that moment, Gu Yue spoke up.
