Chapter 28: Winning Streak (Part 1)

"The first match of the new school year's promotion tournament: Grade 1 Class 4 vs. Grade 1 Class 5 — begin!"

With Long Hengxu's shout, the four students from Grade 1 Class 4 released their spirit rings almost simultaneously.

Four white spirit rings rose beneath their feet. Jia Long, standing at the front, took a step forward. His body expanded slightly as he let out a low growl. His originally brown eyes turned yellow, and his arms grew visibly thicker. With a heavy step, he charged ahead.

Lin Zunyuan muttered something under his breath, and a slender staff appeared in his hand. A ring of light flickered beneath him, and a red glow shot out from the top of the staff, landing directly on Jia Long.

Jia Long's yellow eyes turned a bloodier shade of red, and his body expanded even further. With a terrifying momentum, he charged straight at Tang Wulin.

Moss quickly darted behind Jia Long, using him as cover.

Kato Ying didn't change visibly, but his palm suddenly expanded in size as he rushed straight toward the four of them.

Their coordinated action made it obvious—this wasn't a last-minute group thrown together, as Kong Hanwen had claimed. These four had clearly undergone long-term team training.

Jia Long was a power-attack type Spirit Master, likely with a wolf-type martial soul. Moss was a speed-type, though his spirit was unclear. Lin Zunyuan was an auxiliary-type Spirit Master, and his first soul skill was an amplification buff. Kato Ying was also a power-attack type, but his spirit was extremely rare—a body martial soul. Even Wu Changkong had been surprised when he first saw it.

Two power-attackers, one speed, and one support—a well-balanced and synergistic team.

On the other side, the four from Class 5 didn't immediately release their spirit rings. Instead, aside from Nan Fusheng, Tang Wulin and the others launched forward almost simultaneously.

Xie Xie vanished and reappeared close to Jia Long, who was leading the charge—but instead of attacking, he veered sideways and rushed at Lin Zunyuan in the back.

"Moss!" Jia Long shouted. Moss, who had been hiding behind him, instantly turned and pursued Xie Xie.

Once a speed-type got close to a support-type, the battle would be over in a blink.

As for the other two—Jia Long and Kato Ying were confident they could handle them and lead a counterattack.

First soul skill: Kato Ying's Hand.

When Kato Ying first awakened his martial soul, it was just his fingers.

Later, it fused with a Giant Palm Eagle spirit beast, causing his martial soul to mutate—evolving toward a giant hand. He named his first soul skill "Kato Ying's Hand" as a goal to inspire himself.

His palm expanded again. With one huge sweep, he reached out to grab Gu Yue.

Kato Ying was confident that this strike would turn the girl into a whimpering mess. Unfortunately, his confidence lasted only a second.

A flash of light element exploded right in front of his eyes. He was caught completely off guard, and a blinding pain forced his eyes shut. Tears streamed out uncontrollably. In the next moment, a freezing chill spread through his body—and he lost consciousness.

From the outside, he now looked like a human-shaped popsicle, sparkling under the sun. Gu Yue had hit him with her light element, then froze him while he was blinded.

On the other side, although Jia Long's body had grown significantly under his martial soul's effect, he was still shorter than Tang Wulin. As the distance between them closed, he frowned. Why hadn't this guy even released his martial soul yet?

Then he saw Tang Wulin's fist.

As a power-attack type Spirit Master himself, Jia Long was confident in his strength. He reached out with his right hand, intending to grab Tang Wulin's punch.

But just then, a blur flickered behind Tang Wulin. Jia Long's footing slipped slightly. His claws missed—and Tang Wulin's fist landed square on his chest.

Bang! Jia Long was sent flying back seven or eight meters from that single punch.

At the same time, a blue vine finally snaked across the air—but it vanished quickly.

Because the battle on the other side had also ended.

Xie Xie, after bypassing Jia Long, had accelerated explosively. Though Moss was also a speed-type, his speed wasn't in the same league.

By the time Xie Xie's Light Dragon Dagger struck Lin Zunyuan's forehead, Long Hengxu had already declared Lin Zunyuan out of the match.

Then Xie Xie flipped and landed in front of Moss.

Moss's martial soul was a short sword, somewhat similar to Xie Xie's Light Dragon Dagger. But with only level 13 soul power, this battle had no suspense.

The two clashed once—Xie Xie immediately dodged behind him, and the Light Dragon Dagger pressed against Moss's neck.

Only then did the students from Class 5 release their martial spirits.

White. Yellow. Yellow!

One ten-year soul ring. Two hundred-year soul rings!

Kong Hanwen stared in disbelief.

> "Did that even take ten seconds? Was that even ten seconds?"

And Nan Fusheng—hadn't even made a move!

He wanted to ask Long Hengxu, Are you sure this is really Class 5 of Grade 1 and not Class 1?

Xie Xie curled his lip, walked back to Tang Wulin with a dissatisfied look, and high-fived him.

Only now did the students from Class 5 begin to cheer—no, Class 4 now, technically.

"Class 5 of Grade 1 wins. Until the promotion match ends, you'll remain listed as Class 5. Rankings will be updated after the tournament. Tomorrow, you will face Grade 1 Class 3."

This match wasn't even a crushing victory—because there wasn't even a crushing process. It was effortless. Tang Wulin barely used his martial soul, and Nan Fusheng didn't even get a chance to act. Yet the enemy was already defeated.

Wu Changkong didn't spare Kong Hanwen a single glance. He turned coldly and said, "School is over."

---

Xie Xie walked beside Tang Wulin and sighed, "You know, I think I'm starting to like these promotion match days. No special training at night!"

Because of the tournament, they didn't need to do special training to conserve energy. Xie Xie felt liberated.

"How about we go out and play?" he suggested, nudging Tang Wulin and Nan Fusheng.

Tang Wulin shook his head. "No, the cafeteria's about to open."

Xie Xie groaned. "All you care about is food."

Tang Wulin frowned. "I get hungry if I don't eat!"

"Okay, okay. Let's go out, I'll treat you. I've been stuck on campus too long."

The management at Heaven Dou Intermediate Academy wasn't overly strict. Heaven Dou City had great public security, being a wealthy metropolis.

"Alright." Hearing that someone else was treating, Tang Wulin immediately agreed.

"I'm not going. I still have to train," Nan Fusheng suddenly said.

"Come on, man!" Xie Xie looked at him like he'd just committed heresy. "You finally get a break and you still want to train?"

> "Are you trying to make me look like a lazy bum?"

"A day's plan begins in the morning. There are things I have to finish. You and Wulin can go play with Gu Yue."

Nan Fusheng shook his head, glancing at Gu Yue as she approached.

"Hey, why invite her? This is guy time," Xie Xie protested.

"You sound like you're planning something interesting. Can I come too?" Gu Yue had appeared beside them at some point. She sounded curious—but her tone left no room for refusal.

Nan Fusheng ignored their farce.

His Dream Stealer potion had almost finished digesting. He had to complete the process before the Tianhai Alliance Competition. That was his chance to become half-human, half-god.
