Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Teacher Zhao, Sorry About This!
Ning Rongrong and Zhu Zhuqing had unsurprisingly passed the first entrance exam.
"Hmph, staring at another girl's chest again, and you still say you're not a pervert…"
Xiao Wu rolled her eyes, raised an eyebrow, and scoffed at Dai Mubai.
The first time they met, this golden-haired guy had been ogling her legs. Now, he was gawking at that other girl with her, well, assets.
Tsk tsk, his eyes are practically glued there!
"I'm fifteen this year, not old," Dai Mubai retorted matter-of-factly, shaking his head.
"???"
Without waiting for a reply, Dai Mubai turned and walked into the academy, completely ignoring Xiao Wu.
He already knew the situation with the four of them, but the necessary procedures couldn't be skipped.
The group exchanged glances, momentarily stunned, but said nothing further and quietly followed him.
Zhu Zhuqing's face remained icy, her gaze fixed on Dai Mubai's back. A flicker of complexity flashed in her eyes. She knew that Dai Mubai had recognized her.
After a short walk, Dai Mubai led them to the second stage: the spirit power test.
Perhaps because some time had already passed, there was no one left here except for the examiner, Lu Qibin.
"Well, Mubai, we've got quite a crop of little monsters this year! How long has it been, and you've already brought four more?" Lu Qibin joked with a smile.
Among the applicants, students over Level 20 at the age of twelve were not uncommon. Dai Mubai had already brought several over before.
But applicants over Level 25 at that age? They were almost unheard of.
While many could pass the first entrance exam, very few made it through the third test.
"Teacher Lu, help them test their spirit power. I think they can all skip the third test directly," Dai Mubai said confidently.
Anyone above Level 25 could skip the third stage entirely and proceed straight to the fourth stage: the combat test.
The entrance exams at Shrek Academy were unique. Applicants needed to meet these conditions:
Be under twelve years old.Have spirit power above Level 20.Pass both the spirit power control and combat tests to officially enroll.
With such stringent requirements, geniuses like this could excel anywhere.
So why would they come to Shrek Academy, a place with strong teachers but little in the way of resources or guidance?
Tang San's reason was to obtain spirit rings with help from others.
Dai Mubai's reason was to escape the assassins sent by Davis.
Zhu Zhuqing came because of Dai Mubai…
As for Ning Rongrong? She came because she thought it'd be fun.
Hearing Dai Mubai's comment, Lu Qibin's eyes lit up. Were there truly a few little monsters this time?
"Great! Fantastic! I bet Flender will be grinning ear to ear…"
"Alright, let's test their spirit power."
Lu Qibin brought out a crystal sphere. This one was slightly larger than the ones used during spirit awakening.
Tang San and Xiao Wu were no strangers to it. When they went to the Spirit Hall for their spirit master stipends, they had used a similar-sized crystal ball to test their power.
With her lively personality, Xiao Wu was, of course, the first to step up and place her hand on the crystal.
In an instant, the crystal sphere glowed brightly, almost to the point of overflowing.
"Level 29? Little girl, your talent is extraordinary!"
"Well, obviously!" Xiao Wu replied, brimming with confidence.
The second to test was Tang San, whose spirit power also reached Level 29.
Seeing this, Lu Qibin's eyes practically sparkled with excitement!
A boy and girl with spirit power levels this high at their entrance test—this was unprecedented in the history of Shrek Academy.
No one had ever surpassed this standard before!
The third to test was Ning Rongrong. However, her result slightly disappointed Lu Qibin, as her spirit power was only at Level 26.
The first two were Level 29, but now there's only a Level 26. The greater the expectation, the greater the disappointment.
Zhu Zhuqing was the last to test. Her spirit power level, as in the original story, reached Level 27.
Lu Qibin took a moment to calm himself and ease his excitement before addressing Dai Mubai.
"Mubai, take them straight to the fourth test. It looks like we really might get some little monsters enrolling this year!"
"Understood, Teacher Lu," Dai Mubai replied with a nod.
Without further words, he turned and led the group to the venue for the fourth stage.
If all went as expected, Zhao Wuji would take his place as the examiner for this stage.
This arrangement suited Dai Mubai just fine—no need for him to personally act, and it would keep Tang Hao from coming after him later for troubling his junior.
As for Tang San, anyone intending to cause him trouble would need to wait until the Continental Advanced Spirit Master Academy Elite Tournament.
By that time, Tang San would have gained the Deathgod Domain, and Tang Hao would be severely injured, losing an arm and a leg, with his spirit power reduced to Level 79.
Such was the result of insufficient strength. If only strength were not an issue...
Lu Qibin watched Dai Mubai and the others depart, a hint of doubt flashing across his face as he murmured to himself:
"How strange. Ever since Mubai returned from Soto City last time, he's been quieter, more reserved."
For someone to change so drastically in such a short time, there were two possibilities: either they had grown stronger, or they had completely given up.
Dai Mubai didn't seem to show signs of despair, so the answer was likely the first.
Shrek Academy's facilities weren't much to speak of. The buildings were mostly small wooden huts, sufficient to block the wind and rain, but offering little else.
Before long, Dai Mubai led Tang San and the others to a spacious open area.
There, a burly middle-aged man was reclining on a rocking chair with his eyes closed, seemingly enjoying a nap. His build was imposing, though his height was notably average.
"Teacher Zhao, these four have all qualified to skip the third test, and two of them have even reached Level 29," Dai Mubai said as he stepped forward.
Before he could finish, the man in the chair—Zhao Wuji—opened his eyes. A flash of golden light flickered within them.
Four above Level 25?
And two at Level 29?
"Not bad, not bad!"
"Xiao Bai, go ahead and explain my rules to them. I'll personally conduct this fourth test!"
Within the entire Shrek Academy, Dai Mubai was closest not to Li Yusong, Lu Qibin, or even Flender, but to this fierce-looking Zhao Wuji.
"This is exactly what I was waiting for!"
Teacher Zhao! I'm sorry in advance—you're definitely not escaping tonight's beating, Dai Mubai thought to himself, keeping his face perfectly neutral.
"Teacher Zhao, isn't this against the rules?" Dai Mubai feigned a clueless expression.
"Hmph! The headmaster's not here. The vice headmaster's in charge! My word is the rule!" Zhao Wuji declared.
With that, he pulled out a stick of incense from who-knows-where, lit it with a flick of his fingers, and threw it onto a nearby wall, where it stuck firmly.
"You have until this incense burns out to discuss your strategy for dealing with me. When it's burned through, the fourth test will officially begin."
"As long as one of you can hold out against me until the incense is fully burned, you'll pass the test!"
After making his announcement, Zhao Wuji folded his arms, closed his eyes again, and pretended to be a serene master.
His effortless display left Tang San and the others stunned.
