Chapter 6: Chapter 5: Second Soul Ring
Yuhao had snapped out of his shock a while ago. Now he was chatting with Tang Ya about her new soul skill.
"So... Sister Xiao Ya, your new soul ring not only gives you a healing-type soul skill and strengthens your martial soul, but it also helps you cultivate faster because your body became stronger from the vitality boost?" he summarized. That was... impressive. How could a single third soul ring improve her so much?
'Young Yuhao, it's likely because her vitality was severely lacking before. Her first two soul rings were unsuitable, forcing her martial soul to overdraw her natural talent to compensate. The third soul ring helped balance this,' Electrolux explained.
'Wait, just balanced? Not completely fixed?' Yuhao asked.
'Correct. She'll need to absorb soul rings with higher vitality than normal, or consume rare vitality-type treasures to reach her full potential,' Electrolux clarified.
While Tang Ya proudly showed off her improvements and Bei Bei watched her affectionately, Yuhao was considering his recent system reward.
'I never expected the system to count the soul ring as an investment!' Yuhao thought excitedly.
'Indeed, that was surprising,' Electrolux agreed. They'd all been shocked when the system recognized the soul ring as an investment. The system explained it was because Yuhao could have killed the spirit beast alone, convinced Tang Ya to choose it, and she credited him for the decision - all factors that qualified it as an investment.
As for what he'd gained:
[Skill: Super Regeneration
This skill allows the user to heal any injury including blood loss, wounds, and even missing limbs as long as the user is alive and has enough soul power or other energy sources. If no energy is available, the user can temporarily overdraw their body to heal, shortening lifespan. Lifespan can be restored by replenishing equivalent energy.]
Electrolux had called this a near-divine skill. Yuhao didn't fully understand such high-level concepts yet - he was just a kid focused on revenge. But he knew this would dramatically improve his training efficiency and survival chances.
_______
"Junior Brother Yuhao," Bei Bei called. The trio were now in another forest area, hiding while Yuhao's Spiritual Detection monitored their surroundings. Their focus was on a small silver-white fox with beautiful fur and purple eyes - a 2000+ year old spiritual-type spirit beast.
"I can sense its spiritual fluctuations... but what kind of spirit beast is that?" Tang Ya whispered.
"I don't know," Bei Bei admitted. He couldn't possibly memorize every entry in the Spirit Beast Encyclopedia.
'That's a Blue Silver Eye Fox,' Skydream chimed in helpfully. 'It creates realistic illusions. While physically weak, its mental attacks are top-tier - damage taken in its illusions can manifest in reality. Fur color indicates age: blue for century-old, silver for thousand-year, white for ten-thousand-year, and so on.'
"It doesn't matter, Senior Brother, Sister Xiao Ya," Yuhao said. "I'm choosing it as my soul ring. Spiritual-type beasts are too rare - I might not find another suitable one."
Bei Bei hesitated but eventually nodded. Spiritual-type spirit beasts were indeed exceptionally rare.
Just as Bei Bei prepared to attack, fourteen hidden weapons from Tang Sect (gifted to Yuhao by Tang Ya) suddenly flew out, instantly piercing through the fox's skull.
"What? I don't take chances," Yuhao said matter-of-factly, seeing their shocked and bewildered expressions.
"If you can finish a fight instantly, why drag it out and risk counterattacks from enemies who want to kill you?" This philosophy of his that was pretty much unorthodox came from combining Skydream's bitter experiences and Electrolux's battle wisdom.
"That's..." Both Tang Ya and Bei Bei were speechless at the anticlimactic battle as Yuhao calmly sat beside the corpse to absorb the purple soul ring.
'But fourteen?!' was Tang Ya and Bei Bei's real question, why use all fourteen?!
"Wait! Yuhao! That's over 2000 years old!" Bei Bei protested suddenly realising- too late.
Exchanging resigned yet worried looks, Bei Bei and Tang Ya stood guard... for all of ten minutes until Yuhao finished absorption effortlessly.
"...Am I the one with the beast martial soul here, or are you?" Bei Bei asked incredulously. Normally, stronger physical fitness allowed absorbing higher-level soul rings faster.
(Seven Coloured Lightning: I'm just that awesome!)
"I'm talented," Yuhao replied simply, unintentionally wounding Bei Bei - whose innate spirit power level of 9 had made him the top talent of his generation, only surpassed by Zhang Lexuan.
Tang Ya turned away to hide her laughter. No one had ever dared say that to Bei Bei before!
Yuhao didn't actually consider himself talented and he truly wasn't, after all, it it took him five years to go from Level 1 to 10 and his innate soul power was only Level 1 too, but what else could he say? That he had a system, a million-year spirit beast, and a god in his head? "Talented" was the safer answer.
"Little Yuhao, what's your soul power level now?" Tang Ya asked curiously, ignoring the depressed "Perverted Brother."
She handed him a soul power testing Soul Guide(effective up to level 30). As Yuhao channeled his soul power, the display flashed - 24.
"Wow! Level 24! That's amazing! You went from level 10 just hours ago!" Tang Ya said, she was envious of course but, she was also genuinely happy for him while patting herself on the back for recognizing his potential.
Yuhao had initially been worried about unstable foundations from such rapid growth, but Electrolux reassured him. His 14 new levels came from soul rings containing pure, condensed energy from the Spirit Beasts- making them as stable as naturally cultivated power.
"Little Yuhao, can you tell us your second soul skill?" Tang Ya asked eagerly before Bei Bei stopped her - asking about others' soul skills was rude.
"It's fine," Yuhao said. "My second soul skill is 'Mind Veil.' I can create illusionary disguises or pull someone into realistic illusions. If their mental power is weaker, illusionary damage can slightly affect reality." He left out the deadlier aspect - with enough mental power, he could directly damage souls.
