Chapter 8: Chapter 7: Shrek Academy
After passing the entrance test, Yuhao—now holding his dorm keys—entered the luxurious Shrek Academy grounds alongside Bei Bei and Tang Ya. The sprawling campus with its ornate buildings and lush training fields stretched farther than he could see.
"Is this... Shrek?" Yuhao gasped, his usual composed demeanor shattered by the sheer scale of everything. The main hall's golden roof glittered so brightly it hurt his eyes.
Tang Ya grinned at his awestruck expression. "Yes! Now you're officially a Shrek student!" She poked his cheek playfully, delighted to see the normally mature boy finally reacting like the child he was.
"Perverted Brother," Yuhao pointed toward the central plaza, "who are those?" His finger indicated three towering statues flanked by seven equally huge statues behind those ones.
Bei Bei straightened instinctively. "The central figure is Master Yu Xiaogang, founder of our theoretical framework. The left statue is Dean Flender, and right is Dean Liu Erlong—the three who established Shrek Academy ten thousand years ago." His voice carried deep reverence. "Those seven behind them are the original Shrek Seven Devils who brought glory to our name, it's said that they became Gods."
"Oh." Yuhao nodded. Just yesterday, this sight might have overwhelmed him, but after hosting Electrolux—whose system designation as a "Second Class God" left no doubt about his divinity—his vision had greatly changed. While he respected these legendary historical figures, part of him now quietly believed he could surpass them or atleast reach their level. He swears that if he fails to become a god? He'll dig up the Duchess's entire ancestral graveyard... Actually, he might do that regardless once he had the power.
Tang Ya poked his cheek. "How boring!" she complained while pouting as they moved toward the crowded notice board where class assignments were posted.
Squinting from quite a distance away, Yuhao activated his Spirit Eyes. "Huo Yuhao... Class 9 - Mu Jin." He read.
"Teacher Mu Jin, that's wonderful!" Tang Ya clapped. "She actually cares about students and is protective, unlike that Old Witch Zhou Yi who's also teaching freshmen this year after being demoted for expelling almost the entire year 4 last time."
"Zhou Yi is a bit strict but... she's a good teacher." Bei Bei tried to defend but a blank stare from Tang Ya made him sign in defeat, "Zhou Yi... isn't that good of a teacher..." He finally said as Tang Ya smiled brightly.
"Junior Brother, let's get you settled." Bei Bei guided him toward the dorms, separating from Tang Ya who needed to take her fourth-year advancement exams. "Okay, Perverted Brother." Yuhao's automatic reply made Bei Bei freeze mid-step.
By the freshman dormitory entrance, an elderly man with a face so wrinkled that it could crush things snapped his eyes open at the nickname. His sharp gaze locked onto Bei Bei, who pretended not to notice and fled toward the purple-colored senior dorms.
"...Weird," Yuhao muttered, watching Bei Bei's abrupt panicked departure.
Approaching the old man, Yuhao bowed slightly. "Good afternoon, sir. I'm a new student, Huo Yuhao." Manners mattered—except toward hypocrites, whom he'd happily beat up.
The old man's wrinkles rearranged into a slight smile. "Polite lad. Your badge and key." After inspecting them he nodded and said, "Room 108, third door on the left from where I'm seated on the first floor. Women's dorms start on the fourth floor. Boys caught trespassing will be expelled without doubt." He leaned forward suddenly. "You can call me Old Mu. Now...could you tell me why 'Perverted Brother'?"
Yuhao's expression didn't flicker. "My apologies, Old Mu. That's a private joke between us—just a silly joke." He wouldn't betray Bei Bei's embarrassing moment.
"Integrity too. If any of the staff at Shrek give you trouble, tell them to give Old Mu some face." Though confused by the odd privilege, Yuhao bowed properly before heading inside.
Old Mu watched him go, stroking his wispy beard. "...Will he actually use that privilege, I wonder?" The academy's most reclusive powerhouse had just offered unprecedented protection on a whim since he was his junior's friend after all. "But really, why 'Perverted Brother'?" Age and weakness hadn't weakened his gossipy soul.
Unaware he'd been handed a privilege only one other person had in the academy, Yuhao pushed open his dorm room to find layers of dust coating every surface.
'Electrolux... That Old Mu is powerful, isn't he?' Yuhao asked, he had been resisting the urge to scan him with the System. The old man wasn't an enemy, ally, or investment target—just someone who deserved basic respect.
'Indeed. Though age has weakened him, his current strength surpasses mine—approximately Level 97,' Electrolux estimated. Yuhao had sensed Old Mu's extraordinary presence but the way he had especially given him an offer to intervene with staff had given him more confidence in his conjecture.
'LEVEL 97?!' Yuhao and Skydream screamed internally in unison.
'At his prime, he likely reached Level 99,' Electrolux added, provoking even high pitched mental shrieks.
Shaking off the revelation, Yuhao rolled up his sleeves. Whatever reasons a former Level 99 Titled Douluo had for guarding dorms didn't concern him yet. He took out a bucket and rag from his storage guide and filled the bucket from the hallway pump and began scrubbing.
One hour later, the room was almost sparkling. Yuhao smoothed the quilt Bei Bei had provided over his chosen bed when his stomach growled loudly. Time for dinner.
"Old Mu! Good evening!" Yuhao called cheerfully while jogging toward the cafeteria. The old man's chuckle followed him—wistful, as if remembering his own youth.
Upon entering the cafeteria, it's lack of seating baffled Yuhao. Did students really eat standing up? He decided he'd buy folding furniture once he earned some money. At the counter, he surveyed options: the free nutrient-balanced but bland meal, versus increasingly expensive spirit beast meat dishes. Selecting a modest one-silver-coin plate—decent but not extravagant—he ate quickly.
Returning to his dorm, he exchanged another greeting with Old Mu downstairs before settling cross-legged on his bed to train.
'Yuhao,' Electrolux's voice resonated in his mind, 'shall I teach you those techniques I mentioned?'
