Chapter 137: Journey to Tian Dou, Missions in the Light and Shadows
Inside the carriage, the three of them chatted casually about the latest news and rumors from across the continent, looking forward to their upcoming journey.
However, not even fifteen minutes had passed when Dugu Yan, whose hair had begun to take on a more crimson hue, entered from the driver's seat.
"Han Li, I heard from Grandpa that our first stop is Tian Dou City? You officially took on a mission, so you can appear publicly now, and Grandpa is also planning to reveal his status. That means I can finally go see LingLing, right?"
Dugu Yan stopped before him, visibly excited. She had been waiting for this moment every time she returned to Tian Dou City before, various circumstances had prevented her from meeting her best friend.
For over four years, she and Ye LingLing had only communicated through letters, and she could barely remember what she looked like.
Han Li glanced at her exasperatedly, and sure enough, he heard soft laughter from Shui Bing'er and Xiu'er beside him.
Just minutes ago, he had been saying "Fate will guide us," and now his supposed mystery had already been exposed.
"Of course you can. Actually, you could've gone before there was no need to hide. It's not like Tian Dou Empire would dare show Grandpa any disrespect."
Han Li nodded, pulling her into his arms and playing with her hair absentmindedly.
"It's Grandpa's fault. He kept saying Prince Xue Xing saved his life, so he insisted on repaying the favor, delaying things until now. But at least the debt has been settled now."
Dugu Yan shifted slightly, finding a more comfortable position in his embrace, showing no concern as he twirled her hair between his fingers.
Meanwhile, Shui Bing'er and Xiu'er watched without any reaction.
They had already grown used to it.
After four years of living together, their relationship had changed.
It wasn't just about fighting side by side their bond had deepened in ways that words couldn't fully capture.
In private, both Bing'er and Xiu'er had also shared intimate moments with Han Li, though they were more reserved compared to Dugu Yan, who openly displayed her affection.
Hearing her words, Han Li couldn't help but smirk.
Dugu Bo was... well, Dugu Bo.
How should he put it? The old man might have been a bit eccentric, but when it came to repaying kindness, he was ridiculously stubborn.
He had originally planned to move to Spirit City after six months, but Prince Xue Xing had found ways to keep him around.
And the prince? He was cunning.
He knew Dugu Bo's personality and used it to keep him in Tian Dou City, treating him with the utmost respect while ensuring no major favors were needed only small acts of assistance, making it difficult for Dugu Bo to find a way to repay the debt.
Eventually, Han Li himself got fed up and, out of the kindness of his heart, summoned his little "son".
The result?
A seemingly ordinary unicorn horse suddenly went berserk, nearly goring Prince Xue Xing's kidney.
If not for Dugu Bo being nearby, fully treating the wound and using precious medicinal herbs, the prince would have lost his kidney permanently.
Of course, after that incident, Dugu Bo considered the debt repaid and promptly left, ignoring any attempts to make him stay.
And now, as Dugu Yan had just said, he was finally making his allegiance to Spirit Hall public.
"Alright. Once we reach Tian Dou City, Grandpa will reveal his identity, and then you can go see her however you like."
"Mhm! I'll bring Bing'er and Xiu'er along too. I doubt we have any interest in meeting the Tian Dou Crown Prince anyway."
Han Li chuckled as he turned to Shui Bing'er and Xiu'er, gauging their thoughts.
"The famous Nine Heart Begonia Soul Master? I've heard a lot about her from Yan Jie. I'd like to meet her too."
Shui Bing'er nodded. Compared to official duties, she was more interested in getting to know Ye LingLing.
"I don't mind either way. Whatever Han Li decides."
Xiu'er's response was indifferent she had no real interest in either option, so she left the decision to him.
"You're not going?"
Dugu Yan shifted, tilting her head to look at him.
"LingLing is a beautiful girl, you know. She always wears a veil, and she's very low key, which is why she isn't that well known. If you don't go, don't blame me if you regret it later."
Her playful eyes gleamed with mischief.
"Since you put it that way, I'll leave it to you."
Han Li pinched her cheek with a laugh.
"Besides, I have official duties. Once my identity is public, I'll be under constant surveillance I won't have the same freedom as you."
Yes Han Li was on a mission, both open and secret.
Publicly, as Spirit Hall's Holy Son, he was making his first official appearance, representing Spirit Hall's friendly stance toward Tian Dou Empire.
Spirit Hall had always taken a neutral, stabilizing role favoring Tian Dou while keeping Xing Luo in check.
And Han Li's backstory fit the narrative perfectly a Spirit Hall orphan, originally from Tian Dou Empire, with a noble title as a Viscount.
More importantly?
Even though it had been years, Tian Dou Empire's blunders during his childhood were not forgotten.
It was perfectly reasonable for the Holy Son of Spirit Hall to visit and question their past decisions.
Thus, it became his first public task.
Privately, however, he carried a direct order from Qian Daoliu to meet with Qian Renxue.
And the mission?
To push her to force her to act.
If possible, convince her to abandon her infiltration and return to train seriously.
Qian Daoliu had personally watched Han Li and his companions skyrocket to Soul King level, and despite believing Qian Renxue was destined to become a god, he was getting anxious.
But Qian Renxue? She refused to listen stubbornly insisting on continuing her undercover mission.
So Han Li's job?
Fight her.
Yes straight up beat her down.
It was as simple as that.
Qian Daoliu had already briefed him on her true identity the previous Pope's daughter, planted as a sleeper agent in Tian Dou Empire.
Of course, he omitted some key details he conveniently left out who her mother was or what Qian Xunji had done.
When Han Li pretended to be shocked upon hearing the truth, he also mentioned his past encounter with Xue Qinghe, making sure to use a false name in his story.
Qian Daoliu, amused, had confirmed that Guang Ling's request for an immortal herb years ago had been for Qian Renxue.
So when the time came, he told Han Li
"Don't hold back. Beat some sense into her however you can."
Han Li had to admit Titled Douluo grandfathers were something else.
Dugu Bo refused to give his granddaughter an external spirit bone.
Qian Daoliu?
He personally ordered someone to beat up his granddaughter.
"Grandfathers on this continent sure are... intense."
