Dragon Ball Human

Chapter 120: Chapter 120: Drowsiness

In the clearing near the center of the island, a group of survivors, once a dozen or so, had now dwindled down to only six or seven, huddled together for a brief rest.

From the anxious expressions on their faces, it was clear they could all feel each other's fear. After the irritating, temperamental little boy had left, they followed the old man with the bear-like figure into the depths of the island. But soon after, someone mysteriously fell behind. The last thing heard before they disappeared was a brief, startled scream. When they were found nearby, they were already a lifeless body, the chest bearing a bloody hole.

"Ugh..."

Among the group of six or seven, one person couldn't hold back and began sobbing softly.

The pessimistic mood quickly spread, and soon the sobbing grew louder. Even the two men—one a large, grizzled old man with gray-white fur and the other a young man with a gloomy expression—had uneasy looks on their faces. The old man sighed deeply and rubbed his reddened eyes.

"Why are you crying?" the gloomy young man scolded.

"But what should we do? It's so scary..." a woman cried as she wiped her tears. "Are we going to die too? I don't want to die... ugh... ugh..."

"Man-eating monsters... Old Bear, what should we do?"

The old man sighed again. "All we can do now is stick together, never separate. We'll go find some materials and make weapons or tools. Whether it's cannibals or monsters, even if we're going to die, we can't do so without fighting back. Let's hope we can hold out until help arrives."

"Old Bear, there's still someone on this island, right?" The young man suddenly said, "And they're very strong."

"You're talking about that strange boy, right?" The old man muttered, "But we don't even know if he's still alive."

"That little brat, he's probably already had his heart ripped out and died, right?" The woman, looking disheveled, spat venomously. "He was stronger than Old Bear, but he left us behind. Because of him, so many of us have died! It would be best if he's already dead!"

Although the others didn't dare to speak in agreement, their frantic expressions clearly carried thoughts like "If that strong boy was here with us..." or "It's his fault."

Suddenly, a rustling sound nearby startled everyone. However, it quickly became apparent that it was just a wild rabbit, causing them all to relax.

The rabbit, equally startled, quickly retreated into the bushes and disappeared.

The old man asked if anyone was hungry and suggested they go together to find something to eat.

---

Yamiru threw a stone with force, hitting the hopping wild rabbit's head with pinpoint accuracy. His technique was sharp—something honed from wilderness survival. He could tell from the sound of the stone striking the rabbit's skull that it had cracked open, ensuring it was dead on the spot.

But as Yamiru went to collect the carcass, a group of people approached. They looked tired, some were bloodied, and upon seeing Yamiru picking up the rabbit, they all seemed visibly relieved. The woman who had cursed him earlier shouted, "Great!"

"You're still alive, lucky you," the gloomy young man said first.

He had expected Yamiru to be puzzled and ask, "Lucky, what do you mean?" That way, he could explain the danger of the island's cannibals and monsters and try to bring Yamiru over to their side. Given the boy's earlier display of strength and his skill in hunting the rabbit, he would be a useful bodyguard.

Instead... Yamiru, holding the rabbit, gave them a cold look and then turned to leave, as if he hadn't heard the young man's words.

"Hey! Wait!" The gloomy young man didn't expect this reaction. He reached out to shout, but by the time he did, Yamiru had already disappeared into the forest, taking his catch with him.

The woman in the group screamed angrily, "That damn little bastard! Why doesn't he just go die? It'd be best if his heart got ripped out by the cannibals soon!"

"..." The old man stared in the direction Yamiru had disappeared. "Let's go back to the beach."

---

"Ripping out hearts, cannibals?" Yamiru vaguely overheard the woman's curses, gaining a bit of new information.

He climbed up a tall tree, scanning the surroundings with his sharp eyes. Unfortunately, even with his keen vision, he couldn't spot anything resembling a humanoid presence indicative of the so-called cannibal tribe.

"Cannibals, heart-ripping…"

Yamiru walked towards the shore, thinking to himself, "The woman with the goat's head who was pierced by the wooden spear... she wasn't heart-ripped, and her body wasn't taken away either... Also, the person who threw the spear disappeared in a flash, I didn't even get a good look at what their energy signature was like."

He returned to the shore where he had been crafting the raft, set up a roasting rack, and skillfully processed the wild rabbit before starting the fire. While the meat roasted, he continued weaving the rope.

"Hmm?"

Yamiru looked up and saw the same group of six or seven people he had encountered earlier coming out of the woods, heading back towards the half-sunken shipwreck about a kilometer away. He had purposely chosen to stay far from them. His sole focus now was to leave, with no energy left to care about others.

During the time he spent under the Shen's influence, he was nearly driven mad. Shen and Tao Pai Pai had taken turns performing various outrageous acts in front of him every day, behaving arrogantly. Sometimes, Yamiru suspected they were deliberately humiliating him, doing things they wouldn't have otherwise, pushing him to extreme limits. When he thought about this, it felt as though whenever he slipped into self-blame, it was exactly what the two old bastards wanted. They wanted him to abandon his inner conscience, forcing him to endure extreme pain just so they could live more comfortably.

Living was a torment; seeking death was unsatisfactory; wanting freedom was like seeking death.

During his weakest and most helpless period, Yamiru didn't even dare to raise his head to face anyone. It felt like if he looked at someone for too long, Tao Pai Pai would tear him apart the next moment...

"...Hey, hey! Are you listening?"

The voice snapped Yamiru out of his thoughts. He was jolted into cold sweat and, before he realized what was happening, instinctively slammed the person speaking into the ground. His knee pressed against the struggling figure while one hand gripped their throat and the other formed a claw, nearly pushing into the person's terrified eyes.

The gloomy young man was terrified, his face drained of color. He couldn't understand why the boy, who had previously seemed so passive and easy to provoke, suddenly turned violent at his interruption, as if he was about to kill him. As he looked into the boy's cold, unblinking eyes, he felt that those golden eyes weren't even focused on him.

"…"

Yamiru realized he had lost control. His body went limp as he exhaled, releasing his grip and returning to the campfire without saying a word.

The gloomy young man had initially wanted to try his luck, hoping the boy might share some food with them, but now, he dared not speak to the boy again. He finally understood that the boy's earlier warning—"Don't bother me! Be careful, or I'll kill you!"—wasn't an empty threat. This boy really would kill. He had almost killed him just now.

After the gloomy young man left, Yamiru put down the rope.

The rabbit on the roasting rack had a slightly charred skin, and the fire crackled as the wood popped and sizzled.

Yamiru covered his face, punching the ground repeatedly. After a long sigh, he hugged his legs and remained silent. After a while, a strange cry mixed with the sound of waves caught his attention. He looked up, wiped his eyes, and saw the shark fin reappear in the distance.

"Do you really want me to eat you that badly?" Yamiru forced a smile, trying to shake off his previous bad mood. He picked up a piece of dirt and tossed it in the shark's direction. "Go away, I'm in a good mood today, I don't want to eat you."

---

"By now, you should be familiar with the distance, so let's continue!"

"Don't mess it up completely, haha."

"It shouldn't be completely ruined..."

---

Yamiru made quick progress with the raft.

Given his strength and stamina, his skills weren't top-notch, but they were certainly impressive.

The next day, in the evening, by the seaside.

"Hey."

Yamiru tightly tied the final rope.

The raft was almost complete.

Now, he just needed to gather some food and fresh water from the island, or find some water-rich wild fruits, and he would be ready to set sail.

"I'm almost free."

Yamiru couldn't help but feel a rare sense of excitement, his steps lighter than before. He ventured deeper into the forest, first picking some fruit from a familiar spot, packing them in a coarse cloth he found near the wreckage of the passenger ship, and slinging the bundle over his shoulder. Wanting to have a hearty meal before setting off, he decided to hunt a couple of wild animals, so he ventured further into the forest.

Soon, he heard screams and startled shouts.

"Is anyone still alive..." Yamiru silently thought.

In fact, after two days and one night, most of the initial group of stranded survivors had perished. The situation with the island's so-called cannibal natives remained a mystery. They seemed to relentlessly hunt the survivors, but Yamiru had never encountered them. It was as though the natives could sense the strength of their prey and intentionally avoided him.

"Help..." The voice of someone fleeing in panic reached Yamiru's ears. It wasn't the elderly man, the "Bear Leader," whom Yamiru had expected to survive, but the gloomy young man, his face ashen. Upon seeing Yamiru ahead, the young man seemed to grasp onto him like a last lifeline, desperately running towards him, waving his arms and shouting for help.

"Teach me... please, save me..."

"Please spare us... please..."

Yamiru suddenly felt a sharp headache, ghostly cries echoing in his ears.

He clenched his teeth, his expression growing increasingly twisted, and then, he saw it. A bloodied wooden spear had pierced the gloomy young man's chest, just like the incident he witnessed yesterday! Yamiru furrowed his brows and used his sharp vision to focus on the scene. Not far behind the young man's fallen body, stood a short "native" with a crudely crafted wooden mask, completely naked.

"..." Yamiru widened his eyes.

The short, masked native didn't speak. He walked over to the body, stepped forward to pull out the spear, flicking off the blood droplets before turning to look at Yamiru, who stood frozen.

"..." The native pointed the wooden spear at Yamiru. "Uwah!"

With a forceful throw, the spear shot through the air like a black line.

"Damn it!"

Yamiru shouted in frustration, tossing the bundle of wild fruit aside and sprinting in the opposite direction, the spear "thunking" as it embedded itself into the ground where Yamiru had been standing moments earlier.

"Why! Why! Damn it!!"

Yamiru ran as fast as he could, his heart aching, tears uncontrollably streaming from his eyes.

The spear was pulled from the ground, and the short native, now unmasked, walked over to the body, stepping on it to remove the spear, flicking off the blood before turning to face the retreating Yamiru.

---

High above, Master Shen floated in the air.

"Tao Pai Pai, this kid is heading toward the raft, hurry up and catch up with him." He communicated through telepathy with the two on the island below. "He's finally gathered some courage, carefully kindling a tiny hope. If we don't extinguish it, wouldn't that be a shame?"

"Hahaha! brother, you're really ruthless!" Tao Pai Pai's voice echoed in the telepathic link, filled with malicious laughter. "But it's so amusing! I can't wait to see the look on his face!"

"Look? I believe Tien Shinhan seen it already." Master Crane smirked. "Now we can confirm it—this kid's eyes... they can really see ki! Quite the nice superpower, huh? Tien Shinhan, what do you think?"

"..."

On the island, Tien Shinhan, now maskless, silently walked towards the beach, holding the wooden spear. He felt a bit sorry for Yamiru. The kid was probably feeling utterly hopeless right now.

---

Yamiru ran at full speed to the beach, nearly delirious, pushing the raft into the water. Just as he was about to set off, a loud crash rang out as a heavy object fell from the sky, smashing the raft into pieces! Yamiru was thrown into the water, coughing up seawater, when suddenly he saw a shark swimming nearby... It grinned at him with a surprisingly human expression.

Rolling out of the water, Yamiru lay on the ground, coughing.

"So it's you," he murmured, "Should've said something earlier."

That shark... It was the same one that had chased him across the strait to Papaya Island over a year ago for the martial arts tournament.

"What are you mumbling about? Could it be you were thinking of me?" Tao Pai Pai's voice drifted closer, full of mocking laughter.

Yamiru ignored him, lying still like a corpse. His eyes barely focused on the pieces of the raft floating near the body of the elderly man.

Tao Pai Pai sneered and used his foot to drag Yamiru's body, lifting him into the air and delivering several strikes, finally kicking him away.

"Didn't you want to run? Run!"

Yamiru rolled far away, leaving a trail of blood in the sand. Half of his body was submerged in the sea, and he saw the shark once again swimming close to him.

Boom! A flash of white light skimmed past Yamiru's head, plunging into the water. Yamiru felt the water around him heat up. Using his sharp vision, he locked eyes with the shark, sending a mental warning for it to leave. The shark, clearly receiving the intense message, showed a puzzled expression before swimming in a few circles and finally leaving.

Splash!

Yamiru was suddenly grabbed by the foot and dangled in front of Tao Pai Pai, who held him above the ground. Saltwater dripped down his body as he lay limply, staring at Tao Pai Pai's mouth moving rapidly, making a buzzing noise. It seemed like Tao Pai Pai was saying something, but Yamiru didn't care. He was too exhausted to listen, his consciousness slipping away as he drifted into a deep sleep.

"Hey, don't tell me we're actually going to kill him?" Tao Pai Pai muttered, surprised, as he held Yamiru.
