Chapter 25: CHAPTER 25
c25: Seeking Universe 7's Warriors — The Battle Approaches
"Hey!" Beerus called out, reclining lazily on a sun chair with a cup of lemon iced tea in hand. "Have you two decided who you're sending for the tournament?"
His golden eyes scanned Goku and Vegeta, both of whom looked troubled.
"We're still thinking, Lord Beerus," Goku admitted, scratching his head. "What about… Krillin? He's one of the strongest humans on Earth!"
Vegeta scoffed, arms crossed. "Tch. Don't be stupid. Krillin may be strong by Earth standards, but this is a multiverse tournament. You expect a human to stand against warriors from Universe 6?"
"Hey, that's harsh!" Goku frowned. "Krillin's gotten a lot stronger."
Vegeta snorted. "Fine. Let him fight… and lose. But don't expect me to take responsibility when we lose the Earth."
Goku let out a sigh, clearly conflicted.
Suddenly, Beerus put his cup down. "I've already decided one of the fighters. His name is Monaka. You can decide the other two."
"Monaka?" Goku's face lit up with curiosity. "Who's that? Is he strong?"
Vegeta narrowed his eyes. "Never heard of him. Is he a Saiyan?"
"No," Beerus replied smugly, "but he's the most powerful opponent I've ever faced."
"Huh? More powerful than me?" Goku blinked.
"Didn't I already tell you?" Beerus smirked. "You're the second strongest I've fought. Monaka is the first."
"Oh!! That's amazing!" Goku's face gleamed like a child discovering a new toy.
Vegeta's brow furrowed. Beerus rarely praised anyone especially not so casually.
Whis chuckled softly, sipping tea without comment.
"But wait," Goku asked, tilting his head, "how come I've never seen Monaka during our training on your planet?"
Beerus sweatdropped. "Ahem! Because he's too busy! He's a mighty warrior. Always off training on remote planets. Don't bother with that, just focus on finding the other two fighters!"
Goku shrugged. "Okay! Let's get moving then."
Vegeta folded his arms and said thoughtfully, "There are three potential candidates: Piccolo, Majin Buu, and perhaps Gohan... though Gohan hasn't trained seriously in years."
Goku nodded. "Yeah. Plus, Chichi probably wouldn't let Gohan fight. Pan was just born, so he's been focusing on family stuff."
Vegeta gave a dry chuckle. "The mighty Gohan, reduced to a househusband."
"But Buu might work!" Goku said, snapping his fingers. "I'll go find him!"
Just as Goku raised his fingers to teleport
"Wukong! You back on Earth? It's me, Dende!" a voice rang out telepathically.
"Huh?" Goku blinked. "Dende?"
The others turned to look at him.
"Oh! Dende, it's been a while!" Goku smiled. "Yeah, I'm back for a bit. What's up?"
Dende's voice came again: "It's about Luya. He's here at the Lookout. He asked me to let you know if you came back to Earth and were looking for him, you'd find him here."
"Luya?" Goku echoed. Beerus raised an eyebrow. Whis paused, curious. Vegeta's expression turned serious.
Then, with a smirk, Vegeta looked at Goku and said, "Kakarot. Weren't you just complaining about needing another strong fighter? You've fought Luya before, right? Isn't he exactly what you're looking for?"

ANALYSIS & CONTEXTUAL NOTES (Incorporated):
The inclusion of Monaka as Beerus's "strongest opponent" is accurate to the manga and anime though it's later revealed he's just a motivational trick used to drive Goku and Vegeta.
Goku referencing Krillin and Gohan's disinterest aligns with Dragon Ball Super, where Gohan avoids the early Universe 6 tournament due to family obligations and lack of training.
The addition of Majin Buu and Piccolo mirrors the actual lineup formation for the Universe 6 tournament (Buu, Piccolo, Goku, Vegeta, Monaka).
Dende's role as the lookout guardian is used properly here to relay Luya's location.
The timeline matches the pre-tournament preparation arc where Goku and Vegeta go to Earth to recruit fighters after Beerus agrees to Champa's proposal.
Goku and Beerus were stunned for a brief moment, then both their eyes lit up simultaneously as realization struck.
"That's right! Why didn't I think of that?!" they both exclaimed in unison.
"And Luya!" Goku grinned, punching his palm with enthusiasm. "Since he's not a Saiyan from Universe 6, he can totally fight for Universe 7!"
Beerus quickly hid his excitement behind a calm facade and crossed his arms. "Then it's settled. You go find him. Make sure he's in top condition."
Goku nodded eagerly. In an instant, he focused on Dende's Lookout and locked onto Tiantian's ki.
Zzzt!
He vanished with a flicker of Instant Transmission.
——
The Lookout.
A sudden gust stirred the air as Goku's figure materialized before the tower's platform.
"Yo! Tiantian!" Goku greeted with his usual cheer.
Tiantian turned, surprised. "Wukong! You're back on Earth?"
Goku laughed. "Yeah! Came to find Luya. Is he around?"
Tiantian nodded. "He's in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Still training. I should've told you earlier, sorry if I made you rush."
Goku looked toward the white-domed room and smiled. "No worries. I'll come back later. Let him focus."
And with that, he vanished once more.
——
Goku's next stop was Mount Paozu, specifically Gohan's house. There, he found Piccolo meditating near the forest.
After explaining the multiverse tournament, Piccolo shook his head.
"I'm not interested. Not this time."
"But why?" Goku asked, surprised.
Piccolo opened one eye. "Because even if I train, I won't catch up to you Saiyans in time. Gohan hasn't been keeping up with training either. And after your fusion and god forms… I'll just be a liability."
Though Goku tried to protest, Piccolo had already turned away, arms crossed in firm refusal.
"…Alright," Goku muttered. "Guess I'll have to find someone else."
That left three confirmed fighters for Universe 7:
Son Goku, Vegeta, and the mysterious Monaka Beerus hyped as stronger than even himself.
But they still needed two more.
Next, Goku teleported to Mr. Satan's mansion, where Majin Buu resided.
At first, Buu was uninterested until Satan, ever the showman, dramatically declared, "If you win, Buu, I'll give you ten puddings every day for a year!"
"YAYYYY!!! PUDDING!!! I'LL FIGHT!!" Buu roared with joy.
That made four.
With the team nearly complete, Goku returned to Capsule Corp., where Beerus and Whis awaited.
"Well done," Beerus said, sipping tea lazily. "Now that we've gathered enough people, you two—Goku and Vegeta—go train. The Sixth Universe's team won't be pushovers."
Vegeta stepped forward, his arms folded.
"Kakarot, this time I'm training alone. I'll use the gravity chamber Bulma built for me. You can do whatever you want. Train with Whis if you must. I'll still surpass you."
Goku blinked, then grinned. "Don't worry. I won't train with Whis. You can relax, I'll make sure not to surpass you too fast."
"Hmph. As if I'd let that happen." Vegeta turned with a swish of his training cape and marched off.
Goku chuckled and waved. "Alright then. Lord Beerus, Whis—I'm heading out for now!"
"Go on," Beerus said with a dismissive flick of the wrist. "But try to come back stronger. I'm not betting my Earth on a slacker."
"Got it!" Goku gave a thumbs-up.
With a bright flash, he teleported away once more.
——
Back on the terrace, Beerus stared into space for a long moment, silent.
Whis chuckled softly. "Lord Beerus… worried about the tournament?"
"Hmph. Not worried." Beerus sipped his tea. "But those guys from Universe 6… Champa always tries to one-up me. I know he's planning something. And Whis…"
"Yes?"
Beerus narrowed his eyes. "Why exactly are you training both of them now? First you focused on Vegeta, then Goku. You planning something behind my back?"
Whis closed his eyes and smiled.
"My, Lord Beerus. Whatever would give you that idea?"
Beerus stared at him for a long beat.
"...I don't trust angels," he muttered.
Whis only laughed, the sound echoing across the skies above Capsule Corp.
