Chapter 1: 01. Where It All Began.
One serene night beneath the sea, the moon shone brightly in the sky, its light mingling with the glow of the beautiful stars as they reflected against the waters. The wind howled as well, and it tugged at the sails of a mighty ship that was anchored in the distance.
The ship was huge, and it belonged to the most wanted pirate captain alive—the notorious captain of the Scarlet Heart Pirates, but she was also known as the Dragon Queen of the Sea.
Just hearing that name struck fear into the hearts of pirates and Marines alike, but there were also many who adored her.
The ship's eerie-looking Jolly Roger continued to flutter in the wind, but the dark silhouette of a woman standing at the edge of the ship paid little attention to it because her gaze was completely focused on the direction she was currently facing.
The dark clouds of the night sky soon dispersed and made way for the moon, and the pale moonlight shone upon the ship to reveal a beautiful young lady with long pink hair. She was wearing a loose pirate coat and she currently had her hands on her hips.
From a distance, anyone could have easily mistaken her to be a human, but she had a distinctive pair of long ears that clearly did not belong to people of the human race.
In simple words, she was definitely not a human; instead, she was a rabbit girl from the Usagi tribe, a tribe that was mainly made up of rabbit folks, and she happened to be the navigator and first mate of the Scarlet Heart Pirate's Captain.
Her name was Lily, and she was also the best friend of the legendary Dragon Queen of the Sea.
"I know the captain won't listen to me, but I have to try one last time," Lily muttered to herself with a sigh, and she straightened her glasses before positioning herself in a way that seemed like she was about to jump.
Then, with a single, powerful leap, she lifted herself into the night sky in search of someone on the island where their ship had been anchored.
The Scarlet Heart Pirate's ship was currently resting at the edge of an island where no pirate or marine would dare to ever approach, hence why this island was called The Forsaken Maw.
The reason for this was that the island was home to countless monstrous beasts, and even though these beasts roamed freely around the island, there was still a crazy woman who believed that this island was the best place to incubate her dragon egg. Hence why Lily was here right now.
Of course, the eccentric woman was none other than the dragon queen herself, and as such, she was afraid of no one, including the beasts on the island, and that was why she wasn't worried about the number of huge ferocious beasts living on the island.
Fortunately for her, the beasts didn't dare to approach her either, because they instinctively knew that she was an Apex predator when they first noticed her presence on the island, and judging by the look of things, they realized that the crazy female dragon simply wanted to make the island her temporary home until her egg hatched.
Thus, with that thought in mind, hundreds of the dangerous beasts inhabiting the island scurried away in search of a new place to live and call home, while the remaining beasts stayed behind but kept a safe distance from her.
As long as they didn't disturb the dragon queen, they knew that she wouldn't attack them, and so the beasts continued to live their lives in tranquility while they tried not to get in the way of the dragon queen who was currently in a cave with her egg next to her.
Lily continued to leap above the dense jungle and it didn't take a long time before she got to her destination, which happened to be the cave her best friend currently resided in.
Within minutes, Lily spotted the cave, and she leaped closer to it, but just as the island had a lot of scary-looking beasts roaming around it, it also had a lot of scary-looking caves, and a good example of one of those caves was the cave Lily was about to leap into.
Just by looking at the entrance of the cave, one could see that it looked like the mouth of a huge beast, which became frozen while it was in the middle of roaring.
Of course, the cave was made of rocks, so it was definitely not a real beast. Or maybe it was. Well, no one could ever tell unless they got really close to it.
Anyway, Lily angled herself downward as she dived towards the small opening at the top of the cave.
The hole at the top was small, but it allowed just enough moonlight to seep into the cave and brighten up the cavern floor, allowing Lily to easily see a massive crimson dragon curled around a dragon egg, providing the egg with the comfort and warmth it needed during its incubation period.
Lily landed softly against a stone ledge and straightened her clothes before looking around the cave.
If her best friend wasn't in this cave in her dragon form, then the cave could have easily contained several ships because of how spacious it was, but now that the dragon queen was inside the cave, it barely had enough room for Lily to walk around, but this didn't stop her from approaching her captain.
Under normal circumstances, if anyone but Lily were to be in the cave right now, their legs would definitely be shaking, and they might even soil themselves or have their soul slither out of their body because of how huge the dragon queen was, but since Yvonne was Lily's captain and best friend, Lily had no reason to be afraid of her big, scary dragon captain.
Focusing on what was more important, Lily straightened her glasses before opening her mouth to speak. "Captain… I'm here again." She said in a soft tone. Her words simply hung in the air and the dragon queen didn't say anything. Instead, she let out a slow exhale and her body shifted slightly, but she remained curled around her large egg, which was resting beneath her chest.
Seeing that her best friend still made no response, Lily repeated herself for a second time, and Yvonne grumbled with her head still tucked into her body.
