Aiden sat in the leather chair across from Charles Xavier's desk, his posture composed but his gaze sharp. The room was silent, save for the faint hum of the school's activity beyond the walls. Charles leaned forward slightly, his hands folded on the desk as he spoke.
"I'm glad to see you've returned, Aiden," Charles began, his tone calm yet firm. "I hope that, now you're back, things can begin to settle. You and your team won't be assigned to any new missions for the time being, but you're welcome to continue your training as usual."
Aiden nodded politely but wasted no time responding. "I appreciate you letting us keep training, but my team isn't looking to sit on the sidelines. They want in on the mission to rescue Rogue." He leaned forward, his tone more resolute. "You say you hope things go back to normal, but let's be honest—they never will. Not while a member of our team is still missing."
Charles's expression hardened slightly, his brows furrowing as he regarded Aiden. "Aiden, you know I can't allow that," he said firmly. "I can't risk the lives of an inexperienced team, especially now that we've discovered there were traitors among us. Amara and John are gone, but we have no way of knowing if Erik has other spies within the school."
Hearing this, Aiden suppressed a scoff, rolling his eyes inwardly. 'I expected as much. Guess we'll have to handle this ourselves.'
"Fine," he said aloud, his tone clipped. "But at least keep me updated. I need to know if there's any progress on finding Rogue. It's been three weeks, Professor, and I haven't seen you or your team make a single move. Are you even looking for her?"
Charles's expression softened, tinged with weariness. "Aiden," he said gently, "leave that to me. I've been scanning with Cerebro every day, but Erik knows its capabilities better than most. He's taken great lengths to shield Rogue's location and any trace of her from us. I assure you, we're doing everything we can."
The explanation did little to ease Aiden's frustration. He crossed his arms, his jaw tightening.
Charles continued, sensing his unease. "I understand your concern. I know how close the two of you were. Believe me, Aiden, I will notify you the moment we uncover anything. But for now, I need you to focus on your training and recovery."
Aiden exhaled sharply, standing from his chair. "Fine," he muttered, his tone low but resigned. "I'll stay put for now."
As he turned to leave, Charles's voice stopped him briefly.
"Aiden," he said, his tone almost fatherly. "Your leadership and determination are commendable. But remember, your team looks to you. If you act recklessly, they will follow suit. Trust me to handle this."
Aiden paused for a moment, then nodded without looking back. "I'll keep that in mind."
He stepped out of the office, the door closing softly behind him. But as he walked down the corridor, his thoughts churned. 'Trust you to handle this? Sure, Professor. But if you don't act soon… we will.'
....
As soon as Aiden stepped out of Charles's office, he found the team waiting for him in the hallway, their faces a mix of hope and concern. Noriko leaned casually against the wall, her arms crossed. "Well?" she asked, cutting straight to the point. "What did he say?"
Aiden sighed, shaking his head. "As expected, he won't let us in on the mission."
Kitty stepped forward, her expression tense. "What about Rogue?"
"He claims he's been searching for her with Cerebro but hasn't found anything. Either he's keeping us in the dark, or Magneto is smart enough to stay off their radar. Honestly, I'm leaning toward the latter."
Bobby clenched his fists, a grim determination settling over him. "Then we stick to the plan?"
"Exactly," Aiden said, his voice firm. "But remember, we keep everything a secret from the others. If word gets out, it'll only slow us down or bring unnecessary attention."
The team nodded in agreement, their shared resolve evident.
"Good," Aiden said, glancing at each of them. "Now let's get moving."
....
Later that night, Aiden and Noriko sat perched on the edge of a rooftop, their eyes trained on the dimly lit alley below. The area was notorious for being a hub for mutants—both those looking to stay under the radar and others with less-than-savory reputations.
Noriko tapped her fingers impatiently against the rooftop's edge. "It's getting late, and there's no sign of him. Are we sure he's going to show up?"
Aiden leaned back slightly, his gaze never leaving the alley. "He'll show. Maybe he's running late, but he's our best lead. Kitty's intel pointed us here for a reason. This guy fits the profile perfectly—weak, scared, and desperate. Easy to crack."
The first phase of their plan had been a risky one. Kitty had used her phasing abilities to infiltrate Charles's office and gather intel on mutants who might know something about Magneto's operations. It had been a calculated risk, but one that paid off when they discovered the name of their target—a mutant informant known on the streets as "Leech," a member of the elusive Morlocks.
Noriko squinted at the alley, her eyes scanning the shadows. "Wait… Look, that's him," she said, nodding toward a figure skulking out of the shadows. The person was hunched over, a tattered cloak obscuring their features as they moved cautiously down the narrow passageway.
Aiden grinned, his eyes narrowing with focus. "Yup, that's our guy. He's trying too hard to hide. Let's move."
Without another word, the two leaped from the rooftop, landing silently on the street below. They trailed Leech from a safe distance, their steps calculated as they closed the gap.
"Ready?" Aiden whispered to Noriko as they neared their target.
She nodded, her expression fierce. "Let's get some answers."
As they approached, Leech froze, sensing their presence. He turned slightly, his yellow slited eyes opened wide with fear
"Hello, Leech," Aiden said, his tone low and menacing as he stepped into the light and placed his hands on the teen's shoulder "We've got some questions for you."
The Leech's green face paled as he stumbled back, realizing he had nowhere to run.
