Chapter 368: Ch-368: Technique Hall (2)
"You... you all are incredibly lucky to be favored by the Sect Master. This is the first time I've ever seen not one, but five disciples granted full access to every technique in the hall," the young lady said in astonishment, still staring at them as she wondered about their backgrounds to be given such privilege.
"There were no Core Disciples with the same privilege before us?" Bai Lingxi asked curiously.
"Maybe there were before I was assigned here, but I've been working in this hall for many years and have never seen anyone with such access," the young woman replied, shrugging her shoulders.
"Anyway, take these rings. They've been created by the orb and are temporarily bound to each of you, so no one else can use them. Also, as the person in charge here, I can't misuse my authority to grant techniques to others using them," she explained indifferently. The rings were generated directly by the orb and would shatter the moment they left the hall, preventing unauthorized use.
Throom—
As soon as they wore the rings on their fingers, the walls trembled, and before their eyes, a hidden staircase appeared.
"What!" Shi Yu exclaimed, startled. She had never seen anything like this in her life. Right before her eyes, a grand staircase materialized out of thin air the moment she slipped the ring onto her finger. The others were equally surprised.
The stairs appeared to be made of extremely delicate crystals that reflected light brilliantly, creating a breathtaking and almost sacred atmosphere. Despite their fragile appearance—as if they would shatter with a single touch—they were anything but weak. In fact, they were crafted from materials capable of withstanding a full-powered attack from a Core Formation Realm cultivator with ease.
"We have three floors in this building," the young woman began to explain. "Each floor contains techniques of increasing quality and rarity. The higher the floor, the more precious the techniques. Every disciple automatically has access to the first floor. However, to reach the second floor, they must overcome a simple hurdle. As for the third floor, only the Sect Master, Supreme Elder, and Peak Masters are allowed access—unless, of course, someone receives direct permission from the Sect Master, like you all have."
"What kind of hurdle are you talking about?" Luo Li asked curiously. Though she had previously been an Inner Court disciple, she had never visited the Technique Hall or heard about any such hurdle. That was understandable—she hadn't been in the Inner Court long. In fact, she had only recently attained that status after her first dual cultivation session with Wang Ming outside the sect. Now, as a newly promoted Core Disciple, this was her first time stepping into the Technique Hall.
"The hurdle is more like a simple test," the young woman explained patiently, looking at the group in front of her. "Each floor is infused with powerful spiritual pressure, and the higher the floor, the stronger the pressure exerted on the disciple. This pressure forces disciples to use their own spiritual energy to resist it. That's why they can't remain on the upper floors for too long. It also prevents disciples who've received permission but lack the necessary cultivation from accessing higher floors—they simply can't withstand the pressure and are unable to climb."
Wang Ming and the others nodded in understanding. It made sense—learning a technique without the required cultivation could be dangerous. For example, his Heavenly Sword Art required a large amount of spiritual energy; if someone with insufficient cultivation tried to use it, they might cripple themselves or even self-destruct.
With that, Wang Ming, Bai Lingxi, Shi Yu, Luo Li, and Min Li walked toward the staircase. As soon as they stepped onto it, they felt a faint spiritual pressure pressing down on them.
"So this is what she was talking about," Min Li muttered. The pressure was negligible at first, so it didn't affect them. They continued climbing, feeling the spiritual pressure steadily intensify with each step.
They raised their eyebrows when they saw a door similar to the one at the entrance of the building. It scanned their badges and, more importantly, the rings on their fingers. After the light dimmed, the door opened with a soft creak.
"Damn."
"Heavens!"
The girls exclaimed in shock, and even Wang Ming was left speechless by the sheer number of techniques inside the room. The space was massive, with hundreds of shelves—each filled with scrolls containing various techniques.
Even Min Li, whose family possessed a significant collection of techniques, found it hard to compare with the vast number in front of her. There were at least tens of thousands of techniques stored on just this floor alone, and also she did not forget about the other two floors which also contained techniques which were of higher rank and rarer than the ones present on this floor.
"Where are the Core Disciples? I only see Inner Court disciples here," Shi Yu said, frowning. There were close to a hundred disciples wearing Inner Court robes, but not a single Core Disciple was in sight.
"These are the lowest-ranked techniques. Of course, Core Disciples wouldn't waste their time here. They must be on the higher floors," Bai Lingxi commented nonchalantly.
"Hmm, the pressure on this floor is already quite intense. Outer Court disciples with weak cultivation wouldn't even last a minute here," Luo Li added, pointing to a few Inner Court disciples drenched in sweat, struggling to resist the pressure while reading the scrolls with on of their knees on the floor, only the ones who had just recently arrived in the floor were doing better but their frowns and sweat forming on their faces signaled they were starting to feel the pressure. They were clearly using their spiritual energy constantly just to stay upright.
"Anyway, let's head upstairs," Wang Ming said, and the others nodded in agreement. He had already examined the scrolls using his Soul Eyes, which displayed their details from a distance—all of them were low-ranked techniques.
