Chapter 69: DSMW [69]
After Aisha and Luca's duel concluded, the remaining first-year practical tests wrapped up with no other particularly exciting moments, ending on a rather uneventful note.
Which, to be fair, was to be expected. A duel test that intense and over-the-top was hardly normal.
These were just weekly assessments—there was no need to go all out like that.
Then again, some students had another thought:
Go all out?
Even if they did put their lives on the line, there was no way they could have produced a duel of that caliber.
By this point, even those students who were previously unwilling to acknowledge it had to admit: Aisha Yuna Carlos had become incredibly strong. Especially after today's battle, the most glaring weakness in Aisha's deck—that pile of Non-Effect/Normal low-level monsters—had undergone a complete transformation.
The Three Knights, the Summoned Skull, and most notably, that Arcana Knight Joker with an Attack higher than Blue-Eyes White Dragon's—It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that within the entire first-year class, Aisha Yuna Carlos now had no rivals left.
No one understood this better than Miss Erin, who kept detailed records of every student's abilities.
As for Miss Erin's evaluation of this practical test:
Although Luca Slint had no prior recorded duels within Fusion Academy, based on the strength Aisha had displayed in this match, Miss Erin decided to award her a full 100 credits—essentially equivalent to handing her a free B-rank Spell Card.
Of course, that Arcana Knight Joker more than deserved a reward of that scale.
"See? I told you. As long as you keep working hard, rare cards will come your way!"
With her 100 credits in hand, Aisha rushed to the Fusion Academy library under Miles's urging. She opened the Magic Directory and selected the B-rank Spell [Monster Reborn] for crafting.
If it were still Aisha's old low-tier deck, [Monster Reborn] wouldn't have made much of a difference.
But things were different now. With the Poker Three Knights inherited from the Pharaoh, this single [Monster Reborn] could massively increase her deck's tactical flexibility in duels.
…
After School—
Every Friday, first-years at Fusion Academy only had practical classes. Once those were over, school was officially done for the day.
And once school ended, even at a boarding academy, it was completely free time.
Whether joining club activities, hanging out in the shopping district outside the academy, or—for the truly dedicated—grabbing a friend for a casual duel right after the test, the school placed no restrictions.
Life at a Duel Academy in another world wasn't all that different from the typical school life Miles was familiar with, aside from the focus on card games.
That included the academic side of things.
Don't think for a second that just because it's a Duel Academy, they didn't have to study cultural subjects.
In fact, if your grades in academic courses were too low, your credits would be docked accordingly.
In that regard, Aisha gave Miles no cause for concern.
Though she often seemed airheaded and lacking in guile, and couldn't summon particularly strong monsters, at least her academic grades were solid.
Everyone had to have at least one strength, right? Just being cute wasn't enough.
"Huff, huff, huff! What the heck is even in this thing?"
Inside the first-year girls' dormitory, Kevin gritted his teeth in frustration as he struggled to drag Luca's enormous suitcase up the stairs.
While Luca could just barely manage to drag the case along flat ground thanks to its wheels, carrying this monstrosity up a staircase was a task far beyond either her or Aisha's capabilities.
For labor-intensive chores like this—moving heavy objects, for example—even in the girls' dorm, Miss Lily, the first-year dorm supervisor, would occasionally allow trustworthy male students to help out.
And when it came to trustworthiness among all Fusion Academy's male students, none could surpass Kevin Seth, the "guy who hates women the most."
Miss Lily had barely hesitated before giving a simple green light: "Oh, let Kevin help with the luggage? No problem. Up you go."
As Aisha's room was the last one at the end of the hall on the third floor, Kevin had really drawn the short straw for this grunt work.
"These are all things a girl absolutely needs, Kevin. Of course, you wouldn't understand."
Inside the room, Luca lovingly stroked her cherished suitcase, looking thoroughly satisfied.
Without all these belongings, she wouldn't feel secure no matter where she stayed.
After hauling the suitcase all the way to the dorm room, Kevin gave the place a quick glance.
Visibly neat and tidy, with all daily necessities arranged in perfect order. The wardrobe and desk surfaces were spotless.
This was all thanks to Aisha's usual disciplined living habits.
Before going to bed, if there was even a hint of clutter, Aisha would meticulously tidy it up. Only after achieving a perfectly clean environment would she sleep peacefully, never leaving any fatigue or stress to carry over to the next day.
'Not a bad room at all. Guess I should tidy up too.'
Zip—!
The sound of the suitcase being unzipped was quickly followed by a loud...
Boom—!
"What just exploded?!"
Who would have guessed—it was the suitcase that exploded.
Miles had assumed that such a massive suitcase would easily have room to spare for a few daily necessities.
But unexpectedly, Luca's suitcase had been operating at the brink of its capacity for who knows how long.
And in that moment, it had finally reached its breaking point.
"Huh?"
Kevin felt something soft land on his head, carrying a faint scent of laundry detergent.
He grabbed it and took a look—a pair of pink strawberry-print panties.
At the same time, various styles of underwear—cute ones, sexy ones, even a few that were basically just strings—were now hanging from every corner of the room thanks to the explosion.
"Don't look!"
Blushing furiously, Luca snatched the panties from Kevin's hand, delivered a follow-up kick, and promptly sent him flying out of the room. Not a trace of gratitude for Kevin's earlier help to be found.
"Don't stay in a girl's room like that! I need to start unpacking!"
"Guess I'll head out for a bit, too. Take your time, Luca. I'll be back later."
Aisha also made an embarrassed exit.
Though both of them were girls, there really wasn't any need to linger. Aisha definitely didn't want Miles seeing the room covered in Luca's provocative underwear.
Not that Miles himself had any interest in such things.
What did interest him, however, was what else might be hidden inside Luca's colossal suitcase besides underwear.
For example, the still-missing Millennium Ring... Could it be concealed under all that lingerie as camouflage, smuggled right into the dorm room?
After all, that thing was huge and covered in spikes. Where else could Luca have possibly hidden it?
