Chapter 70: DSMW [70]
Using the excuse of needing the restroom, Aisha lingered in the dorm room for a while, but Miles found no trace of the Millennium Ring hidden among all that junk and had to give up for now.
Well, since they were living together now, there'd be more opportunities later.
Hiding the truth, playing mind games, engaging in battles of wits—Miles had never been afraid of any of that.
What Miles didn't know was that each Millennium Item had its own unique effect.
Unlike the Millennium Puzzle, which had to exist in a physical form, one of the Millennium Ring's abilities was to fully merge with its holder's body and soul. Because of this, even if the holder were to throw the Millennium Ring away, it could still return to them at any time.
Luca, making full use of this trait, didn't even need to carry the Millennium Ring on her person, avoiding unnecessary risks entirely.
She could casually toss it into some random corner and summon it back whenever she wanted to use it, then discard it again once she was done.
Flawless.
Even while sharing a room with Aisha Carlos, there was no risk of the Millennium Ring being exposed.
Plus, with another soul of herself existing within the Millennium Ring, she could calmly wait for the right moment.
Since things were settled, Luca figured she might as well enjoy her Academy life for a while.
She only needed to take one evening each week to check whether her Dark Duelists were doing their jobs and diligently hunting souls for the Sacred Beasts.
That raised the question: aside from hosting a soul, what special power did the Millennium Puzzle have?
So far, Miles hadn't unlocked a single one.
Leaving the room and deciding not to disturb Luca any further, Aisha just hoped she would hurry up and clean that mess, so the dorm could return to a tidy state.
Otherwise, she might go crazy—in more ways than one.
"Eh? Kevin, you're still here?"
Leaving the first-year girls' dormitory building, Aisha was surprised to find that Kevin, who had been kicked out by Luca, was still hanging around.
"Yeah, I've been waiting for you."
"Why are you even waiting for me?!"
Ever since the Three Knights had successfully fused, Miles's troubles had vanished like smoke.
But Aisha's troubles over the past few days stayed completely unresolved.
In fact, after today's duel, Kevin had gotten even worse, becoming more convinced than ever that she was his destined rival. Having one destiny-linked Millennium Item holder around was already troublesome enough—did this self-proclaimed rival really need to pile on too?
"I'm going to the library to find Irena-senpai and read. Stop following me, Kevin!"
Normally, it would be Ren-chan who chased Kevin off for her.
However, today, Ren had been called away to help the Magic Club with researching their latest transformation potion formula, and couldn't stand guard over Aisha.
"I'm warning you, Kevin! If you keep pestering me, Irena-senpai will go tell Kaima-senpai on you!"
Left with no choice, Aisha had to invoke her second line of defense: Irena, who was very close to Kaima Seth.
At the mention of his sister, Kevin's expression showed a flicker of fear, though it lasted only an instant before he quickly regained his composure.
"It's not that I'm waiting for you, Aisha. Someone else was looking for you, so I stayed here."
"Who?"
Aisha eyed him suspiciously.
"That would be me, Miss Aisha Carlos."
A calm, steady baritone voice rang out. Standing beside Kevin was a man wearing gold-rimmed glasses, giving off a refined yet confident first impression.
"I believe this is our first time meeting. Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Rovik Braun, second year."
"Rovik Braun..."
The name Rovik meant nothing to Aisha, but she had heard of the Braun family.
If she remembered correctly, the Braun family owned one of the country's most famous toy manufacturing businesses. They were also one of the most well-known examples of industrial magnates transitioning into regional nobility.
"N-Nice to meet you, Rovik-senpai."
What business did a scion of such a powerful family have with her? Completely clueless, Aisha couldn't help feeling nervous.
Seeing how flustered Aisha looked, like a startled little hamster, Rovik gave a wry smile and did his best to appear more gentle.
After all, Rovik was fully aware that Irena described him as the kind of guy who, once serious, would show no mercy to anyone.
"I heard that you haven't joined any clubs yet, Miss Aisha. I wanted to invite you to come visit our club and take a look. Would you be interested?"
'Phew… so this is about a club.'
Aisha let out a long sigh of relief.
For a moment there, she thought the Braun family had come looking to discuss business deals with the Carlos family or something.
At Fusion Academy, where noble scions gathered, plenty of families used student networks to support each other. But for now, that kind of heavy responsibility was far beyond Aisha.
As for clubs, that she could understand.
Ever since Miles's arrival and her rise to prominence in practical duels, this once-unknown bottom-tier girl had started receiving quite a few olive branches from duel-related clubs.
At Fusion Academy, aside from regular sports and culture clubs, the most numerous and distinctive were the Duelist Clubs.
As the name implies, these were clubs focused on researching Duel Monsters cards.
Some of the more famous Duelist Clubs included:
The Moe Club, dedicated to collecting cute monsters, a favorite among the girls.
The Cyber Dragon Enthusiasts Association, focused on exploring how Cyber Dragons struggle to survive.
And of course, the Dragon Lovers Organization, whose motto was "Love no one but Dragons."
There were many clubs focused on improving individual duelist strength, too—which explained why Aisha, after making a name for herself, was now getting so many invites.
Especially after today's battle, she must seem even more desirable in the eyes of all the clubs.
"Sorry, Rovik-senpai. I don't plan on joining any clubs for now."
"I understand. Irena mentioned it before. Miss Aisha, you prefer spending your time in the library with her over joining clubs."
"Spending time with her... Is that how it sounds? I just go to the library to read!"
That narcissistic Gray Witch loved exaggerating her own charm whenever she bragged about herself.
Rovik added, "But this time, I'm only inviting you to visit our club, not asking you to join. After today's duel, I think you'll find our club quite interesting."
"Really? Rovik-senpai, what club are you from?"
"The High-Level Spirit Research Society."
The High-Level Spirit Research Society. A club dedicated to studying extremely high-level Duel Monsters.
Their core belief: Star Levels represent a Duel Monster's power and signify a Duel Spirit's mystery factor.
In this club, even Level 8 monsters like Blue-Eyes White Dragon didn't qualify as "High-Level."
Only Level 9 and above monsters were considered worthy of their research.
Like, for example, the Arcana Knight Joker that Aisha had just Fusion Summoned today.
Miles said, "I'm very interested!"
Without question, Aisha nodded, "Well then, I'm very interested too!"
