Chapter 71: DSMW [71]
In a person's life, what they lack the most is often what they crave the most.
For Miles, the High-Level Spirit Research Society was nothing short of a sanctuary, filling the void in his soul. A place to heal the regret of never having a high-level Duel career, all because Aisha could only summon low-level monsters.
"It's rare to see you this happy, Mr.Miles. That's great!"
Simple-minded as always, Aisha felt even happier than when she herself was happy, just seeing Miles so pleased.
"Level 9 monsters... even higher than my brother's Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Those must be super rare."
Unexpectedly, Kevin Seth, number one in first-year credit rankings and, like Aisha, part of the "Go-Home Club" with no club affiliations, had tagged along with interest.
Fusion Academy's literary and duelist clubs were housed in a dedicated four-story European-style building, with each room representing a different club.
The High-Level Spirit Research Society was located at the very end of the top-floor corridor.
Rooms like that naturally had an air of mystery.
Though to be more practical, the truth was simply that low-popularity clubs with too few members got assigned to out-of-the-way rooms.
Just like their neighbors next door: the Self-Destruct Button Activation Group... which, judging by the name, didn't sound like it had many members either.
"Weird. Aren't high-level monsters supposed to be popular?" Kevin wondered aloud.
You'd think that powerful, high-level monsters would be the dream of most duelists.
That this club was so unpopular came as a real surprise.
"It's not that we lack popularity... It's mostly our president. Her personality is just way too eccentric."
Rovik forced a thoroughly helpless smile and slowly pushed open the clubroom door.
"Ohohoho! Rovik, you're finally back! Did you bring them?!"
Before anyone even stepped inside, an overly enthusiastic voice boomed from within.
"President! I warned you not to scare our guest once I brought them!"
Rovik shot a reproachful glare at the girl—apparently the club president.
She had tanned, bronze-colored skin and a tall, curvy figure. Especially her chest, which far surpassed Aisha's by a hundredfold, radiating exotic, healthy charm.
"I was just too excited! Couldn't help myself. Lemme see her cards—no, wait, let me see the person first!"
The dark-skinned president turned her gaze to the doorway, instantly recognizing the short-haired, white-haired girl who had Fusion Summoned Arcana Knight Joker in today's duel: Aisha Carlos.
Without another word, she pounced and wrapped Aisha in a big hug.
Before Aisha could react, her little head was already deeply buried in that overwhelming softness that made her question her very existence.
It was like…Top-grade black truffle face wash?
In his spiritual form, Miles couldn't share in the sensation. Just before the dark-skinned president pounced on Aisha, all he managed to think was "Holy crap, that's huge," before completely losing his field of vision.
"Amazing! To think someone this young could Fusion Summon something like Arcana Knight Joker! Truly exciting, Miss Aisha Carlos!"
"Mmphh mmph mmph!"
Aisha tried to say something, but with her head buried that deep, no words could get through.
"President!"
With an angry shout, Rovik grabbed the president by her collar and yanked her off.
"Puhah!"
Finally ejecting from that suffocating embrace, Aisha gasped for air like she was coming back to life.
"Women really are dangerous..."
Watching what almost turned into a smothering fatality right before his eyes, Kevin once again strengthened his bizarre beliefs.
"Sorry about that, Miss Aisha. This is what I meant earlier... our president really does have a strange personality."
"You can call me President Nia! Or just Nia is fine too."
Nia spread her slender, tanned arms wide, gesturing at the room with a welcoming smile.
"Welcome to the High-Level Spirit Research Society! Feel free to look around as much as you like, Miss Aisha. No need to be shy."
"Th-thank you..."
Aisha nodded awkwardly, unsure if she should act happy or serious at a time like this.
"What about me? Can't I look around, too?" Kevin asked.
"Who even are you?" Compared to her warmth toward Aisha, Nia was noticeably colder toward Kevin.
Rovik stepped in to explain, "This is Kevin Seth, currently ranked first among first-years in credit points. His older brother is Kaima Seth—I'm sure you know him."
"Ohhh! Kaima's little brother?" Nia stroked her chin and gave Kevin an appraising look. "Tell me, what's the strongest monster in your deck right now?"
"Red-Eyes Black Dragon!"
No matter when the topic came up, Kevin always answered with pride when talking about his ace monster.
"A Level 7 Red-Eyes, huh... Not bad, but..."
Nia formed an X with her index fingers in front of her ample chest.
"Nope! You don't qualify for membership. Here, you need at least one Level 9 monster card just to join the High-Level Spirit Research Society."
"Who said I wanted to join?! Besides, your entry requirements are way too strict!"
For first-years at Fusion Academy, how many could even meet that kind of requirement?
"That's why it's just me and the president in this club."
Rovik sighed, revealing the truth.
As vice president, he had suggested lowering the threshold more than once, but each time, he was firmly rejected.
"That's not high at all."
While Rovik wasn't paying attention, Nia had once again sidled up next to Aisha. This time, she only poked Aisha's springy cheek with a finger instead of hugging her.
"Look at our Miss Aisha Carlos here. She meets the requirement perfectly. So, interested in joining?"
"President Nia, I'm just here to look around for now. I don't plan on joining any clubs yet."
Her purpose was clear. In fact, under Miles's constant urging, Aisha had already begun observing the High-Level Spirit Research Society closely.
Unlike most clubs, whose walls were decorated with scrolls or artwork, this room had glass frames hanging on every wall.
Each exquisite frame displayed a Monster Card.
The lowest Level was at least 9 Stars, with even some 10-Star monsters like [Ultimate Obedient Fiend], and 11-Star ones like [Gate Guardian].
"Where did they even get so many high-level Monster Cards?" Miles wondered.
And the moment he stepped inside, he sensed a presence... one strikingly similar to the Egyptian God Cards, perhaps even higher in level than them—a divine (or something like it) aura.
