Chapter 161 Mapple operation on the lost city
When the Mapple corporation showed their interest on the lost city and bought all the incursion tickets, the Cryptid hunting agency made it seem as a good thing for the city. After all, killing cryptids was the very reason why the agency was founded and they took it as a much needed relief to the ever busy hunters.
No one could have anticipated the economic effects it would have on the hunters or in the city nor the ensuing hatred towards the corporation. The same Mapple corporation employees that used to be treated with the utmost respect wherever they went, were now treated as though they carried some sort of infectious disease.
All they wanted now was to go back to their respective cities and enjoy the perks of being part of the most important corporation world wide like they used to.
"Two beers. Hey! I said two beers!" A young ascended from the security division insisted, but the waitress kept ignoring him. Having money was important, but it was no use when no one was willing to provide their service to anyone wearing the Mapple corporation uniform. "See? This is what I'm telling you, I hate this city."
"Calm down, they're just making us wait a little longer to get on our nerves. If you keep acting like that you're only giving them what they want." A female employee also from the security division tried to calm her companion down.
The third person sitting on the table at the restaurant remained silent. He was the only one among them who belonged to the combat division. He was the only one among them who knew the events that transpired on the lost city that day, the only one who saw Jon Hunter in combat.

"Why did I have to come here too? I'm not even a fighter!" Seiren complained as he walked across the streets of the lost city with a small party.
"Because I would feel lonely without you," Jon winked an eye at her. "plus, you were there when I 'borrowed' this book. You're like my lucky charm."
"I don't think you know the meaning of that word." She replied unamused by his playfulness and Jon knew exactly what she meant. It didn't sit well with her to steal Uriel's property and she was deeply troubled by this.
"The higher ups insisted on bringing a witness along and you're the only one I trust." He said changing the subject.
"It's all the same, you could have brought anyone with you and then I would have been able to confirm whether or not they're telling the truth in their reports."
"Yeah, but... there's not many people as 'qualified' as you." Jon blatantly stared at her generous cleavage.
"You don't know the meaning of that word either." She sighed. Seiren wasn't pleased with her orders as accompanying a holy rank hunter on an incursion was a dangerous task and his flirty attitude didn't make things any better.
The holy rank was known as the highest rank any human had achieved so far. This meant that Jon, as a holy rank hunter, ought to be strong enough to protect everyone in most situations, but unfortunately, that also meant he emitted an incredibly powerful energy signature that would caught the attention of even stronger cryptids.
This was the reason why the Mapple corporation bought all the incursion tickets, to make sure no hunter would be present in the lost city when Jon entered the city. Stay updated via My Virtual Library Empire
Although it was true that most cryptids were drawn to the alluring amount of energy emitted by the holy rank hunter, most of them knew better than to attack him.
Instead, they remained hidden in their foul nests, in the sewers, in the nooks and crannies of the buildings because they knew it was a meal too large for them and this made their way to the San Fernando cathedral much faster than any other hunting party so far.
"This place looks the same as the last time I visited, I wonder if cryptids avoid it for some reason." Jon muttered as he crossed the tall doors.
"Should we investigate this place, Sir?" One of the ascended from the combat division in the party asked.
"There's no need for that. Thanks to this book I figured out most of what's going on here. This place was built to 'spread the gospel' among the natives, but that was only a facade. This place is actually a vault."
"It doesn't look so safe." Seiren said as she scanned the place. It wasn't built in concrete nor was it reinforced with alloy. "Any rank cryptid could destroy this walls with ease."
"Yes... but have they? There's something off. I can feel it, there's a strong cryptid in the basement." Jon pointed out. "You guys stay here while I go have some fun."
Jon Hunter, the original hunter, headed to the underground cellar and then he saw it, David Crockett's statue.
"There you are buddy! I see you're in good company too." Jon smiled at the sculpture of the beautiful lady standing by his side. Her body proportions were a bit on the skinny side for Jon's taste, but somehow, he felt drawn towards it.
But that wasn't the only statue. Accompanying the naked lady and the hero of the Alamo, there stood the statue depicting a young man dressed in modern clothes, its eyes enthralled by the sight of the unreachable beauty in front of him. It was a statue that wasn't there back when Uriel discovered that chamber.
The sounds that came out of that chamber and the events that transpired when the horror rank cryptid haunting the cathedral finally revealed itself would forever haunt those present. In the end, Jon Hunter emerged victorious carrying a ceremonial tomahawk seemingly made of stone, but under the stony surface the unmistakable shine of orichalcum was revealed.
"Got one, two more to go." He said with a gleeful smirk, showing the terrified Seiren the relic he just obtained.
