Chapter 162 A short respite

The next couple days after Uriel came back from his incursion were the closest thing to a vacation he ever experienced. He had no urgent matters to take care of, no homework to get done, no studying to do, nothing.

He would have loved to spend some time with his friends but Medusa and Sam weren't replying to his messages and the only thing Luna did was to ask him for help on her research, something he wasn't too keen on.

Despite living in the same building she rarely left her room to grab something to eat. Her room was a complete mess, there were many hand drawn pictures and crumpled papers all over the place. As if that wasn't enough, even the walls were upholstered with strange notes connected to each other with threads.

After the many encounters with cryptids she experienced, her theory was more or less proven, but she needed much more evidence before presenting it to the scientific community. Although creating a bestiary seemed like an easy task, something like that couldn't be further from the truth.

Cryptids were mysterious creatures and they possessed all sorts of abilities that defied logic, but the one characteristic that made them almost impossible to study was their field of disruption. Because of this, the army, the Cryptid hunting agency and even the government struggled to acquire reliable information about cryptids and many scientist focused all of their efforts in providing it.

However, up to that point no one had thought of cryptids being related to the supernatural creatures mentioned in old tales.

The army would face cryptids with their high tech weapons, hunters usually relied more on their traits and the big corporations had the funds to employ both methods but so far, no one thought that cryptids could have weak spots or deadly allergies.

But Luna had a certain insight none of them possessed and it allowed her to find such weaknesses by identifying modern day cryptids after comparing them to old tales about supernatural creatures. Nevertheless, there were still many holes in her theory, the most important being that there wasn't any evidence of people from the old times defeating any cryptids.

"I'm stuck." Luna said and puffed out her cheeks after crumpling yet another piece of paper and throwing it on the floor. She needed to gather more data, but Uriel kept refusing to break the curfew again.

Uriel woke late as was his custom and the first thing he did was to turn on the TV and check the news channels. He still feared someone from Amy's party would talk more than they should and put him in an awkward situation. If word got out that an ascended killed an entity cryptid by himself the government would most likely try to contact him just like they did to his friends.

"The strange phenomenon that was taking place in our city that caused floods an estimated loss of 1.5m credits finally stopped. Experts assure it is not related to cryptids or human traits in any form and it was simply a weather oddity. Meanwhile, the government officials are celebrating the end of the drought that had been haunting our water reservoirs for three years in a row..."

"Come with me to the library." Luna asked as soon as she exited her room. Her silvery hair was disheveled and there were bags under her eyes, she was still wearing her pajama and held Mister Wabbit on her arms.

"Not now, I'm busy." Said Uriel without taking his eyes from the TV in the livingroom.

"Uhm... But... I need help. I don't know how to take the bus."

"I already helped enough. Are you not satisfied with the data I sent you about eclipses? Besides, there's only a couple days left until college starts again."

"But I'm stuck now."

"Why don't you take the freeloader with you? I bet she would be happy to go with you."

"I uhm... already tried asking her, but she said she can't come today."

"Why not? Is freeloading that difficult?" Uriel voiced out loud enough so Nika could hear him.

"Hey! I'm right here!" Nika replied offended.

"I know." Uriel said with a smug. Experience more on My Virtual Library Empire

"For your information, I'll go hunting today." She said with a coffee mug in one hand and a toast in the other. She was wearing high heels, black cloth pants, a white blouse and a fancy black jacket on top of it all making her look like a serious businesswoman. "Job hunting." She added when she noticed the awkward look both Luna and Uriel gave her.

"Wow!" Uriel gasped in amazement.

"I know I look beautiful but it's not something to be so shocked."

"Uh? I'm just surprised you're actually wearing pants."

"Luna, tell him to stop bullying me." Nika pouted, though Luna remained unfazed by her 'cute' display.

"If you don't want people making fun of you, then maybe you should start wearing pants when you're home."

All Uriel wanted was to have a calm morning and mind his own business, but something like that was asking too much from his roommates. Although Nika could be considered as a top class beauty, she was also a noisy and carefree person. Luna, on the other hand, seemed to be a shy girl, but she had no regards for other people's needs or wants.

"Nika, go with Luna please. I don't want to go to college until the second semester starts."

"I can't believe this, you're always bullying me and calling me a freeloader, and now that I want to look for a job you ask me to drop everything and go with Luna!"

"Uhm... Please?" Luna said taking full advantage of her cuteness and Nika's heart was immediately melted.

"Awww, I can't say no to that face." Nika said and she went out with Luna, finally giving Uriel the much desired peace of mind.

The last thing he needed now was to waste his last days of vacation going to college, especially taking into consideration that during the second semester students were classified according to their ranks and he would be forced to take courses unrelated to their career choice.
