Chapter 163 The new tutor
It was finally the first day of the second semester, the day where all the students from all over the city gathered early in the morning in excitement to meet with their friends and catch up with their lives.
It was a joyful occasion for most of them as they were among the few privilege citizens allowed to study in such dangerous times, though that wasn't Uriel's case as he was running late as usual.
While it wasn't uncommon for Uriel to oversleep, Luna's case was different. The reason why she couldn't wake up in time was because she had been busy with her research until late night. Explore stories on My Virtual Library Empire
"We're going to be late, hurry up!" Uriel scolded Luna who moved at turtle speed.
"I can't leave Mr. Wabbit behind." She replied as she headed back to her room to retrieve her beloved horned rabbit plushie.
"Where is that freeloader? Why didn't she wake us up?" Uriel said as he struggled to put on his shoes.
"Uhm..." Luna tried to speak but she was cut short when Uriel pulled her outside by the hand, dragging her like a kite to the bus stop.
All the first year students were supposed to participate in an explanatory meeting, but unfortunately for Uriel it was too late for that and by the time they arrived it had already ended. Neither Luna nor he knew where they were supposed to go, which put them in an awkward situation.
"Mister Scofield!" Uriel shouted as he caught a glimpse of his friend the librarian.
"Good morning young bookworm, I was expecting to see you at the freshmen meeting."
"Well," Uriel scratched the back of his head while directing a murderous glare at Luna. "I was late."
"I see... so you didn't get to choose your tutor." Mister Scofield nodded knowingly. "There's a new professor that became quite popular, too bad you didn't get here in time or else you might have been able to choose her."
Uriel was beyond mortified. The worst thing that could happen to a student was to miss the chance to pick his tutor professor because that could have a huge impact on their future careers. He also wondered who could possibly be so important in their field to become popular on their first day and he inwardly cursed Nika who didn't wake him up like he asked her to the day before.
"Now, don't waste any more time and head to the gym where the first year students are gathered." Mister Scofield hurried them, then he continued on his way to the library.
Once they arrived at the gym Uriel noticed that students were crowding at different parts of the gym, probably meeting their tutors for the first time and taking the time to know each other.
"We made it in time." He sighed in relief, though he didn't know what to do next.
"Hey, you! let go of my sister!" Heavenly sword Cassandra yelled. Without even realizing it, Uriel had been holding Luna's hand all morning.
"Uhm... no." Luna said as she forcefully grasped on to Uriel's hand.
"Luna!? You can't hang with that jerk anymore, how many times do I need to repeat myself until you finally get it in your head?" Cassandra scolded her little sister.
"You two, the ascended are over there. Sword, go back to class." A man in a business suit and small glasses Uriel recognized as professor Lamar instructed them.
Luna seemingly ignored both her sister and the professor and pulled Uriel towards a particular group in the ascended section of the gym.
"Where are you taking me? We don't have a tutor yet."
"We do." Was all she said as she continued pulling Uriel until they arrived. "I tried to tell you..."
At that moment, the sight of a person left Uriel in a daze. It was the last person he thought he would encounter in those circumstances.
"Freeloader!? err.. I mean, Nika?" Uriel quickly corrected himself as the one standing in front of the students in that class was no other than Nika Garcia.
"It's professor Nika," She giggled in her usual carefree attitude. "Didn't Luna tell you?"
Uriel glared daggers at Luna who, as always, remained unfazed.
"Why are you here?"
"Isn't that obvious? I'm your tutor." She proudly replied. The day she accompanied Luna to college she bumped into an acquaintance of her that recommended Nika and landed her a job in college. In a sense, it was thanks to Uriel asking her to accompany Luna that she was able to become a teacher.
"No way! I'm going to ask for someone else."
"I'm the most popular freshman professor at the moment and I went through a lot of trouble to save you a spot. Do you know how many students begged me to become their tutor and you thank me like this."
"Do you even have the credentials to become a professor!?" Uriel wondered whether she was popular because of her qualifications or her generous cleavage.
"How can you be so disrespectful towards professor Nika?"
"Yeah! Show some respect!"
Two male students erupted in anger towards Uriel and told him off in hopes of scoring some brownie points, wich only added up to his auapicions thatsomething that the latter was the truth.
"Calm down guys, you're all classmates now." Nika said softly and both students immediately fell silent. "If you truly want to change tutors we can arrange that, but your friends are all in my class."
Uriel then realized his mistake. After all, he had always respected his teachers and, like it or not, she was a professor now and she even went as far as saving a spot for Sam and Medusa even though they had yet to show up.
"I apologize professor Nika." Uriel said respectfully.
"Alright students, let's start. I'm professor Nika Garcia and I'm a combat instructor. Even though I'm young, my credentials as the former head of security of the Mapple corporation should be enough for you. As for my body measurements... those are a secret." She finished her words with a mischievous wink addressed at Uriel.
